patch 1.02 suggestions

For 1.02, fix the bugs. In order to have the 505 release as good as possible without too bad reviews, bugs should be the only priority at this point.

In the original ofp, the gun caused your whole "camera" to recoil, much like your body in real life. In ArmA1 and 2, only your gun recoils, which is fake.

have you fired a gun in RL? Your head is not attached to it.

@ Hell Toupee, in a manner of speaking your head is attached to the gun (and yes I shoot in real life). When looking down the iron sights of a rifle, the stock is held tighly into the crook of the shoulder and the cheek rests firmly against the comb (top edge) of the butt.

In this way, when fired from the standing or kneeling position, the entire top half of your body helps to absorb the recoil of the shot. The recoil of most high calibre/velocity rounds will move our head/body backwards. If not, (and depending on the calibre of the weapon being shot) you can end up being knocked backwards or having you cheekbone shattered.

Similar principles apply on scoped weapons, except you keep your eye away from the scope in order to compensate for the recoil.

as you said the rifle is held tighly into the crook of shoulder to make sure most of the force are being absorb with your upper body, but not your head, your cheek are not there to prevent the kick hitting your cheekbone too hard in the first place and your rifle will still be kicking in your vision

Well, have you looked up there skirts yet ;) . Somebody posted a screenshot (i can't find it) of a dead hooker, and well you can guess what the picture showed.

So if that was the intention of the programmer who gave us standing women he forgot to create the dialog we could have with these hookers. Hello Mam is really not a lot. She could at least answer, "one hundred for 10 minutes" :D

It would be nice, if fauna (mostly birds) would fade silent whenever a firefight is near player. If I were a bird, I would fly away from that noise quite fast.

I would love it if all the birds flew around but at the sound of a gunshot they flew away with lots of wing-flapping noise,it would add to the 'already-immense' atmosphere of ARMA2. It would also be nice if other fauna didn't get in the way of gunfights :o

And by that I mean AI driving.

And your right. Adding new gameplay features is not a priority as this point. Remove the bugs and keep improving AI, then we`re in for something good.

Civilian women cannot carry any weapons due to limited number of weapon slots.

Civilian men though can carry anything. This should be fixed immediately as it limits mission editing even though it may be a design "feature".

lol with patch 1.02 i see hookers with ak47s fast roping down from an osprey onto a moving aircraft carrier headed for Chernarus, but this time its a fair war because hopefully the patch has sorted out the AI 'see through walls' cheat and other gameplay-breaking bugs :shoot:

Edit: i don't have the game yet but here is a nice vid which shows AI reaction&gameplay in open terrain, but i think in urban areas the 'see and walk through walls bug' still exists with some buildings.

bug fixes are to be expected - BIS are good at that over time. Improvements too - BIS has surprised in the past and seem really dedicated to making arma2 fantastic.

things i would like to see.

AI able to crouch behind cover like those low walls when under fire and the walls are near and being able to fire over it. Same for popping out to fire from behind cover like walls.

ACM module made easier - might simply be a case of more documentation - and its options expanded as its potential is awesome!

Ability to set AI skill and precision via ingame menu instead of editing config all the time

Cover me option on the quick menu

ability to order to watch direction by holding left alt button like in arma

AI throwing smoke occasionally when under fire

On command menu to highlight what combat state is active (stealth combat etc) same for all similar menus.

EDIT - also make the UAV have auto track and refined flight control/dynamic so it is more useful.

true, some of their devteam spend night and day in the office working for ARMA2. Bohemia Interactive has some amazingly dedicated people working in it and they really don't deserve the criticisms from the early release beceause of Morphicon, this is really destructive to a working team who have put so much effort into something just to see it get shredded apart in the reviews. Thats why they can get constructive criticisms in this forum :D

Yes, the 1.01 final not 1.02. Sure hope they will take their time, need a good patch for the world wide release to come. To bad I think the reviews will be based on the 1.01.

Aside from many of the things people have mentioned so far, I would very much like to see weapon switching while moving. I mean, if BIS has truly improved the system to allow for separate torso animations, then why not just merge the current "standing" weapon animations with the current leg movements?

It's physically possible to make these sorts of movements in real life and now the engine supports it. So, why not?

Maybe, but as I said ealier I think its much more important to solve the bugs and AI before adding new/more gameplay features.

Add the following weapons:

M16A4 with aimpoint and M203

M40A3 without camo

G36C Eotech without SD

MP5SD6 with aimpoint

MP5A5 with aimpoint

All of these weapons already exist in the game in one way or another, so it wouldnt require much work.

May have been covered earlier, more then one save slot. Also don't autosave on exit without asking.

Create a configurable context menu.. Say one the player can use/edit for their most used commands rather then having to go through heirarchy in menus.

You can set skill and precision in the menu just like ArmA.

-A.I. walking through walls

-Better driving skills for A.I with military and civilian vehicles

-More optimizing of the code, ie/ lods, texture loading...

-Faster A.I. recognition of enemy within a certain radius

Just to name a few of my wishes for the next patch.

Overall, the game blows me away even with the bugs.

Great job BIS, hats off to a fantabulous game.

I for one wish BI would improve the A-10. They haven't done the A-10's GAU-8 much justice. I'm sorry if I sound demanding, but the in-game sound of the GAU-8 isn't anything close to the real thing. As for the rounds temselves, they don't seem to do a lot more damage than the cannon on the other jets. Maybe have a little splash damage from the 30mm rounds?

I've just one suggestion to BIS.

Please! Please rework the campaign. It has potential and I belive it will make much fun, but the many little bugs and errors destroy all campaign feeling. :(

I can't really belive that BIS mainpart was the campagin because to release such buggy story at the release day can't be the result of, I belive marek said 3 years storywriting and implementation.

I don't know if its my system (Phenom II, 4780 1gb, 4GB RAM) or if its the game but i would also suggest to correct the LOD problems, which I always get. It also destroy the athmosphere.

As to voice russian soldier:

The Voice of the actor, intonation etc. me much liked! (this my native language) But here is with conjugation verb in vocal command - a problem!!!

Do Not know, who and as озвучивал soldier - but admitted mistakes, which cut me ears!:mad:

Just change the end of words - phrases (voice commands) would be really turned into the correct Russian sentence!

I do not know really whether it is hoped that the BIS fix - vocalize some words again...

But I hope at least in Russia, publisher Akella will be allowed to voice correctly...
