Charlie Foxtrot: Vitrual War for Real (a large-scale ArmA II PvP Tournament)

Charlie Foxtrot: Virtual War - Campaign 4 is underway on Isla Duala, and River Stone Inc. have taken an early advantage over Shashka International after Battle 1 last Sunday.

We also have an open public server running - if you'd like a bite-sized taster of what large scale organised PvP gameplay is like (filter the server list for 'Charlie')

Here's a news report about the current situation on Duala:

Violent Clashes On Vixena

Duala Plunged into Conflict, DNA Planning Coup?

The military branches of rival conglomerates, River Stone Inc. and Shashka International arrived on Isla Duala last week, as speculation surrounding the rights to local diamond mines intensified. As anticipated by this publication, it did not take long for violence to erupt off the West-African coast. RS, in the employ of the Dualan government, and SI, supporting the Takistan-based company Zarga Oil and Minerals, have clashed on Isla Vixena, a small islet off the Dualan mainland.

The docks at Camara, Vixena's main town, are believed to have been focus of the fighting. Local sources say Shashka were keen to establish a staging area here to facilitate the arrival of the supplies needed to construct a new airfield. This airfield, SI had hoped, would give them the strategic upper-hand if any clashes were to occur with River Stone. Unfortunately for SI, River Stone had similar plans and got to the docks first, securing a key supply depot and the proposed airfield sight. Shortly thereafter, Shashka arrived, and a prolonged firefight ensued in the Camara area.

Shashka anti-tank soldier lies in wait

Having gained the initiative early, River Stone held firm, and despite repeated assaults by Shashka forces, RS went on to not only secure the key objectives, but also to push Shashka's lines back and gain control of an SI forward command post and a radar site. Shashka, having lost their foothold on Vixena, were forced to withdraw to their camp on the Dualan mainland.

Despite gaining the advantage in the opening skirmish, a point of concern for River Stone was the local support for the Shashka assault force. Eye-witnesses report that a civilian helicopter was seen dropping off SI combatants, and various light vehicles were seen to be assisting the Russians' assaults on RS positions. It is thought that the Dualan National Alliance, a local separatist group, are behind this, though they have yet to acknowledge their involvement. The military strength of the DNA is unknown, but any ally of Shashka is sure to concern RS, despite their assistance not proving successful in this instance.

Unknown DNA rebel seen at Shashka base

It is thought that River Stone will now proceed with the airfield construction plans, which is sure to enrage Shashka, who saw Vixena as the ideal secure gateway to Duala.

Meanwhile, on the Dualan mainland, tensions are rising, and there is much concern among the locals of Kinsella, the Dualan capital. A reliable source has informed this publication of the intent of the DNA to attempt to secure the city, by force if necessary, in the coming days. Whether Shashka would assist the separatists in such a move, and whether it would be in their interests to do so, remains to be seen. Such a move by the DNA rebels would surely signal their intent to attempt a coup d'état in the near future.

To counter-act this threat, it is thought that the Dualan government will attempt to lock down the city and declare martial law until such threats have subsided. If this is true, River Stone are sure be at the heart of the operation, as the Dualan Armed Forces seem to consist of little more than a few typists, two off-road vehicles with small Dualan flags attached to their hoods, and a dedicated sand-bagging team.

Zarga Oil and Minerals, the Takistani company of which Shashka are the majority stakeholder, who are currently in control of Duala's diamond mines, would stand to benefit greatly from the ousting of the current government. Given their reported good relations with the DNA rebels, a new Zarga-friendly regime would see their long term interests on Duala secured.

River Stone will be keen to see this uprising dealt with as quickly as possible. Their budding relationship with the Dualan Government is in jeopardy, and with that, the potential to move in on any diamond mining opportunities if Zarga were to be ousted from the region. Additionally, recent history suggests that anything that can be done to impede the progress of their bitter rival Shashka is a top priority for RS.

With so many players involved, and such high stakes, the next two weeks are sure to be explosive on Isla Duala, but who will be first to play their hand?

How many players per week are you getting these days?

