King's Gamble (FDF campaign) ***Spoiler***

Recommended Posts

Hello !

***** Caution, spoiler inside ! *****

Mission #2

I don't understand what I have to do in mission #2 (the one where you have to watch a farm from a hill). I killed all ennemies in the farm, and then nothing happens. Thanks for your help.

Edit: ok I finally found by myself wink_o.gif. You have to let ennemies shot first, and then you can attack. And for thoses who don't know what to do after killing all ennemies (I spent one hour to search...), you just have to enter into the little wooden house to complete the objective.

Mission #7

Wow the first mission in Podaga is very hard ! Who knows how to complete it ? There are too many opposants and not enough soldiers defending the checkpoint. How can I survive ?

Mission #8

I had to use cheat code to pass mission #7 because it was too hard. But how to complete this one too ? I'm always killed as soon as get of the jeep, I can't do anything before been killed.

Missions 7 and 8 were pretty easy, at least for me.

In mission 7, just stay behind the sandbags and use 66kes88 first and when the bigger armors come, use Apilas.

In mission 8, I take it you are talking of the beginning. Just wait for your guys to get out of the car first and then get out.

Before you play mission 7, practice a bit with the 66 Kes and the APILAS in the mission editor. That way during the mission, you can shoot and scoot against the armor. Oh, and you can kill the BRDMs at virtually point blank range.

Mission 8, either get control of the .50 on the jeep, or run into the barracks that are on the right as you drive into the camp.

Some of the missions are very very .. tricky, but can be beaten. Im playing with 6thAIRange and got my ass shot more often than anything else. But disciplined and well chosen use of the save/load buttons helped me through so far.

@FDF: Really enjoying the campaign, good work! thumbs-up.gif

Campaign is just great. Tricky and looong missions. Which is good. 9th mission and i'm loosing my hair with it. tounge2.gif Stupid AI groups die instantly or loose their gear in water. And then it's Rambo time. Really need to think and try different solutions on these missions. Some of the campaign missions would rock in coop too. Best campaign out there for ArmA that i've played.

How could I do that ? I'm alone against pairs of armored vehicles and infantry squads. When I launch a rocket on the first one, the second one kill me immediatly. I haven't time to hide...

I didn't really have a method for mission 7. It took me a long time from the check point but I got it done. I basically stayed behind the sand bags and the MG post to disabled the tank and APC's. Since I was playing with FFN mod + replacement it was much more difficult because the crew gets out and repairs the vehicles. I got lucky and picked off the crew members of the tank so I was able to use the big guns to take out some of the troops. Although I had already killed many of them. Before I got in the tank I was over run by a wave of troops and had to resort to sniping from the forest. The rocks and trees provided good cover but I had to move around often. Playing with FFN increases the AI abilities a lot so I had to get crafty and move often.

Luckily I had the tank to use because I never would have finished the mission since most of the armor would be repaired a bit until I wiped out the crew doing the fixes. I ran out of AT ammo because of the repairs made by the crew and the sheer numbers of attackers so I had to resort to using the tank to finish the objective. Luckily I found a dead AT soldier after I wiped out the attackers and was able to blow up the tank to move on. Unfortunately one of the Mods/AddOns I'm using renders the satchels charge useless, I can't place them. So using charges to blow up remaining, unmanned armor was not an option.( I may be wrong here but I believe this problem comes from FFN. I think only certain units can lay satchels.

All though difficult, mission 7 was one of the most fun challenges I've ever had in ArmA. Unfortunately I had to use the cheat to end the mission once I crossed the bridge and killed all remaining enemies. Since I couldn't lay satchels, I couldn't blow up the bridge. Alas, I didn't have much choice.

Mission 8 was tough at first. I kept getting smoked after I exited the vehicle. Then it struck me... When the driver exited the truck I jumped in the driver seat and drove to the corner with the other 4X4's. Then I got out and sniped from below the 4x4's. Surprisingly, there was a few more comrades in the 4x4 that jumped out when I exited and the used the 4x4's for cover as well.( I didn't even see these guys the first few times I played prior to using this tactic.) Matter of fact none of the guys with me at the 4x4's were killed. Therefore I had ample support. Once again though I couldn't use satchels to destory the tank so I had to use M136's and then the .50 cal on the 4x4 to destroy them. I basically just used the M136 to "soften up" the tanks and finished them off with .50 cal's to the turret. Although ample m136 ammo, I believe FFN makes the weapon a one shot deal like they are in real life.(If not FFN something I'm using did this unless BIS changed it in the new patch. I didn't check the changelog.)

As I stated in the FDF thread, this campaign is absolutely fantastic. It's one helluva challenge, especially with FFN, but without a good challenge I get bored quite fast. I've never had so much fun playing ArmA. I'm just a bit sad that I'm almost done with it.

Thanks again FDF crew. I know I've said this about 10 times now but I'm truly having a great time playing this campaign and looking at your units and that incredible island. thumbs-up.gifyay.gifpistols.gif

You should be able to shoot with at-weapons from behind the sandbags.

For the checkpoint part of mission 7, I set up like 20 meters up the hill to the left of the checkpoint behind some rocks. I put a stash of anti tank weapons there. If you sit up there you have a brilliant view out into the fields ahead of you, but you are shielded from the road. I took out the t72 from long range with the apilas, just as it was coming out of the first line of trees in enfilade (the tree line that makes up the edge of a forest, then I think there are 2 other thin treelines with a farm structure between them).

The bmp2 didn't show up for some reason (maybe the t72 exploding damaged it?). I would have destroyed it while it was unloading infantry with an apilas. After that, I just waited around with the 66 kes 88 for the brdm2s. I used 2 rockets on each of them to kill the disembarking crews. I then mopped up the infantry at long range with the heavy machine gun when I was satisfied that there were no more armoured vehicles to worry about, and that there was no infantry creeping up on me from my flanks.

Grabbing the sniper rifle helps for spotting a great deal.
