SaBrE_UK 0 Posted June 11, 2009 Personally I like this thread, it's rather amusing. Also, I agree with the addon idea about a barrel with 'Codemasters' written on it!
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted June 11, 2009 Would absolutely love to see the next patch changelog: Added: "Red exploding barrel"
usmc123 1 Posted June 11, 2009 why dont you stop your whining, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen, girly man.You just proved his point. Kudos.
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted June 11, 2009 Why stop at just red exploding barrels? I reckon there should be an addon with a variety of red exploding things. This is ArmA 2: we could have red exploding cows!
monty67t 0 Posted June 11, 2009 I would accept exploding red barrels if I could get OFP2's far superior AI along with it.
rekrul 7 Posted June 11, 2009 Why stop at just red exploding barrels? I reckon there should be an addon with a variety of red exploding things. This is ArmA 2: we could have red exploding cows! And the swineflu!!
MachineMadness 0 Posted June 11, 2009 Correct me if I'm wrong, but shooting at barrels IRL wont do anything except make a few holes in an expensive barrel of black gold.
Daniel 0 Posted June 11, 2009 I always found mixing the "death" of a barrel with a spawning hand grenade and setvelocity command worked quite nicely in ArmA. :) You could then have them explode in midair and completely disappear easily enough too, then randomise it all. Endless fun!
Maddmatt 1 Posted June 11, 2009 I would accept exploding red barrels if I could get OFP2's far superior AI along with it. With some scripting we can make the AI run towards you and then side-strafe in the open while shooting at you from 10 metres away.
Richard Bruce Cheney 10 Posted June 11, 2009 According to Mr. Lenton, "The latest in-game visual pass has added another layer of ambient detail that takes us to the level of our original target visuals." I think that we are a few years away from those target renders in terms of pure GPU speed. Maybe codemasters includes a futuristic GPU with every OFP2 purchase? OR is he just referring to exploding barrels?
Baz 0 Posted June 11, 2009 The spark created by the bullet would set the contents spilling out on fire... Thus, your exploding barrel. It makes a hole, contents spill out... A spark is created and boom or it catches on fire.
lapa 1 Posted June 12, 2009 The spark created by the bullet would set the contents spilling out on fire... Thus, your exploding barrel. It makes a hole, contents spill out... A spark is created and boom or it catches on fire. Doesn't really happen. Under normal conditions a normal bullet doesn't create a spark that would ignite the gasoline. However, as shown by a Mythbusters episode (:p), a tracer round fired from a great enough distance so that the round can ignite with air friction may cause the gasoline to catch fire on impact. Then, if the gasoline doesn't spill out too fast, the barrel may indeed blow up. Not too probable though.
Baz 0 Posted June 12, 2009 I'm a firefighter, so I speaking merely on principle of there being a spark involved to cause ignition of a flammable liquid. Combustible liquids such as Diesel no such thing would happen.
SnR 1 Posted June 12, 2009 If their are exploding Barrels im sure Bigfoot has a stash, and follows all safety requirements in there storage.
Steakslim 1 Posted June 12, 2009 I feel that it is a very important feature that many people have been looking over, and I must insist that I bring this out in the open by the complete lack of exploding civilians wearing red shirts. Truly the inclusion of such an addition to the game would create a great effect and further push the boundaries of realism that ArmA2 wishes to achieve. Flanker15 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Arma did have exploding gas tanks (big long ones). You could wipe out entire squads by setting one off near them (I TK'd about 20 people in mp when I hit one accidently!).
Maddmatt 1 Posted June 12, 2009 Arma did have exploding gas tanks (big long ones). You could wipe out entire squads by setting one off near them (I TK'd about 20 people in mp when I hit one accidently!). Those are a hell of a lot bigger than the red barrels. And it took much more than a few bullets to detonate them.
aussieterry84 10 Posted June 12, 2009 my god this silly thread is like 5 pages long now! lol chop chop chop roflcopter Do we still have exploding servo's?

von_paulus 0 Posted June 12, 2009 I'm still waiting for those rabbit satchels.... Now that you speek... some piranhas in the lakes and ponds would also add some realism to the game. I thinks it's time to have a nonsense thread.
odjob 0 Posted June 12, 2009 Some roadblocks that automagicaly reinforces 5min after they have been cleared. Or, how about some quad dammage powerups near objectives :)
alan.rio 18 Posted June 12, 2009 So, generally fuel barrels contain oil or diesel, neither of which will explode if you shoot them. IF you manage to spark the fuel instead of just puncturing the barrel all they will do is burn at most. Petrol could possibly explode, again, if you sparked it, but I've never seen anyone (at least anyone with any sense) store petrol in a steel barrel. That's my guess anyway. Anyone care to try it in real life? Could be that the "ArmA 2 should have it because its realistic" argument is void anyway unless you define Hollywood to be realistic. monty67t 0 Posted June 12, 2009 With some scripting we can make the AI run towards you and then side-strafe in the open while shooting at you from 10 metres away. That's better then laying in front of you and shooting at you sometimes, lol. Doesn't pretty much everything catch fire and blow up in ArmA? You can shoot a humvee in the door enough times and make it explode. At least OFP2 is going to have a real damage model and not hit points. You won't be able to make a helicopter explode by shooting it two hundred times with an M4.