Last night there was 72 players on the server when I joined. That number has been pretty constant throughout the week.

So lets say a squad wanted to join together and be on the same army. Is this possible without having to pay anything?

Charlie Foxtrot: Virtual War - Campaign 4

Charlie Foxtrot is free to join, and new members are always welcome - join one of our armies here today!

Battle 4 takes place this Sunday (25/07/10), and we're moving over to Operation Arrowhead.

We also have an open public server running - if you'd like a bite-sized taster of what large scale organised PvP gameplay is like (filter the server list for 'Charlie').

Here's a news report about Battle 2 of the campaign:

12/07/10

Towering Inferno in Kinsella as PMCs Lock Horns

Hazena Coup Attempt Likely, say analyists

Rival private military companies River Stone Inc. and Shashka International clashed again yesterday on Isla Duala - this time in the capital city, Kinsella.

esiwif.jpg

The Kinsella International Hotel, engulfed in flames

It is believed SI forces were attempting to assist the Dualan National Alliance, a local separatist rebel group, in gaining control of the city. RS forces were deployed with the approval of the Dualan government to suppress the rebel threat and counter the SI offensive. Heavy fighting ensued around three key strategic points - The Kinsella International Hotel, a compound believed to be headquarters of the DNA, and a third site known to be a rebel training facility.

While Shashka forces moved to secure the famous old hotel, River Stone assaulted the DNA training facility, meeting little resistance. Having over-run the rebel training range, RS quickly moved to secure the DNA's HQ compound. This aggressive move by RS left Shashka in a precarious position - with the Russian forces concentrated in the hotel area, and both friendly DNA facilities lost to RS control.

Two hours later, with the firefights seemingly abating, Shashka launched a successful counter-attack to retake both DNA sites, and briefly held all three locations. This shocking change of fortunes had RS on the back foot, but they too regrouped, and launched a daring aerial assault on the hotel, landing a Blackhawk helicopter on the hotel roof. Fierce firefights then continued around the hotel and the DNA HQ until eventually an uneasy ceasefire occurred.

2r2rodi.jpg

River Stone attempt a daring rooftop insertion

Disaster struck for the popular Dualan hoteliers of the Kinsella International when a Blackhawk attempting to land on the roof of the hotel burst into flames - presumably struck by a shell from a Shashka T-90 tank. In harrowing scenes, River Stone men were seen jumping from the flaming helicopter - some even managing to deploy parachutes - as the burning chopper crashed into the building. The fireball quickly spread to the hotel, and engulfed the upper floors. Meanwhile, a large bomb exploded in the hotel lobby, devastating the lower floors and engulfing the conference suites with toxic fumes. The identity of the bomber remains unclear. When the fighting finally subsided, the hotel was but a smouldering shell of its former grandeur.

2dtwv3k.jpg

A lucky RS survivor parachutes out of the doomed Blackhawk

The role of the DNA separatists in this conflict remains unclear. Eyewitnesses report that the vast majority of the fighting was taking place between RS and SI troops - with very few reports of DNA involvement. However, there have been reports of DNA troops openly selling weaponry on the streets. These actions not only cast a shadow of doubt on the DNA's supposed relationship with the Takistani company Zarga Oil and Minerals and their partners SI, but also on the DNA's long-term goals. Are the DNA preparing to disband, or merely fueling the fires of revolution?

Further confusion has arisen following the shooting down of an unmarked Kamov helicopter on the outskirts of Kinsella during the conflict. It is not clear who owned this aircraft, or who shot it down. There were no survivors of the incident.

In the immediate aftermath of the Kinsella battle, the Dualan Government has declared martial law in the city, with River Stone assisting government forces to patrol the city and enforce curfews. Shashka, however, are far from beaten, and their strong show of force in Kinsella is sure to be of concern to both RS and the Dualan authorities.

rc0b9g.jpg

Shashka forces disembark near Kinsella

Local sources have suggested that Shashka will now turn their attention to the isle of Hazena. Hazena, just off the Dualan coast, is home to the primary Dualan oil reserves, and is also the site of the Dualan Presidential Palace. If a coup d'état is to be attempted - now is the time and Hazena is the place. Our military experts have suggested that the keys to an attempt to secure Hazena would be the shipping lane between it and the Dualan mainland, the Port of Hazena, and the oil reserves close to the Presidential Palace. Whether Shashka (and the DNA) can rally sufficiently to make a final push is unclear - but regardless of the probability, River Stone and the Dualan Government are sure to do everything in their power to reinforce the area, fend off any attack, and crush the rebels and Shashka once and for all.

