General Barron's Handsignals system and fwatch

Recommended Posts

Hi, folks,

I've installed General Barron's Handsignals system addon as a mod folder (@hs), with the pbo's in @hs\addons,  and have also installed Kegetys' fwatch program, as well. However, I have found that there is no difference in the addon's use running with or without fwatch. I'm also not seeing the keybinds working as I've expected while running fwatch (GENB_hs_controls.cfg is in the correct directory; e.g. TAB does not bring up the command dialogue). Is my problem running the handsignals pbo's in a modfolder? Anything about fwatch I might not be doing right? Here's the shortcut path I use for fwatch and the handsignals addon:

"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\fwatch.exe" -nosplash -nomap -mod=@hs

Just to be clear, the Handsignals system looks like it's working properly, just not the keybinds that are supposed to work via fwatch. Any help would be appreciated - I'm trying to eventually get the full handsignals system up and running with the voice recognition program, Shoot!

Thanks!

It's been quite a while since I used fwatch with HS.

Have you put the GENB_hs_controls.cfg file into your "Operation Flashpoint\fwatch\mdb" directory?

What does the end of your GENB_hs_controls.cfg file look like?

Yes, GENB_hs_controls.cfg is in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\fwatch\mdb

and the end of the file is as follows:

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">

----------PLACE KEY BINDINGS BELOW HERE----------------------------

TAB="dialog"

F1="squad"

F2="team1"

F3="team2"

F4="team3"

F5="rto"

F6="watch"

F7="rush"

F8="retreat"

F9="move_map"

F10="halt"

F11="change_signal"

F12="cancel_orders"

BACKSPACE="root_menu"

-----------END KEY BINDINGS-----------------------------------------

Thanks for the help!

Edit: Another thing I've noticed: the transparent command dialog can be called up with the middle-click on the mouse, whether or not I've started OFP with fwatch. I'm under the impression that that dialog can be accessed only with fwatch. Is that right?

I've just tried it out myself and it works perfectly.

That's what I did step by step:

Extract the file GENB_HS_core.pbo to \@HS\addons

Extract the file GENB_HS_sounds_English.pbo to \@HS\addons

Extract the HS_template.intro template mission to the <Ofp root directory>\users\<my username>\missions\

Extract the fwatch files to the Operation Flashpoint root directory

Extract the file GENB_hs_controls.cfg to <Operation Flashpoint rott directory>\fwatch\mdb

Create a shortcut to the fwatch.exe on my desktop

Add the parameter -mod=@GB to the fwatch shortcut

Start Ofp with the fwatch shortcut

Load the HS_template mission on Desert Island

That is not correct. You only need Fwatch for the keyboard shortcuts. For the dialog you need the needed classes in your mission's description.ext file.

Check out the template mission and the readme...

Thanks, Nepumuk,

I re-installed everything, following your steps, and still the keybinds do not operate as expected. One thing I thought of - what OS are you running? Do you think my problem could be fwatch and Vista not working together properly? I receive no error messages, so, this is just a guess.

If this is the case, it's really too bad, because I was looking forward to running this command system with Shoot! a great deal.

Edit: One other thing - I just tested fwatch by using the race mission and received an error message: "fwatch not detected".

I did install it according to the directions - any ideas? Thanks!

That is a possibility. Perhaps you can get a statement from Kegetys if you contact him.

I know nothing about Vista; is there a compatibility mode like there is in Windows XP you could try?

That looks like it worked! I had forgotten about XP compatibility in Vista - thanks for the reminder.

I was able to play the race mission and get the keyboard shortcuts to work in the HS_template mission - they still don't work in the tutorial, but I guess that's just how the tutorial works.

Thanks, again!

I hope this helps someone else, too!  yay.gif
