Everyone: Please do not link to the page in question.

@ArmaAddons

So, it's not about that service? What else then if not about creating addons for money - which is exactly the purpose of your site.

it's purpose of that site, and it's my site. but it's not allowed to be discussed here.

This topic is about possibility for addon makers to get money out of there work. See the poll above ? It's actually purpose of this thread to see if paople want to pay for new content

I want to and I will - at my game store.

I will only pay for addons that exceed by far the ones I can make myself. And this includes engine changes and tweaks ArmA2 will offer.

Apart from that the best of modders will never ask for cash, so I don't think any medicore moder has a chance of starting his "bussiness".

And I also don't belive in donations for someone else's work. Everyone donates one way or another - whether by his work for community or just donating for servers, or in some cases both ways and even more.

If you want to support a mod - help hosting a server.

Of course not, he's the big mysterious man. wink_o.gif

No one will ever know who's hiding behind a second account - which btw is forbidden by forum rules.

I'm sure he has a good reason for that...

Its total BS.

If you want to propose such a service, then do so "legitimately", dont hide behind some 2nd account.

Also, the arma-addonz.biz site is total BS, hosted on a free untraceable server, using other peoples content to advertise your "service" (without initial permission I might add) just further hurts the "cause".

If anyone is stupid enough to pay this guy for addons, they deserve to have their money stolen.

And so far according to that poll, most voters very much disagree.   Pay to play addons is exactly what the ArmA DOESNT need right now.  What it needs is people who are highly skilled in ArmA addon making and who are willing to create better tutorials.  OFP had a great community, some of which has moved over here to ArmA (while others prefered to stick to OFP).   If the ArmA community continues doing what was successful in OFP, then it will get stronger and prosper.

My hope however is that ArmA2 will not require everything to be reconverted again in the same confusing manner as OFP addon conversions.

At any rate, I agree that this thread is just plain stupid.

Now one alternative is that someone may pay an addonmaker to make something with the requirement that the addon be released free to the rest of the public.  So in that way its kinda like a donation to help smooth the path for addon projects.   However I'm not sure about the legal aspects of this.  That would have to be looked at by BIS.

It should also be noted that someone tried this once in OFP and Codemasters went after them with their lawyers.  Not only that but the pay to play mod was crappy and it failed miserably and did not attract skilled addon makers to their mod.   If you want to make money with your addons, your best bet is to contract with BIS or companies that do contract work for various nations using VBS2.

But honestly, if your stuff is amazing and they have a need, BIS will contact YOU as they did with several of the best addon makers in the OFP community.

Otherwise... be prepared to face legal attacks and be outcasts in the ArmA community.

no offense but id suggest that there are many ways to make money even easier ways in some instances but us paying you to play a video game sounds like some major bullshit if ive ever heard any.

edit: on top of that your business would be such a drag because as soon as you make an addon or business someone else will do the same thing for cheaper until the price is driven to the ground. so, you can try it but all you will accomplish is taking off your bad camoflauge and have a neon sign that says "bum" pointing you and many others out. i honestly feel offended because some people think this is a good idea. where i come from, you have to work for your money and earn your respect.

Heck.. people are paying for a lot less than realistic 3d models of military equipment, like pixel graphic furniture in Habbohotel or 'gifts' in Facebook so why not addons?

I'd pay, if the system was sorted out properly and the quality would be worth the money.

Maybe then I'd finally get to see a full WWII mod.. *sigh* wink_o.gif

Edit: Giving some reasons for my choice. The way I see it, the community is pretty much in the mercy of the skilled addon makers and what they decide to do. This leaves a huge gap in the areas of interest to be covered by someone else and in the worst case by no one. At least this way the less popular areas of interest could be covered too.

so MK1 your saying your money is more valuable than your time because with time and effort you could learn to make addons maybe even better than the guy your paying, for free. instead you would rather not excercise your brain and give your money away just for a video game. :::::::yawn::::::::

Well, as it is, not everyone has the time, the will or the skill to learn addon making, especially with Arma. I tried it with OFP and never finished anything, although I did manage to get some stuff to a alpha stage and it took years. The only reason I took up to learn something was that I wanted something particular for missions I was making, not for the sake of modelling itself.

Thankfully, we have people who do both modelling and missions.

Well, I guess I'm also the guy who would rather hire a company to renovate my house rather than doing it myself.

After all, if someone knows how to do something well I see no reason as to why not use his services. Isn't that what most people do for their bread and butter anyway?

I'd be really happy to see BIS release quality addon packs (QG quality not being good enough) set into difference military scenarios. That would give a lot more space for creativity in mission making and save a lot of hassle. I still have around 20 OFP missions and 2 campaigns on my hd simply waiting for "that one" addon that would make the particular mission complete.

These addons would only have limited value, as not everyone will buy it, it will be hard to play with online, would need to have skills to make missions for it yourself etc. These addons wouldn't be good for much except bragging in combat photography threads. Also in the course of OFP (and hopefully ArmA/ArmA2), most important/common/unique weapon-systems were portrayed, so why pay for something you can get for free?

customer is kind of a sponsor in such situation wink_o.gif . If he wants to publish an addon - he will.

"Armaaddons" was already told via Email by Marek and myself that a paid addon service would not be acceptable. He was allowed to make this thread because then he (and others) would get a sense of community opinion, sometimes it's better to allow something contrary to be said so that there's a chance for opinion on the matter to be left as a matter of public record.

There is of course the possibility that a company would wish to buy from us a commercial license to use our tools to create a commercial product, but this is not something that's available to any Tom, Dick or Ivan.

Unfortunately it would seem that Armaaddons/Bdfy broke the cardinal sin of not creating duplicate accounts on these forums and as a result both accounts are now permanently banned.
