UV Editor?

Recommended Posts

I'm slightly getting the hang of o2 now. But now I'm starting to texture... I've used a couple tutorials on how to texture, but its not what I'm looking for... I know I can texture by selecting faces, then going to face properties and assigning a texture.

But! I have seen textures files which look like the addon has been flattened, with one big texture that textures most of the addon.

I have loaded up the BIsoldier then looked at the UV editor, and it shows a wireframe of the addon, but flattened. Whenever I load my addon (simple ammo crate) its just one big square with 4 vertices's

I have a tutorial on how to UVmap for 3ds max but thats no good.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have tried searching the BI forums but no luck. Maybe there is something but I might not be looking in the right place.

Cheers.......

Most of HQ addons including bis models are mapped (and modeled too wink_o.gif) in 3rd party applications. Try 3ds max, Unwrap 3D etc.

It is perfectly possible to UV unwrap in O2. I'm in the process of writing a tutorial about it, but it's hard to explain without the aid of a video, which I'm trying to put together.

I was taught the technique by someone else, so being a honest person, I'm waiting to make sure he's kosher with me rewriting his technique and releasing it.

he's a nice bloke, so hopefully he'll say yes

by cunning mind and tricking it into letting you do something it didn't intend.

its a really simple process to be honest, just a little labour intensive at first until you get the hang of it and it becomes second nature. I'm in no way saying its easier that the 3rd party tools that have unwrapping inbuilt, it certainly requires some effort on your part.

like I said, it depends if the guy who taught it me allows me to pass it on.

I'm sory messiah but what's the point of not sharing something so important like unwrapping models with o2? As u know that's not the spirit of this community...

I make all the stuff in xsi, so i don't use o2 for that, but i'm sure there's duzens of plp here waiting for that light in the end of the tunnel..

About the tutorial, there's some nice free tools for video capture with sound included. let me know if u need some links for it, i have them at work.

it's not my decision at the end of the day, and thats as far as I'll discuss it.

The spirit of the community is to also have respect for the people who teach, give or do things for you. If he says I can't pass it on, I'll respect that decision.

Hopefully you can release that video. Making textures piece by piece is getting somewhat frustrating smile_o.gif.

Can someone please explain to me how keeping secrets from the community is "in the spirit of community"? What you're describing aren't the rules of a community, they're the rules of a secret society. Esoterica does not belong in a modding community, period.

Ah yes, you've uncovered the brotherhood of uv editing, my congratulations to you.

Quite frankly if it needs explaining, then its not worth the effort. I've explained my position and my reasons and thats pretty much the cut of it for now. Respecting fellow members is the mainstay of any modding community, and also my own personal opinion. I'm sorry if this apparently makes you angry, but thats certainly not my problem.

Must dash, it's my ceremonial hood and cape fitting session, and then off for whips and harmonic chanting around the bath of blood.

Hello,

There were already some discussions about UV Editor. Some beginnings of answers were found :

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=68008

I began writing a small tutorial to show what I found, but it's trial and error so I don't know if I was searching in the right direction :

Messiah, could you say if your method is quite like mine or if I was totally misunderstanding the stuff ?

Regards,

Chris.
