AI kept shooting at static weapon

Recommended Posts

Along the same lines, a tank/shilka/car whatever that is enemy but without its engine on cannot be locked onto by Mavericks and Hellfires.

I consider that a flaw in the game design. Sure running armor makes a bigger heat spot but a parked one is still plenty thermally distinct for the imager to pick it out as a potential target.

And I'm sure you've seen a fellow teammate get in a UAZ in multiplayer and his nametag shows red but he's clearly on your team.

Enemy fire on a US soldier in a UAZ well beyond the range where they could determine FoF.

yesterday i even got shot by my own sides a.i's crazy_o.gif

I tested a mission i was making and just randomingly flying around and messing about and i spotted a uaz patrol and i attacked it but came to close to the ground but managed to slow down enough to not get blown up, so i evacuated myself from the crashed littlebirdie and saw the uaz stopped next to me, i crashed very close to it tounge2.gif and i ran for cover behind some nearby rocks and turned round shot the disembarked troops down and stole their Uaz ( anyone know if it can be scripted to do a GTA move on enemy cars while there is a enemy driving it? ) and drove back to base to get a new chopper and rearm my rifle. anyways when im at the gates to the base i get gunned down bu the guards tounge2.gif

I dunno , maybe they got angry at me for crashing their chopper or they thought i was a enemy... mad_o.gif

It makes perfect sense from a tactical perspective. Think about it. Destroy the weapon, it can't be used. Simple. Same with tanks and so on, they'll destroy the tank so it can no longer be used, as sometimes AI will try and get back into a damaged vehicle, so remove the vehicle, they can't get in and kill you with it.

No it doesn't make sense, in real life soldiers don't waste their ammo and firing at empty MG with rifles..... In arma they spent alot of ammunition on empty things, then when enemy contact eevryone is OUT of ammo.....

I find the way to stop your mates lighting up an empty vehicle is to keep identifying it (e.g. right mouse button) until they realise it's empty (and the identifying marker should go from red to white)

They're only shooting at it because they don't KNOW it's empty. Thus, tell them.

The reason you got lit up, Commando84, is because the AI have difficulty ID'ing when a friendly unit is driving an enemy vehicle, for much the same reason. This can look somewhat realistic (in real life would you start shooting if you saw an enemy-model FAV driving towards you at distance?), but, anyone who's jumped in a T72 and then been liquidated by friendly armour or air support will agree with me.

The AI have trouble telling when a unit such as a static weapon or car is empty (when it has been recently used by an AI, or at distance), or when the operator(s) is/are dead.

This AI-recon-bug (static weapon empty/friendly/foe: yes/no) should be fixed asap!

Using of groups to attack city or sth. else (with static weapons) from different directions/places.... will be better/improved/more realistic.

Nope, that's not crazy, that's the way the game was designed.

If you repeatedly attack your own side, the AI will think of you as the enemy no matter what uniform you're wearing.

I've never gotten shot at by the AI's because I was in an enemy vehicle. I have had because I was escorting a high ranked officer in Evolution (he set the group's side somehow) and I have been targeted by the AI as a "TK'er".

Real live officers and NCOs have to do this, soldiers are often trigger happy it is part of their operant conditioning, it is down to the officer to learn to control them.

In real life they often will keep firing on a target long after it is dead, I can point to several videos on the web but will not do so here as it is against the rules. There are also several rescent contractor incidents that show how bad fire discipline can be when there is not a proper chain of command and command and control. sad_o.gif

Calling me Fanboy to dis my argument because I just tell them to use disengage is somewhat lame. sad_o.gif

Sadly Walker

It's just that AI doesn't know that it should conserve it's ammos. Firing half of ammoload could be reasonable, but after that soldiers should start to look at their lowering ammos (and drop their firing rate) and inform to their NCOs/officers that:"Hey! I've used half of my ammo and i have only one AT-rocket left, where i can get more ammos".

Many times in missions i've faced this problem. Whole company fires almost all their ammos (expacely AT-stuff) to static M2 HMGs and cars. Yeah it sounds freaking nice when powder is burning from over 100 weapons and RPGs for something like 20 minutes, but after that when they should repel counterattack (which is conducted by armored vehicles)... I think you quess what is going to happen. wink_o.gif

It's not problem with players squad, but overall it's limitating factor in big scale missions, altough it can be countered relatively easily.
