The Battle of Bloody Orchard.

I commanded at least 50 men in this scenario that I created..they were up against at least 70 or 80 Russians as the scenario unfolded.

Marines moving up the coast make a routine patrol and are caught off guard by a long range TOW rocket attack from a Russian personnel carrier, and then the firefight begins in good earnest with two fire teams of Marine Recon getting chewed up pretty good advancing through the orchard by withering fire snapping low through the trees while the AH1 gets shot out of the air after three passes without knocking out the enemy APC. Once that happens the air goes out of the attack and the Russians are able to hold off despite heroic efforts right on the cutting edge of the assault by the Marine captain commanding the operation that result in him getting killed while running around trying to manage the assault.

The power of this simulator to create newsreel quality events is amazing. The behavior of the AI troops is spontaneously convincing in this kind of situation...their reaction to the surprise APC attack ( the consequence of dawdling to take pictures) was really some admirable scripting.

One of the cool touches came when the fighting reached it's most furious pitch and radio voices from the far side of the orchard started shouting to cease fire, friendly fire....it was like the AI got amped up by the action and started really pumping lead out wildly and hitting their own marines... and no, it wasn't me...I didn't get to fire a single round, since I was too busy with my map directing the assault and running around trying to maintain situational awareness of the entire battlefield.

Arma 2; best computer game ever...

Congratulations Bohemia Interactive. You've created something truly great. And no it doesn't matter if the campaign is buggy...
