Hosting LAN games

Recommended Posts

Hey there everyone

I now have two computers at my disposal so I would like to play some LAN games. However when I log on to multiplayer and click host I can't see the game in the other computer. Why is this? Please help!

Basically this situation is different because one pc is a laptop which can be brought downstairs with our third pc (mac) to use wireless internet, the other is a desktop which stays upstairs, out of range of net. However I have a second wireless network which I can connect this laptop and my upstairs pc to. Sound complex but I basically want an internet free LAN connection

I have made sure the IP address and the port is the same on both computers: 92.22.122.67 and port 2302. Then I host a server on my laptop but I doesn't show up on the upstairs PC. I can't even host a server on the upstairs one! I don't think it's a firewall thingy because I done every thing to stop it affecting Flashpoint. Help me please! I'm clueless and it seems like I've tried everything! banghead.gif

Try clicking on "remote" and putting in the LAN (192.168.*) ip. I'm unsure if it will show up in the server browser over a LAN.

Afraid it doesn't make any difference. Not sure really whether to use LAN or Remote to set up the game between an offline network between two PCs

It does make a difference if the box doesn't allow broadcasting, might still be able to connect with remote. Do other games find the host? It's almost certainly not a problem in the game but the way the network is configured or a firewall (soft or hardware).

Also, be sure to have same protocol on both (direct play or sockets).

Yeah I'm starting to think it is a problem with the box: It is a wireless broadband router but nevertheless it is a cheapy SWEEX one for my local 'TRAGO MILLS'! I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between LAN and remote anyway? Still not working.

LAN Is Local area Network, and unless you have a stable network setup, you aren't in a LAN.

Remote is where you select the IP you type in, and it searches for that specific IP.

so If you have a network set up, you can simply look for the IP address (It starts with 192.168.x.xx) and type it in.

You can try with Internet if you really want to play, just look on whatismyip.com/

And put that into your Inernet/Remote for that IP.

Yeah, I don't think it is a 'stable' network which I'm on. Because just wirelessly connecting the two PCs to a router doesn't make it a stable network does it? Because I can't access anything on my desktop PC from my laptop or viceversa like on a stable network.

It doesn't seem to work when I use remote on both PCs and enter my Laptop's IP address (which is 92.22.6.226 but changes now and then for some reason) and port 2302 into them. I have also tried using the router IP address of 192.168.55.1.

I'm having some problems setting it up as a stable network but I'll just have to keep trying that for the moment.

You can use a program called Hamachi to play on LAN, thats what me and my friends use when we want to have our own game but I think the free version only supports 12 people or so confused_o.gif

Well Hamachi doesn't work well on my laptop and my stupid old XP doesn't seem to like the general idea of a network. I mean I can connect them both to the wireless router but I can't see my XP's files or anything from my Vista. I don't think this is a proper network is it? I should probably go and find out how to make this network work before I keep trying to host a LAN game on flashpoint.

Hang on peeps, running both multiplayer LAN games off the same disk doesn't work does it confused_o.gif . Because that's what I've been doing. I've only got one copy of the disk and Flashpoint runs without the disk on my Vista Laptop anyway for some reason . I mean it sounds like I have genuine network problems but I was thinking this might be a problem??? huh.gif

Anyway, if I don't mind buying another disk if I have to because I'd rather not use a KeyGen or whatever those things are tounge2.gif

Thanks peeps

SOLUTION

Excellent news peeps, I'm playing LAN and really enjoying it. Thrashing my brother is awesome. I had a serious disability to connect to a network because I had removed Norton Security Centre ages ago but not done it properly. Thanks to the amazing people at Techspot I was able to find this out and use the Norton remover tool and just like that the whole network worked properly. And because I have v1.96 I can play without fade. Excellent news. Thanks for your time but this problem was a very specific network problem. LAN & coops forever! yay.gif
