Uhao island

But im more worried about the playability, lag and bugs on the island

than about the QG's objects; the island looks great to me for what

For sure - we are still working on bugs fixing. It's not easy, because island is quite large and has numerous of objects like trees, buildings and other stuff. OFman do a 100% of work to release it without minor errors.

About lags. We are testing it on few machines and at beta stage we achieved about 25-50 fps with normal details on mid-end PC. But optimization is still in process. OFman cut a lot of tress to avoid abrupts fps drops. Don't be afraid - we work hard, especially OFman, because he's islandmaker smile_o.gif

Noo plz dont make it QG required or so. Btw, maybe u could add also some bigger towns... how much villages/towns there will be like?

We want maybe to use it for SLR smile_o.gif Some very popular MP Role-Play map. But we really need much villages/towns/maybe cities for it smile_o.gif It looks so great that everyone wants it for SLR but we are just not sure if there will be enough towns/roads etc.

Me and my team can't wait for this island, since we all miss scenarios on islands with think jungle - and we are tired fighting in deserts/temperate areas. Nicholas Bell did great work on his "Bluefield" map (reached only alpha state) and that was the first map with extremely great looking jungle. We understand that highly detailed and huge maps with loads of trees can't work well on low-mid range PCs, but islands like that could be very small due to very limited 1st person visibility (3x3km is enough).

Islands like that could be small with maybe just 3-5 settlements and lonely cottages, abandoned woodwork factories, ruins, etc. Hopefully Wedge from IC will create one day a jungle island, because Barbuda and his Training Isle are most excellent work we seen so far.

One guy also released a beta of Sahrani converted to jungle, but I've heard that it lags way too much. It is obvious since BIS would make it like that in the first place if it wouldnt lag :]

I'll hold back with comments on Uhao from now on, since i'm drooling too much when I see all the cool WIP shots :P OFman - we all love what we see, so please stop hurting us soon, thanks :-]

Hi, what i miss in ArmA (aside of relasim and less bugs...) is islands

like Tonal for the OFP, really large islands with very few towns and

villages here and there plus a pair of airports and maybe a pair too

of improvised runways in the middle of a field for small planes narco

style. Im againist small islands because i like the Long Range operations

where you've to fly many kilometers to reach a safe LZ to aproach

to the target or to the AO; i preffer the large islands because there

you can recreate better how to do the things and not just small

firefights arround a single target, after a while... it becomes boring

to see how the AI drivers can't reach the marked waypoint because

of the island's shape (trees, bad placed roads, or just the AI behaviour)

which use to end in boring missions or unplayable missions due

to this. So i hope that Uhao be big enough as for fly low as hell

in my UH from one place place to another and that the AI's don't

find too much problems to drive the APC's or MBT's arround. Let's C ya

Hi, that's what i do NoRailgunner, i await for the island; i haven't

critizied yet this island and by the screenshots... i doubt that i'll

ever do it, i just was telling IceBreakr why i preffer really huge

islands ratter than small islands. Because on theose we could use

all the vehicle classes, tanks, choppers, cars, planes and APC's.

Is good to have some small island for firegights or CTF's, but is not

that good for coop missions because you can't use all the required

vehicles for an assault or infiltration mission; same for a CS&R one.

So that's all, im awaiting for this island as quiet as i still awiating

some addons; without bore too much the makers. Let's C ya

wipman: I agree, but I was talking about islands with very high density of vegetation (s.a. jungle) that is not possible to be playable on all from minimum to max spec PCs. Another reason is that ArmA is a good simulator of infantry and much less of all other stuff (air/armor). Usually we're already happy if we have grunts, artillery and couple of hueys/littlebirds smile_o.gif

Looks good, can't wait to see it released.

I'd personally throw my voice behind QG items being added. I personally find QG to be a great addition to the game (I prefer setting up scenarios on United Sahrani more than other map now) and don't really understand why more people don't buy it.

I've got QG, it's great. But it's a pain if you want to make missions and play with a unit, cause not everyone has the money or is dedicated enough to buy it. So quality islands such as this without the QG tag are a blessing.

Hi, those screens from that MP Test look very good, i just wish to

have already the AAV7 that HMMWV is or was doing to put my dear

Johnn's USMC v1.5 inside and do some good MP mission in there.

And about the QG... i know why more people don't buy it; they're

disapointed with the ArmA and they don't want to pay a single dime

more for something that don't really adds that much, that haves many

bugs and that will never be updated/patched. But it's a good buy

if you want to be able of play with any or everyone. Let's C ya

I see a lot of open ground areas on couple of shots. Those are beaches, right? Because it will be enough hard to not get sniped from hills high above you :]

OFman i have a few questions..

Did you use the "sil" roads in your map?

if so:

do you have the correct sounds while walking on them?

edit: from one of the pics you have posted recently, looks like you used a layer near the roads, maybe to simulate the sounds?

Those beta test pics look great. Nice open areas, plenty of sniping positions in hills, I guess those early far away pics made it hard to see the open ground and get a feel for it.
