BTW: Once you have your own house you can also buy a lab - accoring to Moira it's for mixing your own chems. As I haven't bought it yet, what can you do with it? Produce your own medications (stimpacks, Rad-X, etc.)? And do you need to buy/find 'instructions' like you need for the 'home-brew' weapons?

Lab is good for de-toxifiying yourself (healing addiciton). The one time i tried to make a potion it told me to wait 24hrs until it´s done and what i got was a bottle of purified water, meh :-/

No change of ingredients or taking influence in the process.

Exploding pants is awesome! Tenpennys head fell right off his balcony and i already feared it would alert the guards, but they didn´t bother .. seems quite hard to find good personal in the wastelands biggrin_o.gif

Seems like it's as worthless as the workbench (free to use at Moira's and also found in several dungeons), as the lab costs way over 1000 caps (due to my bad bartering skill like 1700 caps for me), while healing the addiction at the good doctor's place costs just 50 caps... Pity, I really liked the potion making part in Oblivion (best way to make tons of money easy).

One question is it normal that every 30mins ( feels like 30 at least ) the Talon Mercs spawn right in front of the door of whatever building or tunnel i just left?

Kinda annoying to get out and have 5 of these firing at you with rifles from a few meters.

Even had it once that i left a metro tunnel and 5 of them were waiting but then started to fire at someone else ( didnt saw it because they were up the stairs ) and once everything was calm i walked upstairs just to find out what killed them were roughly 8 Super mutans with 4 of them being Mutant beastmasters or whatever they are called in english versions ( the guys with faceshields and heavy weapons ).

Took me quite some stimpacks and grenades to not end up dead.

I get those guys every now and then, mostly just in the wastes, though, while I'm exploring. I countered them by going to Tenpenny tower and assassinating Tenpenny myself. And then I killed everybody in the tower, just to be sure. pistols.gif

I had to save and get off then, so I don't know if that's going to stop the mercs from attacking me.

On the first encounter with Talon they told me that someone thought i was doing too many good things in the wastelands and how im not supposed to mess up their lives and whatnot ... some pistol shots later i´ve got myself 3 pieces of good armor lol. So i was rather thankful for their occassional apperances. Also when you get Rileys Rangers armor you can fix that up using parts of talon armor.

Pretty sure you can avoid them by gaining lots of bad karma from the beginning of the game. Then again it wouldnt surprise me if another group gets contracted to kill you for doing so many bad things biggrin_o.gif

I actually like having them on my heels - 1-2 grenades, a few shots with the combat shotgun and voilá: 3-4 pieces of shiny combat armor (used to fix the one I'm wearing since I first encountered them), good weapons and a few stimpacks richer. What's there to complain about?

wink_o.gif

I think Mr Burns is right: if you get too much bad karma some other fraction will be after you, so you'll have to learn to live with them. As I haven't gone to Tenpenny Tower yet (but also had the suspicion that they were responsible), I'm also curious whether it's possible to void the contract on yourself by killing the guy who paid for it.

BTW: has anyone broken into Mr. Burke's house in Megaton yet? It's 100 lock picking skill (or is there a key somewhere?) to get in there, but is it worth the effort? I've heard difficulty doesn't nescessarily translate into content...

Hat, glasses, iron, 10mm rounds and sawed off shotgun. Waste of time.

Very nice game so far. The intro sequence was something special.

I´m currently sticking my nose around the old metro and have found the family. Looks like I´m addicted or something like that as I get the "shellshock" - vision pretty often. I also ran across one of those supermutants and killed it with the chinese officer sword tounge2.gif

So far it´s a great game imo. I have issues with gfx pretty frequently though. The lower section of the monitor gets messed up. Looks like overheating of card but once I alt-tab out and back in it´s gone. Pretty annoying though.

Yeah, either try to stay 'high' or go to the doctor in Megaton to heal your addiction (50 caps iirc). As long as you just take one dose of a drug (apart from stimpacks) at a time and wait until way after it's effects end before taking another dose you should be safe from addiction. Just use them with care.

