realistic weapon sights

Hi everyone!

Dont get me wrong, the sights themselfs are quite realistic in arma, its more that your (two) eyes are not simulated realisticly. That makes close range combat feel "unnatural".

The sight as they are now block your view way too much because you only aim with one eye open.

If simulated correctly (two eyes open) there would be one slightly translucent weapon view aiming down the sight, and a second slightly translucent weapon view that is more to the right of the screen showing the left side of the weapon (for a right handed shooter).

But imho that would look stupid tounge2.gif

So my suggesting is:

Make the rear sights (also reflex sights etc.) semi translucent to simulate shooting with both eyes open for more natural weapon handling!

And by the way:

Remove the zoom in the sight weapon view!! the 'zoom in' key is enough!!

I've been thinking a lot about the sights.

When I first heard about Arma and it's 3d sights, I assumed that when aiming we could only move the left hand with the mouse and our character's body would stay stationary, (perhaps his head should turn with the sights so it'll feel natural). I think that would make shooting more realistic because the sites wouldn't be automatticly lined up, something that I feel makes Arma too easy.

I'm not sure how it would play in game though. Obviously you wouldn't be able to only use the sights when in CQB becuase you could turn around, so most people may not prefer this.

I dont care so much avbout the both eyes open thing as much as i would LOVE to see grenade launchers like M203's Sights able to be flipped down when not using the M203.

But more so, having the ability to raise and lower the weapon to align the leaf sight when using the M203, to choose the distance indicator used.

Translucent rearsights is not such a bad idea. Considering how we focus on the front sight, the rear sight goes out of focus. I think it does that today also if a certain effect is turned on (post process?), but I think translucency would be even better.

However, make it optionable, with controlleable amount of translucency for every player to choose. Same goes for unit selection background translucency as well...
