If you want to play ArmA2 better look out for a setup with a P67-mainboard (e.g. Asus P8P67) and a 4-core Intel CPU. 6 cores are (not yet) required. 8GB RAM are more than enough for now too if you want to save a few bucks more. larsiano 12 Posted March 4, 2011 @ the water coolers: You can easaly watercol the CPU and or GPU with waterblocks. like said before the s1156 is the same size as s1155 so that wont be a problem to find. But for GPU full cover waterblocks it can take upto 3 months after release of the card before you can get a nice waterblock to come with it. Remember! when you watercool a CPU the airflow around it is reduced by the absence of the CPU cooler blowing cool air on the chipsets besides it making it harder to overclock. Learning to build and OC will also give you new skills, plus saving you loads of cash. I see in your list you've changed your GPU to a quadro, Its the same sort of GPU as the last one you chose. the best cards on the market are the Nvidia GTx580 and the ATI 6970. I paid roughly 1 grand in Euros for mine, just the rig, no monitor, keyboard, mouse. I never heard of that GPU you got in that updated setup, but if you got 2-3 grands you can easily get a GTX580, or even two in SLI. If it blows your budget, replace the 240GB SSD with a 120GB and get an extra standard mechanical HDD for data storage. I got one (SSD 120) too, Windows + ArmA2:OA with loads of addons including two different ACE versions, about 5 extra islands etc. take up about 55GB. Look for a Sandy Brigde Intel CPU + Board (Socket 1155, not 1156). Still that updated setup seems to be a bit of a ripoff to me for 2-3 grands.. Leon86 13 Posted March 5, 2011 Well, in that case it might be worth saving a lot of money and building your own rig. If you want to spend somthing like 1200 euro I'd get a rig with: i5-2500K s1155 motherboard with the P67 chipset, preferably one with crossfire AND SLI capability. (maybe handy in the future and because they're not really cheap overall better boards) 4 or 8 GB ram, if you're too lazy to look it up in the QVL (tested memory list) then get kingston valueram 1333. A gpu, price/performance between ati and nvidia is pretty much equal, I'd recommend an nvidia card if you get a sli capable board as sli seems to work much better with arma 2 than crossfire. The fastest gpu is the gtx 580. gtx 570 and 560 are slower but offer slightly better price/performance, as always. A decent case (I like the antec p183) A decent brand psu (corsair and seasonic are pretty good brands, otherwise look for reviews). If you get a 750W A-brand psu you can easily run crossfire/sli setups. I have a corsair AX750 myself, it's expensive but efficient and silent and comes with a 7 yr warranty (fan even turns off if the pc doesnt use 150W) A sata dvd drive A ssd (maybe a vertex 3 if you can get one) A hd for storage like a spinpoint f3 1TB Windows 7 x64 If you plan to do some overclocking maybe add a couple of silent 800 rpm fans and a good cpu cooler like the scythe mugen 2. I have a NVGTX285 (330€ new back then and now 130€ used) and am realy happy with this 'old' card i can play everything on max settings 1920x1200 with 20/25 fps. I've seen them creep up to around £206 on eBuyer too... just depends on their stock I think... Best money I've spent in ages!!! I had an Nvidia 8800GTS 320mb before - scraped to mid-20's FPS with everything on "normal" (1920x1200, PP & AA Disabled) in Benchmark 1 & E08... With the new 560 that went to 60fps in Benchmark 1 & 58 fps in E08 (1920x1200, everything on Very High except PP & AA off)... An enormous improvement! By dropping all settings to just "high" (except for Anis & HDR on Very High, PP & AA off), I can crank the res to 4144x1200 across 3 screens with Kegetys SoftTH and still manage to average 35-40fps..... I can wholeheartedly recommend the 560 - and that particular Gigabyte model... I shopped around quite a bit before buying, and for anyone in the UK currently considering an upgrade - it's very hard to beat at that price! Its been a while since I've changed my setup ('07/08ish), so I'm bound to get something out of any upgrade. Not looking for any maxed out setting rigs. Instinctively the CPU approach is expected to require some extra stuff, mobo/ram etc. Current Setup: (1680x1050/1600 ViewD/All Normal-PostProc off/In-game bench~30fps) E6750 2.6 ghz 8800 GTS 512 4GB PC5300 640GB SATA HDD Win7 32Bit I'm leaning towards an ATI HD 6850/GTX460 or saying goodbye to my 775 socket and heading towards the i5 series 760ish (or any i5/7's I can get a nice mobo bundle at Fry's). I'm pretty sure its gonna be a GPU/CPU bottleneck either way for now, but it'll eventually get both upgrades as soon as I read/catch up on the stuff I missed out on since 08. If you want to compare between brands (there's some different versions with other coolers and factory overclocks) you should look up a couple of reviews.
