Oh i dunno, its hard to get into the MMO scene so I would strongly advice against it.

And Im not sure if Bi could handle the workload of creating it either at that massive omg 300 vehicles and stuff scale tounge2.gif

they would like have to downgrade the graphics and everything to make it work i think..

Get a supermachine for both the clients and the server and all this can be scripted wink_o.gif

Yes! smile_o.gif I want a MMOFPS in the ArmA style gameplay.

A massive and persistent world; and as a helicopter pilot transporting troops or equipment to the battlefield with large number of helos in flying together escorted for gunships pistols.gifnotworthy.gif

The whole concept from OFP to now has lent itself to an ideal that no one else has really done:

1) Have the ability to log into dedicated servers as they are now and play community modded missions.

2) Keep the single player aspect.

3) Then, for those willing to pay a quarterly fee, have server clusters set up for MMOFPS/RPG gameplay. Players start off as privates and earn points for successfully following orders and kills. The points can be turned into rank and used to buy better equipment (aka Warfare Mod on a mass scale).

4) Add other islands future expansions that players can transport to and start fortifying for their company (no guilds in war lol!wink_o.gif

That way, everyone gets the mode of gameplay they want. The clan types can launch their servers, there may be a big enough playerbase for competition, the single player types get their wishes, and the MMO types can work on developing a character.

i think its just mainly a technology restriction. Doing things like hit detection for 100s of players would just be too much i think. Thats why so many MMOs are turn-based.

While i'd love to see a MMO that features something else rather than orcs, elves etc that casts spells, carry 1ton weapons and kill real Japaneses ppl by starving them for several days in a row, i guess this thread is misplaced, in no relation with what arma2 is going to be, and thus has no purpose

MMO idea goes totally against what ArmA/OFP are all about, which is complete and total sandbox to create your own missions.  By definition, an MMO mandates a specific game mode and requires that everyone adhere to the lowest common denominator.  That's the very reason I stear clear of anything MMO.  So about turning ArmA2 into an MMO... No thanks. whistle.gif

If you're really after an MMO experience, there are plenty of them out there already. smile_o.gif

This sort of experience can be obtained with a rather large clan. With 30-50 people playing together. 2 Infantry sections, a Armour section, An aviation section and maybe a support section. This sort of conjoined gameplay adds a whole other aspect to the game. I've played in a Joint-Op with 40 people where people were infantry, armour or air support, and broken up accordingly in TS. Being a grunt, I didn't hear specific orders, so when we spotted say 2 T72's ahead, and our officer telling us to halt, and then 3 cobras come flying overhead and destroying the bastards is an absolutely awesome feeling. It's completely different to public gameplay such as Warfare and Evolution. If you were suggesting gameplay such as this, then yes, I would love more of it. So much more realistic and exciting.

Neither the engine, nor the dedicated servers are made for that and will most likely never be made for it - so no of course.

yeah like Warefare is the uber massive scale that almost works like a MMO of sorts smile_o.gif

Im sure people will come up with new ideas or port existing ones into A2, sort of like a evolution mission but pvp / coop would be awesome. smile_o.gif

Playing against another human and beating him is WAY more satisfying that killing some AI thats not going to be sitting at their TV yelling "OH COME ON"

Joint Operations at beginning was 200 man servers which well had it's good points an bad points an i think the same could be said if A2 were that way. I dunno it would be definatly intersting to see but doubt it'll ever happen. Who knows though.
