ProfT, I also love that you have added bayonets, however I was thinking more of a "Group Fix Bayonets" command like found with the excellent (biased) P:UKF SA80 series.

I just have visions via a group command script (SOS for example) of an advance to contact into no-man's-land with bayonets fixed.

Nope, cause i won't modify the main config.bin (and the cfgmoves) to enable a compatibility of the mod with others. And it makes stabbing harder, which is quite realistic, and fair for AI.

yep, i agree with this, i know these scripts because we modified them for Civil War Mod, but i'll include them only as a "mission maker feature" (such as the gas attack), which allows mission makers to use a "group, fix bayonet !" action if they want, or simply use units with bayonets already fixed.

N.B, the Vickers in the last link (the P.S) is a 1950 addition, which has features not commonly found on WW1 MG's( the belt system, muzzle flaring, sites) ; But thanks anyway.

Speaking of MGs. Since WWI tactics included their use as a indirect barrage weapon with artillery aiming methods, I wonder how that could, theoretically, be displayed in OFPmatters. I´m really impressed by CoC artillery system and remember playing a SEB Nam mission where the player had to defend LZ x-ray with a radio calling in arty strikes. I really like the recreated method.

Indirect MG barrages were made with MG batteries.

In one recorded mission at the Somme a british 10 gun battery shootng at a target zone some 2000 yards away during an allied offensive. The rapid fire was maintained for 12 hours consuming 999750 rounds (one particular gun shooting more then 120000), 20 gallons of cooling water and all obtainable urin tins. German counterstrikes were constantly broken in their concentration zone alone. Such indirect MG barrage were a killer in WWI, a tactic not used at large scale in WWII. The impact of thousands of bullets raining soundless down at an instance at a nearly vertical angle was seemingly a nightmare.

I too have already an idea for a missio, when Prof Tournesol will finish his mod: Experience the fate of a runner messenger running from a rear HQ to the frontline during a preliminary bombardment of all calibres...

I'm glad to see bayonets being added. The way that I would force the AI to use bayonets would be to add a trigger just before there position to remove there ammo. I know it is quite a simple solution, but it allows the user to enable charges, where the AI switch to bayonets once they reach the enemy's position.

Prof Tournesol, I hope you don´t mind that I post my thoughts an ideas regardless of the progress your work. This is not meant as a negative critic on the WWI mod, but just as comments, which may be used as ideas for future versions. Sure I´m happy if it will help you.

Just to continue:

The german "Tankgewehr"

This was the very first light infantry anti tank weapon.

Produced from May 1918 on, it was the a relative quick answer to the allied tank thread, especially since Cambrai 1917. With a cablibre of 13mm it resembled an oversized Mauser rifle with a pistol grip as a single loader. Ca. 16500 were produced and a fair amount was distrubuted among frontline units. It was wielded by a two men team, one carrying the gun, while his comrade carried most of the ammo. In reality, the two had to exchange each other, since the recoil was very heavy, bonebraking and the gunners complained of dizzyness and headache after a few shots...

Armourpiercing was good for those times at 25mm of armour plate at 50m (at 90°) with 785m/s. Enough for several british Mark Modells. The bullet just pierced the armour and a number of

hits were needed to put a tank out of action. Question was the right tactic, as at that range the team was vulnerable for tank escorting infantry. It is said tat 1% of all disabled allied tanks were put out of action by te Tankgewehr.

At least the gun was a morale booster for the tank threaded german infantry ("Tankschreck") and the allied tankers had a high if unnecessary respect for that weapon, which, after the war, was along with a 13mm MG prototype the base for the US Browning .50.

In OFP terms, I remember the LIB mod displaying the russian PTRS very well. I really lke the idea to experience tankhunting with it in the WWI mod. Interesting would be to display the shock when shooting... crazy_o.gif

@ diggin.robat : very interesting information. Maybe for the next release... Tanks are very effectively engaged by infantry (grenades, flamethrower), field artillery, other tanks and AFV (Mounted MG and tanks armor are designed to allow female tanks vs female tanks engagements). And no, it doesn't bother me at all that you post ideas.

By the way, people thinks that the most bloodies fights were fought in western front, like Verdun, Marne, Somma etc. They're right, thats true, but most of people in western Europe don't know much about eastern front. For example one of most forgotten battles of WW1 is battle of Åódź. I live in Åódź myself, and I don't want it to be forgotten.

@ Igor101AD : no problemo with talking about the eastern front. I don't borrow anything from Lib Mod, the anim comes from CWmod, originally a UKF mod one.

@ diggin.robat : a very nice addition would be (after this release, hey !  ) to work on the Palestine / Turkish / East fronts. I'd like to make some colonial infantry...

Erm, should I re-post this thread with the 18 pages and 268 replies compressed onto one page? Just that this mini-mod seems to be the largest thing that is happening on flashpoint at the moment, with all the developments sprawling across the forum.

WW1 Mini-mod

The WW1 mini-mod is a modification of Operation flashpoint to bring the Great War to the operation flashpoint world. The mod has been made by ProffT, with the help of Spad and other mod-makers, to make a simple, easy to use, WW1 modification which includes: Infantry, Armor, Artillery, Aircraft, Trucks, Gas and a ‘WW1 Island’. The mod has no campaigns or extensive missions in the Beta stage, but campaigns should be witnessed in the WW1 mini-mod. The WW1 mini-mod includes infantry units from all major combatants on the western and eastern fronts. The infantry units include machine gunners, riflemen and snipers to form a real repisentation of a WW1 infantry unit.

Scenery

The world war one island is a small island which has the appropriate opposing trench systems. The island also includes no-mans land which has a destroyed village situated in-between the two lines. There are also areas of forest, destroyed and undestroyed, along with various undestroyed villages. The Mod also has gun-emplacements and two ww1 aerodromes.

Gas

The modification also includes gas attacks and gas mask scripting. Every infantry unit has a gass-mask and is capable of being able to be effected by gas. When a player puts on a gas-mask, there view changes and is heavily restricted.
