mathias_eichinger 62 Posted October 18, 2007 Hi all! Since I have got ArmA, I wonder if the SLA camo is fictional or if it represents the camo of a real country. I have in mind that the OFP Resistance had real-life Swiss and German camo... The camo can be seen here, this is a screenshot by Raptor from the Photography thread which shows the camo very well. What do you think?
celery 7 Posted October 19, 2007 My first guess was almost too easy. I put 'czech camouflage' in google pics and the Czech 60's camo pattern looks very much like the SLA one. http://www.omahas.com/catalog/images/products/CLG1688lg.jpg
Beagle 674 Posted October 19, 2007 It always reminds me of a pattern i've seen in Portugal in the 90's.
Wiciu 0 Posted October 19, 2007 I think that is Czech Vz 95 in diffrent colours http://www.henrikc.dk/camouflage/details.asp?autono=
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted October 19, 2007 It is modern Russian Splav M21 "les".
mathias_eichinger 62 Posted October 19, 2007 Seems that Col. Faulkner has found the closest fit. Good to know that with the SLA one can represent real-life Russians without the use of addons. Thanks!
Shadow NX 1 Posted October 19, 2007 I think Wiciu is far closer with his guess as it really matches the SLA camo if you change the colours.

You are wrong, Russian troops don't use such camo, 3-colored camo is approved by general and field army regulations since 1991.
Shadow NX 1 Posted October 19, 2007 Youre wrong there, at least Special Forces often wear the M21 Les which looks bit like Nato Woodland but with brighter colours and slightly different arrangement. For normal troops however today Flora is the camo of choice even if you still sometimes see VSR among troops like the Marines.
roberthammer 582 Posted October 19, 2007 SLA camo is mix of Czech old camos + nato = SLA uniform
tirramissu 0 Posted October 19, 2007 3 colors: green, brown and khaki. No black.
mathias_eichinger 62 Posted October 19, 2007 Erm, tiramissu, what kind of camo is that? Definitely not the SLA one as it lacks the black.
Sevan 0 Posted October 20, 2007 tirramissu's image is of the standard Russian camo pattern.
Grodin 0 Posted October 20, 2007 To quote a major ofp character "They drive russian tanks, they use russian weapons but they fight like..." and so on
celery 7 Posted October 20, 2007 To quote a major ofp character "They drive russian tanks, they use russian weapons but they fight like..." and so on "They fight like... I've ever seen anything like it!" Even a game character notices that there is something wrong with the AI.
NoRailgunner 0 Posted October 20, 2007 Mathias_Eichinger it's fictional - like the story of Sahrani and missions, campaigns.
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted October 20, 2007 It is copied from the suits the aliens were wearing when they crashed at Roswell.
mathias_eichinger 62 Posted October 20, 2007 Ah, ok I was just curious if the stock SLA units could realistically pose as someone else. Thank you all for your input!

Col. Faulkner 0 Posted October 20, 2007 Ah, ok I was just curious if the stock SLA units could realistically pose as someone else. Â Thank you all for your input! I don't think anyone (apart from the original texture artist) really knows what it's meant to be. I still hold to the idea that it's BIS' attempt to portray the Russian Splav pattern, though. Notice how badly they managed to mess up their portrayal of the american ACU as well.
Shadow NX 1 Posted October 20, 2007 SPLAV is a company that produces army material and not a camo name. Its always great to see how things have to be discussed to death even if the answer was already given. Its a fictional camo and seems to be inspired from the one Wiciu posted before http://www.henrikc.dk/camouflage/details.asp?autono=98 Somehow it makes sense if Czech devs use a Czech camo as inspiration, no?
