Calling all Brits!

Recommended Posts

The Situation

One of the most immersive aspects of any game for me - and I'm sure many others - is audio. Numerous sound-mods and voice packs thus far have proved this, and with the release of new addons all the time with fantastic audio features, one small thing is missing.

I'm talking about the dynamic voice packs that have been released. They add so much to the game; having guys yelling out verious things in battle just ups the immersion so much. All well and good if you're playing with American, Russian or Islamic-speaking units. But when you've just stormed a compound with a section of British Royal Marines, only to hear them shout out in thick American accents, the immersion just goes right out of the window for me.

The Request

What I'm calling for is a British Dynamic Voice Pack! Personally, I don't have the know-how to make one myself, or I wouldn't be sitting here typing this - I'd already have made and released one for the Brit players out there! I'm really begging for someone with the relevant know-how to gather up community-made sounds and put them into a pack.

This will only be possible with a huge amount of co-operation from the British Members of the community! We need to get together and record various phrases etc. so that it's quick and simple for the addonmaker to put a pack together.

I'm not saying I can do it, but I'm more than happy to record myself for the good of the commnity  smile_o.gif

To Summarise...

I'm asking someone with the relevant skills and a kind heart to take the reigns on a project like this, and put out a list of how many voice-actors would be needed and a script of what they need to say etc.

I'm also asking people to come forward and post if they would take the time to participate in a project like this. Come on Brits! Show that you're willing to participate! We need an Immersive voice pack!

Thanks for your time, really hope this goes somewhere

Da Rat

I'm assuming you're referring to this here little addon : RUG DSAI ? wink_o.gif Instructions on how to create the addon available right there on that page!

A note on the types of voices that would be needed for the pack to be comprehensive, these are the kinds of sounds the US pack has:

DSAI_BehaviourSounds.h

DSAI_FleeingSounds.h

DSAI_WoundedSounds.h

DSAI_OwnKilledSounds.h

DSAI_EnemyKilledSounds.h

DSAI_MiscSounds.h

DSAI_ContactSounds.h

DSAI_UnderFireSounds.h

There are subtypes here, of course:

BehaviourSounds = sounds for Safe/Careless, Aware, Combat and Stealth. These range from conversational in Safe, to tense in Aware, to out-right shouting in Combat, to whispering in Stealth.

FleeingSounds = Just sounds said when fleeing = true. "Run away ! Run away!"

WoundedSounds = Sounds for when wounded, to be played for as long as the unit is still wounded. E.g. "shit, I'm bleeding". Unimplemented feature with "no-longer wounded", which would be something like "Thanks mate..."

OwnKilledSounds = "Shit, man down!"

EnemyKilledSounds = "Got him!"

MiscSounds = Here's a bunch :

Sounds for throwing grenades ("Fire in the hole!"), reloading, firing weapons ("Come get some! Firing! Open fire!") and leading formations (i.e., you order 4 and 5 to go somewhere, the leader of that formation will say "Follow me!" or "Go go go!").

ContactSounds = "Contact!", "Enemy spotted!"

UnderFireSounds = "I'm under fire!", "Get down!"

One option, incidentally, is to just go through the default American English sounds (Dusan, Howard, RobertPolo etc., found in Sounds.pbo/mission, I think), and record equivalent British ones. That way you will get entries for most of the options above, aside from good ones for Aware and Stealth. But yeah. The Behaviour ones do need to be varied and manifold, since they're the ones you'll be hearing the most biggrin_o.gif

So, it's a big job, but it can be done. Good luck, guys!

Wolfrug out.

Actually you'll need to do that first. Otherwise you'll be stuck

with the American accented voice when commands are given.

That Dynamic sound mod doesn't change those.

So, "da rat", are you taking on this project now that it's been

explained to you how to go about it? Otherwise it'll get

consigned to the "addon requests" thread and composted

with all the others.

I'd be interested in such a thing but I have my work cut out

enough as it is trying to make addons (British, as it happens,

so I'd eventually have to try a small voice replacement

scheme myself if none such exists by the time the addons

are done).
