Regardless who said what in this case, TWI has always been very direct in its communication and focused on their own visions(and as a result, so has their community).

This is a god thing in most cases, though it also means that they aren't picking up on what might not be horrible ideas.

Read: every thread on the Tripwire forums arguing iron sight-zoom, as well as some other details.

Edit: thanks big.

That damned zoom feature has caused a helluva lot of arguments on both BI and TWI forums. :D

as probably only (or nearly) only person on the forum who actually has the RO2 beta and played the game

i'm sort of amazed by some 'wise' remarks found in this thread ...

wait for release or demo or public beta (if it happens) before You drop judgment on this great title ...

I was wondering when you would say something, You're probably the only person here who actually has first hand experience with this game. (Actually, I bet you are the only person here with that)

Huh? No one has even said anything bad about the game. Or are we only allowed to bash DR and RR?

Ramm-Jaeger]2) I heard English?

- We had this debate internally. What is more realistic, understanding what the soldiers from your nation are saying, or not understanding what the guy on your side standing right next to you is saying? Well for us the answer was simple - it is way MORE realistic to understand what your comrades are saying. So you always hear your team speaking accented English (or another language if the game is localized into your native language) and the enemy speaks German or Russian. There will not be an option to turn this off, as we discovered it will take up too much memory to do this (there is a LOT of dynamic battle chatter, even in MP).

I'm not sure how to even respond to this without being disrespectful.

Just doing what they said they were doing IS disrespectuful. Its a WW2 realistic sim. Germans did not speak English. Russians did not speak English. If you want realism then put in their original language! I have no problem with subtitles.

Guys, what's wrong with You?

It's not that bad solution and I bet it can be easily modded.

The idea behind it is that it's more realistic for a Russian to be able to understand Russian.

Rather than not.

I agree with the to be honest, Immersion means nothing if I cannot understand them.

Yeah, it sounds cool to hear them speak Russian, but if the guy screams and order at you in Russian and you cannot understand what the hell he's saying without scrambling to read text going along the bottom of the screen which says "Behind you!", It's just as much of an immersion killer as it is with the correct language.

If I'm playing a German soldier I should hear my German soldier teammates speaking the language I understand on my end which is english.

The Russian side should hear German on their side and I should hear Russian when I'm within range of them.

You get exposed enough to short and simple messages, with a bit of help from a text or similar, you become passive bilingual. If it weren't for OFP & ArmA 2, I probably wouldn't know a single russian word right now. I find the authentic language to be much more immersive then the need to understand what you are saying right away. And like I said, with enough exposure you will eventually understand it.

ArmA 2 wouldn't be the same without Russian, 'Der Untergang'/'The Downfall' wouldn't be the same if it was dubbed to English, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wouldn't be the same without the slavic language, etc. etc. The list can go on and on. It just sounds plain wrong when you know it isn't the correct language for the scene and I lose the immersion by that.

Not agree. Have played some matches in RO1 on purely russian populated servers, and even though i didn´t understand a shit of whats mostly been going on, there were some phrases on voice chat like "pulomtchnk *gibberish*" which went very well along with a constant buzzsaw noise from the right and then i knew we were getting raped by MG on the flanks - meaning "don´t go there".

It´s like with FDF Mod for OFP, play it enogh and you´ll soon understand what an "uksi koksi something" is and how dangerous it can be to you. Perfect immersion.

edit: totally agree with colossus :)

Which is exacly what they've done.

Your teammates speak your native language, the enemy speaks their native language.

This was their proposed solution from the beginning if I remember correctly. It's a fair compromise and in the heat of battle you're not going to be thinking about what language your teamates are speaking (especially if the accents are believable).

I think it's more immersive that you fully understand your comrades, otherwise you're playing the part of a foreigner. These are the people you grew up with and trained with, and you should only passively understand what they're telling you? That would be unrealistic.

To be fair, there's a strong argument either way, and a lot of it depends on whether you like reading subtitles while you're playing a relatively fast paced first person shooter. An option either way would be nice, but i'd prefer to understand my own "countrymen" first.

Yeah, Features like these end up splitting the community down the middle.

With 1/2 not wanting it, and the other 1/2 wanting it /not caring.

Either way, in the heat of battle. I'd prefer to be able to understand what my commander is telling me to do, and whether I have to look at subtitles or be able to understand him talking. It doesn't make much of a difference.

It'd just be convenient to be able to understand what he's saying.
