UKF NEWS

A New Year

We've been typically quiet as late, and with a small server incident this has begun to breed rumours of our demise, our abduction by aliens, or our well documented world cruise with Jeff. Fortunately, especially in the case of the latter, these are unfounded. We are still, as always, plodding along with our work in our own time.

So what has been going on in the last few months behind the doors at UKF? Well, we've made progress with quite a number of projects, mostly still in O2 and buldozer however. Among these is a completely reworked and remodeled infantry pack by Chris, who's fighting the joys of organic modeling to bring us a comprehensive set of British infantry units for ArmA. Jeff is playing with MAN trucks, and Swift and Benny are continuing their sterling work on the CVR(T) series of vehicles. Orson, as ever, is working on his Warriors, and he's continually impressing us with how far they've come since the OFP release.

However, a few major addons recently begun their life in ArmA, with help from RKSL with the configs, and have been seen roaming amongst the villages of Sahrani. Amongst these are Messiah's Land Rovers. It is certainly early days, as we have planned a large and quite ambitious pack, but we feel these will introduce a varied and useful selection of British vehicles into ArmA. Currently planned are:

  • Land Rover TUM (Wolf)
    Desert, Green, Green/Black, BATUS Versions
    Soft and Hard Top Versions
    FFR (Fitted for Radio) Version
  • Land Rover WMIK
    Desert/Green Versions
    GPMG, HMG, GMG Weapon Systems
'TELIC' Version (Older model with older kit)
'HERRICK' Version (Current EWMIK model with current kit)
LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) Version
  • Land Rover Pulse Battlefield Ambulance
    Desert, Green, Green/Black Versions
  • Land Rover Snatch
    Desert/Northern Ireland Versions

This list is of course subject to change and doesn't take into account the various different versions that can be created in the mission editor by adding or removing kit on the sides of the Land Rovers. The model has been built, altered and rebuilt numerous times over the last year, but finally we think we're getting close to what we want to achieve. Needless to say they will enjoy a full compliment of normal maps, specular maps and of course the odd easter egg here and there (High poly, normal mapped Lilt can anyone?)

Anyway, as you've been a very patient bunch over the last few months, we have some very early screenshots of the WMIK's being put through their paces. There will be a video at a later date, but for the moment you'll have to make do with the stills. Please bear in mind that these are only just BETA status. They are extremely naked and clean, and still have a lot of things to be added and altered. The troops and the weapons are our old DPM 2 pack from OFP and the ported UKF weapons. Don't get too excited.

It looks awesome, but i might be a little biased. biggrin_o.gif

Seriously though, Messy has put so much work into the WMIKs, and knowing how much work has been going on behind the scenes, it's been very amusing to hear of rumours that we'd absconded from the community, or split up entirely. Guess a few people will be a little disappointed, but hopefully most of you are glad to hear from us! biggrin_o.gif

And that is clearly visible too.

The colours are excellent, they also match the troops dpm perfectly. The WMIKs look ready to go. I mean if you see the pictures you can allready imaging jumping in one and doing some serious 4x4ing. biggrin_o.gif

Still got same little point and that is that the tyres could be a bit darker perhaps.

I assume you are just ignorant of the UK and not just attempting to be facetious.

In Britain we drive on the left hand side of the road, which means right hand drive cars.
