Did they really lower the max view distance for ArmA2 to 6000?

Hopefully not.

Then again, the view settings bar in ArmA 1 is not very proportionate.

Move it a little on the left side, and it only moves a few hundred feet.

Move it a little on the right side, and it moves several thousand feet.

Yes, it does :) (actually, I forgot about that... :nuts: ), but I think I heard Marek mention it (IIRC he said 6000). I'll see if I can find that video again.

The transmitter which could be seen on some of the screenshots (top left corner of this one for example) is a TV and radio transmitter Cukrák.

Geographically it doesn't fit in the area (real location near Prague), but according to Ivan Buchta they wanted to put some known landmark to Chernarus.

In Google Earth, they made a 3D model of the tower. Just copy/paste the coordinates (49.936300, 14.356003) and see. It's pretty neat.