I assume you play the PC version? Stability is the one reason I'm happy to play on a console. Although the console versions are reported to have quite a few issues, too, I haven't encountered a single bug. If only Bethesda hadn't cut out the PS3 from future DLC I'd be very happy indeed. But who knows - in the end Oblivion got it's GOTY-version that included most of the DLC previously only available for PC and 360 (I actually preferred to play that game on the console despite having it for the PC, too), so maybe I'll get lucky afterall.

I still dont get it. One of the reasons why OFP/ArmA (&Oblivion) stay so long on my HD are Mod´s and the possibility to toy around with addons yourself.

Now that i´ve looked inside a .bsa file for the first time i see many similaritys in the file structure to ArmA, which is good, because it makes things easy biggrin_o.gif

Mods are fine and dandy, but I have long work days (often up to 12h), and with those my patience with software and hardware issues (despite being a developer myself) has shrunk to near zero. I don't have the time (or nerves) for all that shit anymore. There came a point when I was so fed up, I just went and bought me a console - and I haven't regretted it for a single day.

The cost for the console hardware and the few games I bought (including some like Oblivion that I already owned for the pc) was less than getting a new gaming pc or updating my old one. And as the next ArmA and OFP releases will be multiplatform I don't see any needs to invest in the pc anymore. Since my company provides me with a personal notebook, I might even throw the old rig out completely and save all costs for a private pc. After all the only pc games I played during the last year (Fallout 1 & 2) run fine in a virtual machine, so no problem there.

For me playing on a console saves time, nerves and money - which contributes greatly to my enjoyment of actually playing the games. I'll rather waive the chance to use mods for that. It took me months to play through Oblivion, Knights of the Nine and Shattered Isles on the console, and it was pure fun with no technical issues at all.

Still enjoy Oblivion after more than 100+ hours or more that i spend in it because there are so many mods that change the game so much.

Hopefully Bethesda brings a SDK for Fallout later.

Apart from that i couldnt play too much this week but when i was able to it always ended up in a "lets play some 40 mins and then get to sleep" and went to "What! 2am already?! Damn i gotta get up at 7am!" ^^

Btw, about bugs, maybe im just lucky but Fallout 3 runs better than any game i saw this year in its unpatched version.

So far i had one place where i had soem ctds i went away from there because it seemed a wandering trader that came near me somehow caused it ( with a black suited buisness man in front of it... odd ) after that not one single ctd or anything else that i would call a bug.

With oblivion you can spend that time on a single playthrough even without any mods. I think It took me about 140 hours to play through the original game and the two expansions (Knights of the Nine and Shattered Isle). But then I explored almost every cave and really tried to be thorough. If I get 2/3 of that time from Fallout 3 I'm more than satisfied.

@Daddl: I seem to understand why more and more people are choosing the console but I´m afraid that some programs will not make it to the console. Those hardcore sims I like do not have that mainstream audience. No offence ment but I guess it will be those 2 different worlds of PC and console for a few more years.

Apart from that I use the computer for work aswell so gaming on the same rig is just a handy coincidence smile_o.gif

@Fallout 3: I love it smile_o.gif

By accident I was crossing the river in the outskirts of DC when I ran into a herd of supermutant guards guarding the river. I guess this was one of the toughest fights I ever had. I am Level 6 now and was really, I mean really short on ammo. What a blast. The last one was sacked by my chainsaw. Incredible game.

The details are great and the overall impression of the world is awsome imo. It´s scary to sneak around and the fights are tough. I guess I better troll back to more peacefull regions. biggrin_o.gif

Fantastic game. I love it. I have minimized the gfx-bugs by deactivating HDR and Bloom. Now it only happened once during umm...err...6 hours ? crazy_o.gif

If you like RPG/FPS games get it.

Edit: Typo

...btw,

I had a really scary moment today when I was in the metro somwhere. A female raider ran up to me with a sword and the moment I killed her I realized that she was goddamn pretty. That was the first time that I felt "sorry" in a computergame that way. Weird.

