LastNinja9 0 Posted March 31, 2008 I really hope you include full 6DOF TrackIR while in planes/heli in ArmAII. In all vehicles for that matter. It just makes it so much more... REAL. It could be optional of course (enable 6DOF). (Maybe this is a better place to post this)
mr.g-c 6 Posted March 31, 2008 Could you please explain whats the difference between the current Track-IR support in Arma and this "6DOF" you talking about? And is it worth to buy for Arma2?
LastNinja9 0 Posted March 31, 2008 So that you can move your head sideways and up/down. The way it is now, you can only look around. Arma now only supports 4DOF TrackIR. This is what I mean ___http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4MYm9Joeuw (...about 7 sec from the start) TrackIR is essential for flying/driving. Without it, it's like writing a letter without a keyboard. I can't praise it enough.
gonk 0 Posted April 3, 2008 6 dof full time... just to allow you to get your height just right when trying to look/shoot out of windows/bunkers..
LastNinja9 0 Posted May 9, 2008 I hope they make the aircrafts hud with the same kind of "parallax effect (?)" seen in that video. More important, all dot scopes (aimpoint, eotech), should have that effect. There are some addons, trying to do this, but apparently it's hard to get it 100% working as it should. Anyway, I hope it's already in Arma 2. pls... show us some updates, even some random screenshots will do !
bravo 6 0 Posted May 8, 2009 The idea of 6DOF to be implemented in ArmA2 is very beautiful and shiny, i myself truly would like to see it in ArmA2 general vehicles. But just think a bit about this: Most Simulators witch allow this kinda feature, 6DOF that is, do not actually have a pilot design or draw inside the Vehicle like in ArmA2. For example watch this video. ArmA1 and ArmA2 have a pilot (model) designed or draw inside the Vehicle, we can see our own body while scanning with our head. What would happen if you had the 6dof and you were able to move freely inside that restricted space like in most of 6dof Simulators we know?Yes, we would see our body static while our head could move freely apart from the rest. It wouldn't look natural. What I'm asking is how would you do correctly to look natural? This question is related to many other possibilities we would have and would answer a lot of questions already in the air. Its nice to only suggest but its also important to think about it a bit and consider if would look natural or possible to achieve such goal. Is there any good suggestions to make this possible and natural for ArmA2?
sk3pt 0 Posted May 8, 2009 Yes, we would see our body static while our head could move freely apart from the rest. It wouldn't look natural. I'm using Armalib for 6DOF support in ArmA, and I don't have an issue with that at all. In fact, the 6DOF is practically flawless.
bravo 6 0 Posted May 8, 2009 hum... do you have a demo video of that? I would like to see, please.

Hyp3rdyn3 10 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) That is exactly what I was hoping for in the latest ArmA2 head tracking video. Edited May 8, 2009 by Hyp3rdyn3
bravo 6 0 Posted May 8, 2009 Great! If that already exists why are people concern about it, right? ;)
.kju 3245 Posted May 8, 2009 armalib does not support A2 at this point of course ;)
sparks50 0 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) The Armalib 6dof requires scripts in mission+ is kinda bugged I hear. Edited May 8, 2009 by sparks50
bravo 6 0 Posted May 8, 2009 of course. But using the theory that everything is easily converted to ArmA2, i think that makes point valid. hihi:D
roberthammer 582 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) OMG That is exactly what I wanted in ArmA2 TIR. Damn i will love that armalib :D btw must get track ir somewhere :) Edited May 8, 2009 by RobertHammer
kegetys 2 Posted May 8, 2009 the theory that everything is easily converted to ArmA2 That does not necessarily apply for Armalib since it is not an "ordinary" mod/addon. Of course I dont have Arma 2 (:() so I cant say how hard it might be to port it.
Jorge.PT 10 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) Does that mean I can finally look over the grass when lying in the ground? Edited May 8, 2009 by Jorge.PT
roberthammer 582 Posted May 8, 2009 Does that mean I can finally look over the grass when crouched? Maybe :p
mikebart 1 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/03-enhanced-games/enhanced-games-all.html This list on the Naturalpoint website advertises that Arma 2 does support 6DOF, i know we didnt see it in the latest video, but maybe it is supported. Could be a mistake? Edited May 8, 2009 by mikebart
lecholas 2 Posted May 8, 2009 BTW for anyone interested you are able to try 6DOF arma (via armalib) with FreeTrack as well.
EDcase 87 Posted May 8, 2009 BTW for anyone interested you are able to try 6DOF arma (via armalib) with FreeTrack as well. How? I got it but can't find how to get it to work... (Freetrack works fine its just to get all 6DoF that I can't figure out)
lecholas 2 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) Just run FreeTrack (with TrackIR output enabled) and Arma with Armalib and run one of the mission examples provided by Kegetys (it's named sarasample6DOF.sara.pbo). You'll be able to use some vehicles with 6DOF. If you unpack the mission (it's pboed) you should see (with basic knowledge of mission editing) how to use it in your mission to enable it on other vehicles. Edit: Ah! I forgot to say you, of course, have to 3-point clip (or cap) to be able to use 6DOF (not a single LED model), but I assumed it's obvious. EDcase 87 Posted May 8, 2009 Thanks lecholas, Yes, I'm using 3 point model. Ah, I didn't know it had to be activated within the mission. I'll have a look. Thanx
bravo 6 0 Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) That does not necessarily apply for Armalib since it is not an "ordinary" mod/addon. Of course I dont have Arma 2 (:() so I cant say how hard it might be to port it. Now i understand why you said "it is not an "ordinary" mod/addon". Only now i could try the 6DOF mission example you have made for ArmA, its really impressive. Too bad its not considered an ordinary addon. Well i must tell you that this 6DOF experience is a very nice addition to the simulation feeling in ArmA1 and it would be for ArmA2 for sure. Would really be nice to have this in ArmA2 as vanilla feature instead of having to configure it in each mission we create in editor. I know the time is not in favor but in a future patch this feature should be as a must for the good sake of a better Simulation feeling. @BIS, please, look at the Kegetys ArmAlib 6DOF simulation and the respective . Take it into consideration Edited May 11, 2009 by bravo 6 Added links.
Hyp3rdyn3 10 Posted May 11, 2009 The new ka-52 cockpit is also crying out for 6dof with its chunky frame that can block the horizon in a forward flight profile.