Mind posting a Screenshot for this weeks battle to show the amount of total players? :)

Thanks for having a public server open. With right people on it's a blast and I can highly recommend anyone interested in teamwork to give it a go!

I will re-enlist CF when the fall kicks in but for the moment non-scheduled play works the best for me.

You only pay if you want to choose your side.

It is totally free if you leave it to the admins (ie go Random). You'll be placed in an appropriate army depending on army numbers.

Just register on the forums and post in the "Random Placement" thread ;) .

Charlie Foxtrot. CF writer: Jimmy Schortz

Campaign 5 was arguably the best campaign in the history of Charlie Foxtrot history.

Arguably because some would say in the history of the parent tournament as well. While International Conflict: Armed Assault Campaign 7 has been long touted to have had the largest number of players, the most stable server environment and the most equal battle experience – Charlie Foxtrot Campaign Five averaged 85 players per battle, no server crashes and the closest battle and indeed hardest fought campaign in the records.

cfe-300x214.png

For those of you who don’t know, Charlie Foxtrot is a team vs. team environment. Two fighting forces that incorporate everything from logistical considerations to long and short term strategies. The organized battles are about 3 hours in length every weekend. The armies are headed by a staff that include, training, organization and battlefield leadership. Each army has four separate units under the headquarters staff, each unit is divided into sub-units and squads. The H&S company, for example, houses not only the command staff of the team, but the pilots, logistics officers and Long Range Patrol (LRP) contingent.

Charlie foxtrot has just announced the initial scrimmages for Campaign Six. The administration has remained close-mouthed on many of the environmental variables, such as Islands, and map configurations as well as unit organization changes. Said one administrator:

"We can’t tell you because many of these things depend upon a certain amount of surprise and need to be revealed at specific moments to maximize their effect on teh enjoyment of the members. If you really want to know … Sign up."

What is know?

Early testing of the new modifications and addons will be done on familiar territory. Chernarus will be getting a visit, but there are rumors that the main body of the campaign will span multiple islands and involve multiple score systems and logistics trains.

What is known for sure?

We do know that the CF Development staff has at least 3 different automated score systems that can be interchanged like modules, we know they have been testing a Vehicle Retrieval System and Global Vehicle Position Markers. There was a test around battle 5 or 6 in campaign 5 that involved engineers bringing a repair vehicle to a destroyed vehicle and repairing it while a security team provided cover and protection for the engineer. What does that mean? CF Campaign 6 may have some of the largest innovations we have seen to date.

The next campaign will be a Arma 2: Combined Operations Campaign.

This is it - the first battle of the new campaign. Forces arrayed, Intelligence gathered, Battle lines drawn. Two armies are ready for battle. With Riverstone Inc. inaugurating the Summer Campaign with an attack into the Shaska Int'l's defensive zone, will the key resupply point at the airport fall? Will SI forces be able to move up and reinforce the embattled sectors? Can RSi keep up the tempo to maintain the initiative in the attack?

These two forces have fought each other across the winter snows, desert dunes and rolling forests - now they fight in both remembered hell holes and new ones. Since 2009 the give and take between these two forces has been a Darwinian process of battlefield evolution and selection as each army struggles to hit on a strategy that will grasp hold and keep the initiative long enough to win the region - long enough to grab victory for the campaign.

Get in the fight! The armies need you, whether you are a rifleman, machine gunner, logistics wizard, battlefield engineer, pilot or tactical genius. If you can help plan a mission, or just stop a bullet, there is a place for you :) Join us and help stop the evil enemy.