Edit2: ...and no, I did not undress her tounge2.gif

The moment you start calling a handfull of pixels on your monitor screen a hottie is when the whole thing gets scarry. XD

Raiders are fun. Easy to kill and lots of ammo. Just nade them, grenades work perfect on them (and allmost no other enemy).

I am on my second playtrough and the game is really difficult.

I decided to play as mercenery type and basically resolve all problems with fighting as I progress...

Went to Robotech factory, was not able to reprogramm the robots (unlike the last time). Luckly I was slashing my way in with a sword to save ammo, but even then when I was back at the exit I only had 10 .32 rounds on me and on the way I actually killed a few robots with a sword to save ammo. crazy_o.gif

Now I have 15 .32 rounds and next quest ahead.

Not having lockpick is rally making the game a hardcore experience - most ammo you get is from those locked crates and if you cannot open them... goodnight.gif

Hehe noticed the quite good looking Raiders also, for a odd reason they got prettier females than the rich people in Tenpenny tower for example.

Pretty odd when you think of how hard life in the wasteland must be.

Currently im looking for the Vault tec HQ and it seems im too dumb to find it after i went treough all metro tunnels i find.

Seems the marker doesnt really show me the right way this time.

At least it seems im not alone with this tounge2.gif

I'm currently on my way to Rivet City - still haven't followed dad to the radio station, but doing the Wasteland Guide quest on Rivet City's history. Unfortunately it'll take me until Sunday night or even Monday until I can continue playing - friends, family and social life sometimes really, really get in the way of important things!!!

 crazy_o.gif

Ah well, at least I can play some Fallout 2 on the train ride... Probably going to clean out the Wanamango mine or rid the world of Metzger! wink_o.gif

Yeah, true. But some are pretty dirty.

Yeah, this smuggy colour is not suntan. smile_o.gif

Riley's rangers on the other hand are clearly outsiders, they have lots of resources and pay really well. They also look very fresh.

Sweet game. I can actually get immersed! Beats most games I've played lately.

Ok, enjoying a week off I'm now 80 hours into the game and haven't progressed further into the main campaign than talk to the good doctor in Rivet City - and only because I bypassed the GNR mission by stumbling upon her doing the Wasteland Guide missions. Great fun so far - I'm at Level 16, done a ton of exploring and many, many sidequests - right now in Oasis, just about to decend into the caverns to end Harolds live (or not - I haven't decided yet), maybe I'll do Fort Constantine (allready aquired the keys) or the Head of State mission afterwards, or Agatha's violin search, or the GNR mission after all... I have like eight major missions active right now and still find more for each I finish - damn it's so hard to decide!

True thats one of the best thing son it that always makes me play far more than i planned at first.

So far im at Lv23 and just changed my Enclave Tesla Armor for the TB-51B Power Armor that you can find in a certain place, its the Power Armor from Fallout 1 & 2 and looks bit different from the later models the BOS now wears in Fallout 3.

Also Fawkes guards my back with his gattling Laser ^^

Saddly i think im as good as done, not too many sidequests left ( only those that i can do with bad or neutral karma ) i think one more and the Take it Back mission will come up.

Btw, does anyone know what happens to a companion after a certain organization kidnapps you?

Does my companion still wait there or is he back in the place where i found him?

Guess easiest way is go to the Citadel and see if Star Paladin Cross is there again because she carries some of my better stuff.

And some screens:

Actually i was closer to the end than i expected... Just finished the game and once more i get the usual effect, awesome game and a mediocre ending sad_o.gif

I noticed that it adapts to the way you played but not in a way that all the lil things i didnt really mattered which is odd because i was hoping for a end like in Fallout 2 where they explained to me in detail what happened to many characters and regions.

Wasted potencial saddly... leaves a pretty bad aftertaste after i enjoyed the game so much sad_o.gif

I found the death of Liam Neeson really a huge anticlimax. Like, what, this huge spectacular engine capable of reproducing an atomic blast with faces that could be capable of showing emotions and they cut him off without a proper cutscene?

gah...
