7600GT to 7950GT or 8800GT

hey fellas, i'm currently running a:

AMD dual core 6400+ 2.41Ghz

Asus M2n Sli Deluxe

With 2GB RAM DDr2

obviously 7600GT card..

I wish to increase ram and get a better graphics card.. I have enough money to go up to £150 on a card.

Can anyone help with gettin a new card?.

The 8800GT without a doubt. I cant imagine why you would want a 7950, unless to save money, but that is a false economy...

I have a AMD X2 6400+ but it runs at 3.2 ghz. Why you run yours at 2.41 ghz?

Maybe you have powersave settings on and when you look in system properties its saying 2.41 ghz?

I chose the ATI HD3870 myself thats what I use.512mb DDR4

The 8800GT does sound tempting from many people, but hear it has had problems with arma?.

I've found some great deals so far with 8800GT costing under £100

But not sure for my new games like Rainbow Six vegas 2 and assassins creed...

As far as i am aware, the 8800GT doesn't have any problems with ArmA... Mine certainly doesn't

The 8800GT is based on the G92 GPU, but the older series of 8800 GTS (320MB and 640MB) and the 768MB 8800GTX and 8800 Ultra, which all run on the older G80 GPU, had some problems with fog in ArmA i belive..

8800GT is definitevely the best card in terms of price versus performance - especially if you are counting on playing other new titles. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Assassins Creed both run fluidly with an 8800 GT

Edit.. Didn't even read the part about the 7950GT - if you are upgrading from a 7600GT, there is absolutely NO sense in buying anything in the 7-series, 7950GT included. I personally went from a 7800GTX (not to far performance-wise from the 7950GT) to a 8800GT and the performance increase was simply phenomenal.

Also worthwhile to mention, a powerfull graphics card just won't do the trick if the rest of you're hardware can't follow up. So you need an adequate CPU and enough RAM to prevent bottlenecks in your system. This shouldn't be a problem in your case though

Since BIS fixed the issues that DX10 cards was seeing with the 1.09 Beta patch I would say it's a no-brainer, today I would get the 8800 GT 512 MB card!

That being said there was a time when the 7950 GT was IMO a better choice due to above mentioned issues...
