Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Recommended Posts

Dell XPS 420

Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, 3.0 GHz

3.00 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (182.50 drivers)

Installed the game tonight :yay:

German version.

Patch 1.01

No mods or tricks (no blurr, maxmem etc.)

Graphics settings only set in option menu.

VD 2000+

Fill rate 100%

Everything on Normal except:

Shadow detail - High

PP - Low

AF - Low

Haven't tried ArmA Mark yet, but it seems to run OK.

- Not as detailed as I can run ArmA1 (all on very high) but still overall nicer looking.

- Campaigns first couple of missions are very playable as well as the SP missions I've tried.

- Textures loading slow sometimes, just like ArmA1.

- Editor test: Total of 8 groups fighting (3 infantry and 1 armored/side) + 1 player in Chernogorsk is playable but quite laggy.

- 4 hours of testing and NO CRASH so far, more stable than ArmA1...

Kind of what I expected and will probably be better after some tweaking, don't understand why so many are panicking about the performance, a few more patches and VOILA!!!

Laggy

Hello people, first post on this forum :)

Ok my system will be able to play the game yes? but was wandering if any of you would have an idea how well it will run. Would love to be able to enjoy the graphics with decent FPS, i dont mind some minor lag now and then...

Ok heres the stats:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz

Memory: 3582MB RAM DDR2 800Mhz

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (slightly overclocked, special boxed BFG edition)

Operating System: Windows XP

Motherboard:GeForce6100SM-M

Am really looking forward to the game, buying operation flashpoint for £5 was one of my better game choices and am excited about playing a similar modern title. :D

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I had a similar system to yours 2 days ago. AMD Opteron 165 @2.6ghz, 4GB DDR 400mhz, ATI 4850, Vista64. It was playable at 1600x1050 normal settings. Then I got a Intel I7 920 with 6GB of DDR3, and new motherboard, the FPS went up 3x. It's been 4 years since I had a new system, so I guess it was time to upgrade, it's still good for all other games today, but ARMA2 really does take alot of power.

I will upgrade my video card when the DX11 cards come out in the fall, I am hearing that they are 2-3x faster than the current generation of cards. I was going to get another 4850 so I can crossfire my cards, but it seems that ARMA does not support SLI or Crossfire at the moment so I did not get another card.

My AMD Opteron 165 was the best bang for the buck back then. It could be overclocked to 2.6ghz which is basically a $1000 processor. I am doing the same for the I7 920 as soon as I get a good after market heatsink/fan to put it up to at least 3.8-4ghz which is faster than the best Intel $1000+ processors out there in the market.

hello, just a few quick questions about Arma 2. i am reading system requirements and my PC SHOULD meet them but im a little scepticle. as of right now i have an AMD 64 Athlon x2 Dual Core processor 3800 + 1.99 GHz, 2.00 GB of ram. in the other room i have a HP pavilion intel pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHZ with 1.50 GB of ram. now i have boughten a MSI ATI RADEON HD 4850 512MB (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270400076613)

with an additional power supply for which ever PC i decide to go with (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817339012).

now my question is which PC do i go with? i was thinking about over clocking my dual core, but dont want to risk(something ive never done before) if it i can go with the pavilion in the other room, now grant it the other PC is not dual core and i would probably have to add more ram (which isnt a problem).

any thoughts & comments would be much appreicated, thank you.

Hey all, im new to these forums. I played OP back in the day when it came out, but never got around to try Arma when it was released. Seems it wasnt available to most in Norway at the time. Nor will Arma 2, so i decided to buy that from UK when it gets released 19 jun.

Today is the day, im ordering in all the parts to buy a new PC, my aim is to have one that will last 2 maybe 3 years into the future. Im not skilled at building com`s so a friend of mine will do it. He has sent me a list of parts that he thinks will be good, but i would like to have the comunity`s input aswell.

From the list i have two questions.

Radeon 4870X2 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0

or

Geforce GTX 295 1792 MB PhysX CUDA

( I would go for the GTX 295 card if i could get my hands on the Hydro Cooper version, but cant seem to find it anywhere)

Intel Core i7 Quad Processor i7-920 4,8GT/sec, 8MB, Boxed

or

Intel Core i7 Quad Processor i7-950

Im building for the future, and would like to know if its worth to go the with the extra price on the processor and graphics card?

Going anything above i-7 920 is probably a total overkill, at least in performance per $, and as far as I understand from overclocking websites you can easily clock it really high - even with the original fan you can clock it up to the more than the 1000$ processor's speed. Save the money for the graphics card.

For graphics card(s), though, the sky is the limit in terms of how much you're willing to pay, that is you'd need some crazy SLI work to run this game at max. So it's really a matter of how much you're willing to pay for the extra graphics/fps.

Just get a I7 920 and overclock it to a $1000 prcoessor and save money for the video card. This game as of right now from what I am hearing is that it does not work with duel graphic cards.

Ok on the i7 - 920

Can someone confirm the part of dual graphic cards not working? Does that mean that the card wont work at all, or just that the game cant fully exploit dual cards?

nvidia geforce 9100

Ouch. No no no...

That card probably won't run Arma2 at any decent framerate I'm afraid. Not even on lowest settings.

Hey System Spec Gurus,

Any opinions on how the game will run on my system:

Alienware m15x Laptop

1920x1200 native resolution, 15inch montior

Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.50GHz

NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX @ 800Mhz Mem/500Mhz Core (180.7 Drivers)

4GB DDR2 RAM @ 667Mhz

Windows Vista SP1

ArmA1 runs fairly well on high settings, 2500m view distance and 1920x1200 @ 30+ FPS but without Anti-aliasing.

I can also try lower resolutions that fit 16:10 but would like to keep it 1920x1200:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16/10

I'm pretty sure my laptop upgradablility is limited, except for possibly the GFX card.

Haven't got the game yet but just trying to get a 'feel' for how it will run.

I just got a quote on the following from my PC shop:

Q9550 Core2Quad 2.83GHz - £224

GeForce GTx260 - £180

x2 DDR2 1GB - £12 each (in addition to my current 2GB)

Having second thoughts on the rather expensive CPU cause I read earlier that Quads are wasted in ArmA 2. Is that right? Also, how does the above look in terms of priority?

I really want a rig that'll eat ArmA 2 and don't fancy wasting money otherwise.

Cheers!

No such thing as future proof let alone asking it to last 2/3 years. You really shouldn't ask your friend to give you overpriced lists with bad component choices. Consider the Phenom II X4 955 excellent price/performance ratio and overclocks just as good as the i7 920 if not better.

Im thinking about doing a similar upgrade (cpu only).

Based on what people are reporting its still Arma II that is eating all the hardware out there though  . I sure hope this is not a case of "made for the future".

Its hard to understand why Arma II doesnt scale down to look and run like the first Arma atleast, its far from the massive leap betwean OPF and Arma .. but im confident BIS will improve it somewhat, just hope it wont take 2 years :D .
