stingfish74 0 Posted January 2, 2011 hey gang, im an old operation flashpoint and arma player and just saved up for a new rig. will you please see the specs below and let me know if this will be able to play arma2 and OA on very high settings. I mostly make small missions in editor and dont play online. Intel Core i7-950 CPU 12GB DDR3-PC1600 RAM (2-Way SLI Support) Asus Sabertooth Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX Mainboard Triple-Channel DDR3 FCLGA1366 ATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 HD Audio NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB 16X PCIe Video Card Please let me know this will be a nice rig for arma2. this rig will be purchased with arma 2 in mind. IF you think i should replace anything please let me have your feedback and recommendation replacement and the reason if possible. thanks guys, can't wait to be back in the game. stingfish. avibird 1 141 Posted January 2, 2011 Arma 2 has issues with CF on the newer AMD cards (5xxx and 6xxx) but there is no problem with SLI that I am aware of. BangTail Thanks for the Correction! I just assumed the developer how told me that was talking about both cards. He did say the 6870 was the best card if you were going to try to use crossfire but he advised against it at this time. With a decent case cooling (couple of extra $9 fans) and an easy to install and cheap aftermarket air cooled CPU cooler (+/- $50) you can easily overclock that i7 920. I did it using exactly what was shown in this youtube clip and have been running at 3.8 GHZ stable for a year now. SeaVee 10 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) OK. I just pulled the trigger on an evga GTX570. I'll be ordering a second GTX570 as soon as they are back in stock at newegg and run that in SLI. The first one should arrive Friday. rowdied 44 Posted January 4, 2011 I splurged on boxing day and upgraded my system to the i7 2600k with p8p67 MB and 4gb ram and have to say at stock it does 1fps better than my i7 930 o'clkd to 3.8. Thanks in advance! not if you look at pure price/performance ratio. but phenoms are a bit faster clock/clock and have black editions for easy overclocking. Will get an Athlon x4 then, maybe Arma2 will make a use of the fourth Core at some point in the future? Well even if not, other games might get some boost from 4 cores too. I can't nail it down with hard facts, but I guess the difference in ArmA2 will be higher then 20% - what puts the higher price into another perspective. Now, let's find one AMD Athlon X4 and one Phenom X4 that have the same clock frequency and where the only difference is the L3 cache. The Athlon II X4 640 and the Phenom II X4 945 are both 3.0 GHz, quad-core AM3 socket processors where the only difference is that the Phenom has 6 MB L3 cache. Phenom II X4 945: 16.1 Athlon II X4 640: 14.7 That's a 9.5% higher "score" for the L3-cached Phenom II. Is there a benefit to the L3 cache?
