What does ARMA 2 have that Operation Flashpoint 2 doesn't?

Recommended Posts

It has a command system that hasn't changed since OFP :p.

I saw the radial command menu in the latest trailer and I was like "woah why doesn't Arma2 have that?". I also saw the building entry and CQB gameplay.

(waiting for a mod to do the radial menu in A2, lol)

Arma 2 has more going on than in a 'limited operational area' where the mission takes place. The map is populated, patrolled, foraged, and built up (towns cities).

I can't see anything constructive out of this thread. I am skeptical about DR as well, but opinions should really be left until its release. Throwing mud at either product just cheapens the community. Stop the yapping, go play a few missions or go develop a mod/addon that everyone can enjoy instead. ;)

There is no "acog" with FLIR built in, thats a specialised IR scope.

117 kb

Watch the video again , its an acog scope with flir tacked on.

The t14 sight doesnt have a range reticle on it , that scope in the video is an t14.

just another example of how "in depth" the research is going on a codemasters.

I would be pissed. DLC has really started to be abused. I smell lawsuit very, very soon if any and all companies continue to milk this. It is a terrible thing and I feel that EA, CM and other console companies have got to get a grip. They are charge happy.

This is from that same link :icon_rolleyes:

“I’ve just read a rather unhappy post from RocheClip38 and wanted to try and resolve this issue.

Let me state first and foremost we will not be charging for content that already exists on the discs. So console gamers will not be getting charged for something they already had. I’m a gamer and I would hate for that to be done to me so let me assure you it’s not something we on the dev team or Codemasters are about.

What wasn’t really made clear is that some of the single player and multiplayer missions don’t allow the player to access certain vehicles. We plan to give the player full access to these in some free DLC (but I can’t say any more than that at the moment).

When I said PC gamers would have access straight away what I meant was they would be able to setup their own missions on the editor but I’d like to categorically state that the PC gamers will not receive more missions or additional content than what the console gamers get from Codemasters.

I hope that clears this issue up.

We on the Dev team are really pleased with how well the Hardcore video has been received and how everyone seems even more excited about our game.

Cheers

Timâ€

Not fair, OFP2 isn't out yet so there is no mod community yet and there are no ex packs.

CM has been dead silent about multiplayer on thier forums for the past like year, and it turns out its because they didnt want their community to crucify them for being lazy nubs.

As for the modding , i very much doubt that CM is going to implement serious moddiblity to the engine , example A being ripping the editor out of the console versions for profit on DLC. Why let the community make content when we can charge for it?

Other than that , the game looks like a great competitor to rainbow 6 vegas , and ghost recon advanced warfighter.

That's exactly what it put me in mind of. It'll probably be a good game, but it ain't no military sim.

Dragon rising already has confirmed DLC, plus its not even released. So that stands for nothing. Look at the forums, they also have a large modding community, and the game is not even released.

I used to completely agree with you. In my eyes the game looked like it was going to flop. But after reading many reviews similar to this one:

quote

GamersGlobal:

http://www.gamersglobal.de/angeteste...-dragon-rising

“Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising seems to be a worthy sequel to the ingenious first part. It is as remorseless, hard and versatile as Bohemia Interactive’s original was then. We do hope that Codemasters will not commit the same mistakes as Bohemia did with its Armed Assault games: Including too many features without proper testing and releasing the game way to early. Considering the first two missions we played, we are pretty confident that this is not going to happen with OFP: DR. This game is not designed to attract Rambo, because as soon as you pop up your head on the wrong side of the bush you might have done your final mistake. We are going to be very careful on October 8th 2009.â€

I decided to have faith and change my mind, maybe this game will be realistic. Definitely not to the same standard as Arma 2, but close. Its a different type of game, enjoy it for what it is trying to do.

