DIVine 10 Posted June 11, 2009 The thing that forced me to write is the Su-25 HUD I saw in screenshots. It's not even close to the real one. First of all, the main mode of Su-25's targeting optics (ASP-17) is automatic mode. In auto mode the element you use is the moving round-shaped mark with crosshairs in it. It's position depends on aircraft's position and movement parameters. Meybe it's difficult to model... Than we have a static crosshairs. Both, static crosshairs and the moving mark, can be seen simultaneously but they have separate brightness controls which allow to fade one or another. The same thing is for hte Ka-52 HUD. It has soviet/russian indication system! I think many players would be glad to see _real_ targeting marks in the HUD of russian aircraft.

galzohar 28 Posted June 11, 2009 Wait, aircrafts have HUDs? :P
frederf 0 Posted June 12, 2009 I would settle for simple and functional over full on realistic (not that true to life would be bad, I'm just being realistic in terms of how much work the devs want to do). I think it would be great to start getting the instrumentation for vehicles off the 2D overlay and onto the 3D real world space. 2D overlays are rather ugly and pretty much unnecessary. DIVine 10 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) Wait, aircrafts have HUDs? Yes, they do! :) ild be happy if the hud was actually bright enough to see If look at the screenshots you'll see that targeting mark on Su-25's HUD is bright enough to see but it's too bold and it has too many non-functional elements that cover the target area. Real mark has thinner lines and they're yellow in color. I would settle for simple and functional over full on realistic (not that true to life would be bad, I'm just being realistic in terms of how much work the devs want to do). Well, I wrote that automayic mode may be difficult to model and not necessary. But those static crosshairs would be great and it would be better than what is now in any way. I think it would be great to start getting the instrumentation for vehicles off the 2D overlay and onto the 3D real world space. 2D overlays are rather ugly and pretty much unnecessary. I prefer real functionality whereever it is suitable. 3D marks are easy and comfortable to use and let them be in 3d person view but if you make any HUD simulation make it functional. That's what I think. Edited June 12, 2009 by DIVine
frederf 0 Posted June 12, 2009 And the gauges on the cockpit should show weapon, heading, altitude, number remaining, fuel, speed, etc. There's basically no need for any of the 2D overlays and they are ugly as sin. Very simple clickable cockpits might be nice. Just "next page" for MFDs would be a good start.
