ArmA2 - The Xbox 360 thread

Recommended Posts

@JW Costum: This is possible and easier to do on a console as EVERYONE is playing on the EXACT same hardware. Solving the problem on one console, should in theory solve it on ALL the consoles.

Doesn't change the fact that people with decent computers like C2D 2.4ghz cpu, 4gb ram, GTX9800+ are experiecing low performance. So if ArmA 2 should get watered down to the level where it can run smoothly xbox i don't see the point in doing it at all.

Like i've stated before, i really hope ArmA 2 never reaches xbox! I'd rather have BIS concetrating on pc gaming.

If maybe if you stop complaining you will get results .. this company was set up to make money from games not games for PCs , all i hear is, console will dumb down game, i want this and i want that ,game will not run on console , grow up please , stop being a little kid that crys when their toy has been taken away ....

first of all you play arma2 , so whats your problem ?,BIS will continue to make games for PCs , whats the problem?, you wanting the game to run smoothly, when it does stop complaining, you care about yourself and games companys making games to suit you , BIS does not belong to YOU , let them do their thing and you will be rewarded , ( is BUGGED the same as DUMB down?)

be happy with the outcome .....

I saw a article a few days ago reporting that Microsoft has blacklisted a load of xbox360's due to modded information held on the device. I was just wondering if this would then cause a problem to any 360 users wanting to add mods to the Arma2?

But many gamers modify their consoles by installing new chips or software that allows them to run unofficial - but not always illegal - programs and games.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8354166.stm

On a side note, it's nice of Microsoft to just randomly scan all 360's for illegal/unofficial software and banning live accounts without prior notice.

Yes, with OFP:Elite you must have a modded xbox if you want to install mods. I could even install mods for the game Morrowind, they were slightly modified PC mods to run on the xbox. The xbox360 is a jail compared to the xbox1, of course they didn't like the piracy part, but they didn't like the homebrew and the running of thirdparty operating systems on the xbox. I can boot up Linux if I want to, and XBMC is a godsend to the extemely limited OS that comes with the xbox.

Some people even mod their xbox memory capacities, or add USB ports. :p I just add a 320GB harddisk instead of the standard 20GB one. MS rips people of with slightly modified 5400rpm HDD's, and ask a pretty high price for the hardware. Bummer that the potential of console are severly hamperd by both commercialism and piracy. :(

Naturally I don't like consoles that much, I find most of the games sallow and non challenging. However this sounds like it could potentially destroy ArmA2 360 before it has even been launched :/ (or the community based mods).

I think all console users wanting ArmA2 on consoles should stop procrastinating, buy a pc, get ArmA2 and support Bohemia
If ... big if .... IF BIS states that it 100% sure WON'T DO A 360 VERSION. Yes, then i would agree.

Now, would you not agree it is up to BIS(!) to make the situation clear once and for all!!!!

I have no problem whatsoever with no-console-version. But don't blame console owners for asking a console version when BIS let's the door open for speculation!

I said nothing about pc's, care to explain what you mean?

*Added*

I would be interested to hear a mod or dev members point of view about the blacklisting of 360's for unofficial content and the effects it may have on Arma2 360.

If there wasn't a Pc version of arma2 how would you based how shallow a xbox 360 version could be , you are judging from what ? the Pc version ...

Most if not all xbox 360s were banned because of being modded to play copied games , if and when arma2 is released on console it will only have official contant from bohemia , thats if you wish to use xbox live , i do believe there are other places where you can use xbox 360s to play online .

i think also it would be better to have the same contant for everybody on the xbox live as more ppl would be able to play together (joining games etc ) , ....

Ok, I think you misunderstood me, I wasn't implying ArmA2 360 would be shallow and non challenging, I was saying that my experiences with other console games has been. Other then the god like GTA3, but that was built from the begin to be played on a console.

My main concern regarding the 360 and ArmA2 is that any mods made by the community (which most are, judging by the pc community), wont be able to be used due to them being classified as unofficial data by Microsoft. Thus destroying one of the biggest advantages ArmA2 has over any other game.

Do you know there is a community game section ? just room for thought , you never know what is possible :)

I hope that there is otherwise that could be a lot of potential content missed out on :(

Maybe now that it has been mentioned, if BIS were ever to make ArmA2 360 then they would arrange for user content to be added and hopefully wont charge for it.

the, AFAIK new, community section could be a great way to get new usermade content on the 360, although I don't believe MS is that easy on allowing something to make that list, nor would the be easy on usermade content from PC onto the xbox.

But even without mods ArmA 2 is still a great game, and would still give the best online experience to have on a console.

BTW, usermade missions ARE possible on the xbox 360 and you should be able to share those!

The things is that MS is a bit scared of what usermade content could do to their consoles stability. It would even be possible to create some virus which gathers credit card information from the consoles. The x360 isn't made to protect you against such invasions as it shouldn't be possible with only Dev content.

But why do some ONLY-PC people think that we don't play the pc version? Or that the only good way to play it is on the PC. Get out of that tunnel-vision and admire the horizon.

If your playing the pc version i can't see why it's so important to get a console version :)

Well i can only speak for myself. There's games suited for consoles and games there's not, i don't think ArmA 2 is suited for a console.

I'd rather have BIS using all their man-power working on a pc verions than working on both pc and console version.

I find it kind of absurd this this has been going on for 13 months...lol

Face the facts: ArmA2 is not suited for a console, its barely fit for top of the line PC hardware...I do not think ArmA2 on consoles is likely...maybe a different game like ArmA2, but not ArmA2

Wow, I just saw this:

http://cdon.no/spill/arma%3a_armed_assault_2-6969892

Since it's in Norwegian, it says that 360-version is out 1st of December. I haven't seen any statements about this and can't find it on Amazon either. So obviously a blunder on cdon.com's part, but was it a blunder because it's nowhere near release or because they published it too soon?

Still no news I see.

I'm still optimistic that BI will give Xbox 360 gamers the chance to play Arma 2 or something similar.

Keeping those fingers crossed in the meantime for a co-op shooter with a mission editor.

while i am a PC gamer (i own a PS3, used that 2-3 times only), i would really want to see BI porting A2 or OA for xbox360 = greater income, slap on CM face etc etc

BUT, is that feasible? Not sure..A2 is one of the most demanding games released (yes, in my opinion is more demanding that crysis), especially on CPU side of things, as well as streaming data from HDD. Not sure how and if BIS would be able to pack all that and make it work on the aging x360...

True, the point is - how did it end up on their website? It's not like they're trawling through this forum and figures "hey, maybe the 360 comes soon. Let's photoshop something and put it up". They got this info from their distributor and again - it's not like their distributor is browsing these forums...