Have you seen the gameplay videos of it? I'm going to assume you haven't. Because if you have, you'd know that it looks exactly like Battlefield 2. Also, they may have a "strong modding community" in Dragon Rising, but, they don't know if the game is going to be as supportive of modding as ArmA is. Just saying. We're fortunate that BIS has really opened this series up to us allowing it to be easily modified.

dragon rising already has confirmed DLC you will be CHARGED FOR.

Thats how much CM could care about its community , letting you know ahead of time that you will be paying for shit that the community can make faster and better.

The previews mean nothing , most previews these days are paid for and there are strict guidelines about what you can and CANT talk about in the preview. Its a garbage legal tactic that is now standard in gaming.

So for example the "ultra realism" these previewers are talking about means nothing because they have never played a game more realistic than cod4

if you think this game is going to be "awesome and tactical" you are wrong. Backpedaling and saying stuff like "oh well we will learn to like it" is the most embarrassing thing i have EVER seen happen on a developers forums.

And the scariest thing is the slobs on those forums ACCEPTING that the console game will ship without a mission editor and with 4vs4 online matches.

Thats a direct slap in the face and is essentially taking the operation flashpoint name and shitting all over it for a quick buck.

helios was smart to ban me off those forums because if i could still post there i would have completely converted the community against all the bullshit that has been thrown at them , meanwhile people like sir polaris are cuddling between CM's legs making sure the community has no personal opinion about issues forum users have with the game

The other aspect of having to pay for DLC is that CM would probably not release a full suite of modding tools, wouldn't want people being too happy with that much user made content. After all, who's going to give you a pot to piss in when its 50p a go to use the toilet?

Yes i have seen the gameplay videos, you obviously missed the latest builds of the game because it looks nothing like BF2. Don't be ignorant.

lol. Ignorance is bliss eh? They have anounced Both Free and Payable DLC for the game. I guess you forgot we pay for official arma addons did you?

This isn't 9/11, stop trying to make a conspiracy. There were many previews from older builds that gave the game low ratings, due to bugs and AI mainly. I have seen countless previews written by people who admit they are call of duty fans, and they hated the game because it was too slow and hard.

I have also read countless previews from Arma, ofp:cwc players who say it lives up to its name, although not quite as realistic as Arma 2.

"if you think this game is going to be "awesome and tactical" you are wrong. Backpedaling and saying stuff like "oh well we will learn to like it" is the most embarrassing thing i have EVER seen happen on a developers forums."

i dont have a clue what that means, probably some other BS you made up.

Helios probably banned you because you talked as much poop there as you do here. No offense inteneded, but this post you made is un informed and extremely biased.

one word,

community,

Modding community seems fine so far, none of us should say anything about this as the game is not out yet. I am already in a mod team, and they seem just as dedicated as any other team would be.

Wow. It would be in a companies worst interest to disallow modding, games die without mods. It has been stated numerous times by official dev's that it will be extremely moddable, pc users already know they will be getting hundreds of mods.

Some of you are very biased and ridiculous. Now i can see why all the people who like both games stay at the Flashpoint forums, most of the community there has respect for both games.

You guys are agressive, and defensive. Even when you are not being attacked, Thats the most obvious sign of fear. Why you fear a game that is not rivaling you is beyond me, but ok...

My rant is over.

Have to agree with rich, hating and judging a game that hasn't been release yet is a little premature (here they have a nasal spray for that now)

I don't expect dragon rising to be anything like arma 2, and from what I've read and seen it's not like arma 2, but neither is cod yet I kill nazi zombies everyday.

I think dr will have some nice realism aspects with a mix in of arcade and I'm sure that'll make it fun. So it won't have aircraft, so it won't have civilians, oh well, guess I won't get to pretend i'm American and bomb some civilians and my allies, but I'm sure I'll still have fun

No offense, but if it's going to be so great, go away and play it when it comes out. You're wasting your breath trying to convince us of DR's presumed "greatness". By the same token as people shouldn't negatively judge DR before it is released, it's equally silly to preach about how great it "is" based on videos and developer comments.

