Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Recommended Posts

When I get the core i7 920 is it more powerfull than regular intel Q series or do i need to overclock it so it will become better than because it is only 2.66mhz per core. I am new at these things. Thanks

GHz ratings are meaningless when comparing two processors of different types. So a Core i7 @ 2.66GHz = Core 2 Quad @ ~3.2GHz. But you should overclock them anyway, you can bring it up to about 4GHz on air cooling, so go for it.

what about this for a little more money?

# Choice of Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 OR Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 CPU

# Asrock G31M-S Motherboard

# 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4650 PCI Express Graphics Card

# 4GB (2 X 2GB) Kingston OR Corsair PC6400 800Mhz DDR2 Ram

# 250GB 7200rpm SATA II Hard Drive

sorry not a ati radeon hd 4650 it is a ati radeon hd4890

Good spec, go for the Q8200.

Yes.

EDIT: Wait, what happened to the spec with the Q8200?

alot of pages to read here, so if my q has been asked before, sorry.

i will make an small upgrade om my rig, arma 2 is braking it down

my spec are

C2D E8400 @ 3,6

Gigabyte 4870 1GB

4GB RAM

It's odd that it wouldnt run well on this. The HD4870 should be more than enough (have you tried overclocking it). ArmA II isnt going to make proper use of two graphics cards, and a Q9650 isnt going to make much difference (See this.) Do you have the latest patch installed? What settings are you using?

As you can see, your graphics card should be more than enough.

My current spec....

Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black edition clocked to 3GHZ per core

4GB DDr2 dual channel RAM

Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 slightly clocked

Arma runs ok on "normal" settings and great on lower settings

IM planning to upgrade to this setup in the next day or 2...

AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black - will be clocked or my watercooling is a waste :D

Nvidia GTX 260 216Core - dont think I will need to clock this

I may add 4gb of ram but im not sure its worth it.

Will I see "High" settings and decent frame rates in arma now?

Cheers!

Tom

I just upgraded to a Q9650 from an E8500.

Even without overclocking, performance in ArmA2 is better.

I have a G15 keyboard and can see how much the cpu and ram are used.

I have 4gb ram, win xp sp3 and a bfg gtx 260 oc 216cores and the ram never runs over more than about 40% usage.

The CPU however is regularly running at 65% (65% of 4 cores) and that is already more than 2 fully loaded cores on an E8500 (would be equal to around 50% of my 4 cores).

Of course the game will run on an E8500 but i am seeing better performance with the quad, so for me, the upgrade was worth it...

I've overclocked the quad to 3.6 and performance is even better. For every 0.5ghz you overclock, you should see around a 10% performance boost.

What do you think about my computer?

Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT

4GB of RAM

Vista 32 bit

Should it run ArmA 2 without problems?

_Dan;1320628']I havent really got that much of a clue when it comes to graphics cards

But would this run Arma 2 well enough

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GTS+250+Series+PCI-E/Gainward+GTS+250+Graphics+Card+512MB+PCI-Express+TV%2FDVI%2FHDTV+?productId=36137

It would. If you can afford a Hd4870 or even a HD4890 I'd go for them though.

AMD 64 X2 5200

XFX Geforce 9800GT 512mb

4gigs ram

When I got the game, it would barely run. I upgraded from an 8800GTS to the 9800 and from 2gigs ram to 4gigs. Now it runs alright. Still stutters a bit and video lags in multiplayer on Normal Graphics at 1124 resolution.

Whats my next step here? Should I return the video card and get a GTX or somesuch? Get a quad core? I just Futuremark'd my computer and got a

CPU Score

21272

Graphics Score

4930

P6102 3DMarks

Whats my next step here?

I'm not entirely worried about my PC, because I can run Crysis on high-very high, but I'm curious as to how my net will handle big battles.

As far as I can tell, I can get a maximum download speed of ~400Kb/s.

Is it possible for me to enjoy big team ~100 player battles?

Guys, would I benefit from waiting for the 1GB HD4850 over the 512MB model to run ArmA 2?

Everything else in the laptop would be the same: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0G, 4GB DDR2, and Vista 32 or 64 bit if I can get a copy.

As you can see my CPU is working for its money :D when I play ArmA2 on high settings, which I like.

Would I benefit from overclocking it a little and if yes, where can one find a tutorial for this

How many FPS can one gain from this?

How would it work if I only throw Vista out the window and go for Windows 7 instead?

Dell XPS 420

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, 3.0 GHz

3.00 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (182.50 drivers)

Thanks in advance,

Laggy

I don`t think that you would gain any significant boost in-game experience [graphics or FPS or whatever/] with changing the OS [32bit versions atleast].

Depends on what resolution you play, try just for scientific purpose running the game on complete max and run some fps monitor, then you can determine if you really need to change anything on your XPS.

... btw., tommorow I will try to make a OS sweep from Vista x86 Home Premium TO Vista x64 Ultimate and upgrading memory [sometime wednesday] from 2.5GB to 8GB [2x Kingston 4GB PC2-5300 200-PIN DDR2 667MHz] to see if it`s going to make FPS on Very High details in 1920x1200 playable :D

All right, I've read through the last 50 pages of this thread.

From what I've gathered, I'd be able to run ArmA 2 at high/very high settings and get pretty good FPS with a i7 CPU and Radeon 4890 GPU.

I'm looking to build a whole new computer, so far I've picked out:

ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131386

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202

ASUS EAH4890/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121308

OCZ Reaper HPC 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000) Triple Channel Kit

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227379

If someone could recommend to me a good case + PSU, I think I'd be all set. I used Antec on my last build, and I like their cases, I was looking at this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129037

EDIT:

I wound up getting an Antec 650W power supply and the Antec nine hundred case. Got a Sony DVD/CD ROM reader and Samsung SATA HDD. I can't wait, should all be here in the next few days.

Dont go cheap on the PSU! THE MOST IMPORTANT PC COMPONENT!

People often overlook getting a quality PSU as they focus on the other 'bling' that makes games run at high settings.

I would recommend looking at PC power and cooling for a PSU. They make good ones.

fyi, I am making this recommendation not on my own experience but that of someone whose hobby is building his gaming rig.

crackbags rig

My personal taste is Full Tower case. more room for those 10.5" long gfx cards, hiding cables and making better airflow.

Buying these Tomorrow, mostly for ArmA 2, but also for PC gaming in general. I was wondering if anyone, preferably a dev, could answer if ArmA 2 supports this device?

It shouldn't need special support. Just set the sound to 7.1.

It’s quite daunting reading all these posts trying to work out a system that will run A2 at reasonable level.

I was hoping it would be a simple task after all the dramas with A1. Doesn’t seem to be that way at the moment.

I remembered back from an old post in 2008 by Maruk and the system he used for reviewing A2. My idea is that surely the CEO would run a system that played A2 at a decent level, hopefully at medium/high settings with a decent frame rate.

His system was:

Core2Duo 6750 2.66 GHz

GF8800GT/512

2 GB RAM

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=69154&highlight=gold+old

After reading this thread I’m left wondering did the above system actually performed well or was it just used for screenshots.
