Fixed dynamic range for 1.45 (works with 1.46 too)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

Since Satchel has been missing for the past week or so, I decided to step up and attempt to get his Dynamic Sound addon working with version 1.45. You will be glad to know that I have succeded, and have posted it at Wright's page.

I have also included instructions for adding your own custom sounds to ofp by editing his addon.

I have tested this some and have found no bugs. To be honest the editing method doesn't really leave any room for error, but if you do find a bug please post it here so I can get rid of it.

I hope this solves all of your woes and makes the transition to 1.45 that much easier. Enjoy!

It was my pleasure gentlemen.

It is very rewarding to give back to the community that has contributed so much to my enjoyment of the game. My hat goes off to everyone who has submited addons or editing ideas so that others might benefit. I believe it is this exchange of ideas and support that will allow ofp to flourish long after it's days of technological obsolecence. Cheers!

Good stuff mate smile.gif

Just a minor bug with the crosshair, the crosshair stays the same when you get into a car as a driver. Shouldn't it change to the simple plus shape cross?

Other than that, I'll post it as news smile.gif

Intruder,

thanks for the heads up, I fixed that bug so now the crosshair will change when entering vehicles.

I have updated the webpage to reflect the revision, and whoever has already downloaded it should pick up the new version.

posted as news....I'm honored biggrin.gif

Thanks guys!

Now, will we need another update for the 1.46 patch coming out today? smile.gif

BTW, I've emailed Satchel and asked him whether he's actively updating the pack or not and I also pointed this thread out to him. No reply yet.

Just to let you know;

If you can't deal without satchel's soundpack, but

with the new bugs in 1.45, you could also stay on 1.45

until the soundpack has been fixed for 1.46.

As BIS said, 1.45 and 1.46 are compatible.

That's only as far as multiplayer goes.

That does not mean that BIS didn't make any changes to the BIN\config.cpp file for 1.46. If they did, then the Dynamic Range fix, which this thread is all about, will have to be reworked.

so since 1.46 is out now ... has anyone tested 2 see if it works?

to theavonlady:

i didn't say that the soundpack would work with 1.46,

what i said was:

until the soundpack has been fixed for 1.46.

You got my point?

OK probably it's another question, if you could connect

to 1.46 servers (without soundpack) by having 1.45

(with soundpack installed).

My suggestion was just for those who like to listen, rather

than to play bug-free (or not bug-free at all wink.gif )

Just got done testing, Wright's fix works just fine with 1.46, so I'll edit the title of this thread smile.gif

well thats great news =)

tho if it installs a new config like i think it does in the new patch wont it have to be edited i mean the sound file?

*edit*

what i mean is .. the new 1.46 patch replaced the 1.45 confi file,, doesnt that mean it edited the config somehow ... and sice the sound confige is useing the 1.45 structure wont it conflict with some stuff while ingame???

or does that not happen?

Yes it conflicts. There are few new features in 1.46 like bigger cargo for Hind and unit picture for cessna. All these wont work if you use Wrights 1.45 CONFIG.cpp file instead of 1.46 config.bin file. It may also cause some problems in MP. If Wright can make an updated version of his CONFIG.cpp file then it should solve the problem.

Two questions/comments about this fix.

It seems to crash 1.45 whenever I goto play a single player mission... I'm trying to see if it's still doing it.

And second of all, how can I change it back to the old crosshair? I can't stand Satchel's. smile.gif

ok fellas,

Lud, I didn't experience any crashes in single player, and I'm curious to know if anyone else has had these.

For the crosshairs, I think I might know how to change those, and I will look into getting two versions put up, one with satchel's and one without.

N.o.R.S.u. and M|N|ON, you are probably right about the conflicts between 1.45 and 1.46. I haven't installed 1.46 yet, so I don't know what changes it presents. The tough part will be finding these changes in the config, as they are nearly impossible to find without some error messages pointing them out, especially considering that the config is nearly 500 pages long. My other blockade right now is that until someone converts the new config into a cpp file, I will be unable to edit it. I still don't know how to do it, so if anyone could shed some light on this it would be great.

My webpage has had over 250 hits since it went up last night, so I know that this is a big issue in the community, and I'm hoping I can get everything working fluidly asap.
