hi madDogX, it sure doenst look that bad on low settings. i mean i wouldnt mind playing it on low if my system couldnt take it.

Well, I think it looks pretty much like OFP, except for the HDR, reflections and "cleaner" textures :).

One thing I've noticed is that the particle effects like explosions and smoke aren't configurable and don't scale back with any of the options, so heavy particle scenes can really hog performance. If that weren't the case, I think Arma2 could run quite well even on very low end SM3 cards.

The "foot" AI seems to have improved in 1.01, i´m observing AI suppression and flanking moves more often. Having the AI drive a vehicle is however, as bad as ever.

Small AAR using the latest build:

There's a campaign mission that requires you to raid several towns. I approached the first with 2 UAZ's, continuing per pedes to a wooded hill top overlooking the OBJ.

After having an estimate of the composition and location of opfor inside and around, preperations were made to raid. There are two AI infantry squads and a HMG UAZ at your disposal, which i positioned S of the Obj to execute the main assault. Razor 3 and 4 would provide fire support with the UAZ´s positioned on the W highground, Razor 2 call out targets and provide precision fire. I would join the attack on the left flank.

I took initial position behind a small hut, just S/W of the town, and thought a good way to initiate the raid was to take out an opfor UAZ crew guarding the S/W road entrance to the town. Doing so triggered a series of events; the raid, and fire on my position. I was pinned down, until the supporting element opened with AGL.

Opfor tried to flank me, laying down suppression fire and having single units hedgehogging forward left and right, but it was a futile effort. On the left i had my supporting element, on the right was the main assault force. The AGL and HMG could reach far into the town, every attempt by AI to set up a defense against my advancing assault element was not really successful.

I think there wasn't much work left for the raid party, just rounding up a couple of survivors inside the town. Sadly there were some casualties on our side, and the AI UAZ was shot up. However, guess the AI driver skills of the HQ Bmp-2 after the cutscene caused more casualties among the civilian population, than i suffered during the entire assault. :D

Too bad the mission cannot be completed because of clipping issues, as after freeing the last town and ending of the 1st person cutscene, i get clipped into a civilian sitting on a bench, unable to move.

But people are saying that the driving is like the one we have in 8 years Operation Flashpoint, and still havent changed. That makes me a bit worried that the problem might never be solved with patches, when it cant be fixed 8 years and two games later, right..

They are affected by the 'object detail' setting.

Ah, I assume in a similar way to objects. Sorry, I didn't test it that thoroughly. :)

I based my assumption on the fact that particle effects like burning vehicles cause rather large fps drops for me, even on very low object detail settings.

what are the differences between 1.01 beta and 1.01 final?!

can anyone tell? are they worth the installation? cuz i do get occasional online bugs BUT i hardly play online (my friends with whom i'll be playing online will only buy the game in it's 505 release). mostly toying with the editor. basically im looking for AI improvements the most. MP glitches dont worry me too much ATM and will worry me after the 505 release.

Well, it is obviously worth installing v1.01 final over the beta as it does have subtle improvements. Though from what I can tell on these forums, it doesn't change too much from v1.01 beta. Still, why stay behind and use a beta when the final fixes issues that the beta has? So really, yes, it's worth installing even if you don't play MP much.

While there may be an argument for not installing a beta patch, one which is equaly spurious in the case of ArrmA and BIS by the way because beta's are normaly run as MODs in ArmA. And so do not affect your install version.

There is no argument at all for not running a "Final" patch.

Incase anyone cares...

recorded some stuff in HD yesterday was pretty fun... but i don't know what happend to the sound, maybe because i recorded in dolby digital. :/

@ LAncezh: Could be, but hey no sound means smaller file, though your video does show we can now run with AA weaponry, I'm guessing light AT will be the same.

Yes that's interesting, I hope I'll be able to set battle like this one on my PHENOM II when it'll be used by arma engine correctly. Not like this:

2 cores only? 23 fps in the game, on the box you've advice to use quad cores... what for?

It’s beautiful. I like that the grass is reacting to the wind & rain. And love that when the aircraft crash. It dig’s a trench in to the ground. So will we be able to dig fighting positions in the game/simulation also? :yay::yay::yay:

Not sure about this directly but I can say there are objects in the Editor called trenches. Haven't checked em out yet though.

Yes has a nice atmosphere!

But, can you please add alternating Muzzle-flashes in further patches? It looks very ugly when he fires with the SAW in this Vid.... Even OFP had variating/alternating muzzle-flashes....

It would be interesting to know if they are the traditional above-ground structures or some sort of very, very flat vehicle with 'crew' anims that are partially-buried?

Hi Guys i figured the sound issue out with youtube. It seems that if you switch to Stereo in Windows before recording with Fraps it works. Anyways. I've added another HD Video of some gameplay of a mission i'm currently trying to balance... I caught a pretty neat Chopper going down pretty close to me and in a very unexpecting way =)

The developers said that 1.02 will have improved car AI and path finding. I hope this also means that the planes can take off without driving outside the track before going into the air. That seems so stupid when they do.