The trailers for Phantom Menace were great and had people lining up around the block, the actual film was a pile of wank. The fact that Codemasters are dishonestly using the OFP franchise name is just the tip of the iceberg as far as I am concerned.

I'd be very surprised if the modding community is anything near as elaborate as OFP/ArmA's. DR really doesn't appeal to me at all. It looks weak. I'm not hating and I'm not judging. I'll wait for the final product to make a concrete decision but from what I've seen so far, A2 and DR are 2 very, very different games.

Do take note i am not some DR fanboy posting over here, you all know me and my history with Arma 2 well enough to know that!

Anyhow, Cold War Crisis did not apeal to me in any way shape or form in 2001. The graphics looked weak, the gameplay looked bad, and it seemed very low budget.

But i gave it a chance.

Now look where i am? I would class that as one of the worlds best games. Sometimes you must forget all this hate which you are sucked into, and just give something a chance.

Why? Because that makes you better than those who keep their eyes shut.

I love arma and arma 2 with a passion, because i gave them a chance.

I loved FP 1. Hated ARMA 1, love ARMA 2. Gotta be honest here. Flashpoint DR reminds me of BF/COD/R6 Ravensheild.

I hope I am wrong. But so far I don`t get the feeling that it is a Flashpoint game I am looking at. ARMA 2 feels more like FP to me actually. But a demo will be the final decision maker for me.

I think the stuff CM is adding to draw in the CS kiddies, COD players, etc... is gonna hurt the feel of Flashpoint imho. Basicly I think what they are doing is good if they just want more dough from a business standpoint, but the casualty for me is that the FEEL that drew me TO Flashpoint, is no longer gonna be there.

Flashpoint looks like it is gonna end up being JUST a name. Again hope I am wrong. If I am wrong, and I boot up the demo and it screams Flashpoint? Awesome. We all win. But if I am right? Well at least I got ARMA 2 to fall back on.

I have no fear for OFP2, i just don't see it delivering anything near an OFP experience.

If it doesn't have civilians then that's real sad: even the "original" had civilians.

To me OFP2 looks to be just another game out of thousands, where OFP/Arma(2) have this extra mile that not one game came close to. I mean where are the other games where you can go assault an airfield with all sorts of defences in coop with 30 or a lot more players?

As far as i know OFP2 won't be a competitor to what i really like in OFP/Arma/Arma2, but hey if you want to, then give it the benefit of doubt.

I just hope everyone finds the game they love to play and contribute to. On the flipside it would be really bad to get ripped of by a marketing ploy and thriving on the name of a really cool community and game sure sounds like a ripoff plot.

Fear is not really the reason to maltrust OFP2, a mistrust for marketing is.

Some of us trust adds, others trust experience.

From what i've seen churned out of the OFP2 marketing mogol it becomes clear that a lot of people will like the game, but i probably will not be one of them.

Life has tought me not to blindly trust people and to invest less trust in people that betray exactly that trust.

The day i saw some OFP2 devs referring to "our original game" trust was damaged and that damage can never be restored.

BIS has never ever damaged my trust. They never said they had a bugfree game.

They come out with ingame vids from the start. The game is what it is and keeps getting enhanced, step by step, foot by foot.

We'll have good patches, we'll have bad patches, but the core game is what it is and to me it's really good.

Richyspeed, some of your video's show exactly what OFP2's engine will never be able to do and that's why they got so popular. That's an important lesson we may need to store in our memories.

QFT

They are deceiving the public through their BLATANT misrepresentation of the franchise name and implications that OFP DR is the sequel to OFP despite the fact that NO ONE from the original team has anything to do with DR and it is a totally different type of game.

Just to be clear

OFP -> ArmA -> ArmA 2 (BIS)

OFP DR (Codemasters)

Hey, it could be fun, no denying that.

I still prefer the original R6 series (mainly because of the planning - I loved storming that 747 and the Embassy which reminded me of Who dares wins) but Vegas still has entertainment value :)
