Mtn Goat 0 Posted September 28, 2007 Okay, firstly, I'm aware there are stickied topics up above that I could have posted in - I just want to start fresh with a new thread, that's all. And I can't be bothered to go into every one of those threads and post at the same time lol. Here's my list of suggestions to the ArmA 2 team at the BI Studio. Some of these suggestions would have been said many times in the past, and some of these could be new. I understand it's not "easy" to implement all these into your upcoming title but nonetheless I hope you'll like my suggestions. Thanks BI Team. MISSION EDITOR: - Have a list of all the commands that can be used in the mission editor and their functions + examples (like a command reference - only you don't have to ALT + TAB to look at such a file). - Have it so that it's possible to create .sqf, .sqs, etc. files in the editor without having to ALT + TAB and create a file in Notepad, etc. - The ability to create your own "sides". So you could create your own side called "Cobras" and create your own infantry classes and give the classes their own weapons, camo, armour, etc. - Allow stock missions to be editted and played around with (good for replay value). - Allow a campaign creation system which allows you to merge several missions together into one campaign. - Have several "sample" missions. PEOPLE: - How someone flys a helo or drives a tank depends on the person you're playing as. If you're playing as a crewman, you will drive a tank great - if you're a soldier and drive a tank, you'll have less skill (so your driving for example will be more stressful in some way, etc.). - Civilians, etc. are able to wield baseball bats, etc. they find in houses, etc. - The more missions you play, the more experienced you'll get. - Civilians will scream if there's an explosion nearby, will drive away as fast as they can if they feel like they're in danger, etc. - I think more animals and wildlife. - I think in OFP (not sure about ArmA) ranks only really affected the AI (Private, Colonel, etc.). It would be good if it affected the player somehow as well (so if you're a Private you puff out more faster when running). - AI just don't go prone and that's it when a shot is fired. They'll do things like all relocate to a certain area, take cover, look around, take cover, etc. - AI less predictable. - AI will speak differently via radio depending on the situation (if it's a night covert, they will whisper). - When the officer is really close to his friendlies, he doesn't use the radio - he just tells them by mouth (it's stupid to just tell them on the radio when they're like a metre away from you). - Allow them to carry a sub-machine gun or another primary weapon (but affects their overall weight). - AI "learn" how you play during the campaign. - Any radio commands we didn't get in OFP and ArmA. - Ragdoll physics would be a nice change. MULTIPLAYER: - Introduce a killcam sorta thing - so when you're killed, a camera will go straight to the person who killed you (in first-person and other camera modes). The good thing about first-person is that you'll be able to tell more if the person that killed you is cheating or not. This feature should be optional by the host of the server. If this feature is on, it will also force snipers, etc. to often relocate - which is a good habit, and realistic. - Some anti-cheat thingy inplemented into the game. <s>- Try and give the player a "world" when he plays online - sorta like WoW.</s> MENUS: - Use some different war quotes that we haven't seen before in OFP/ArmA. I think people are tired of the same quotes. - Have some optional "menu themes" going on. WEAPONS: - Guns can jam, can screw up if they get run over by e.g: a tank, for example (so you can wish you had that trusty AK47)! - The ability to melee attack your enemies. - CQB fighting: kicking, punching, etc. - Realistic reloading (reload sound won't be the same for all weapons, if at least one bullet is left in the clip, have different reloading - as opposed to no bullets in the current clip). - I think try and move away more from Russian weapons (we've seen all this in OFP and ArmA). - Allow the player to have personal preference of how he/she handles the weapon (so in the game options, you can prefer to be "left handed"). - You have to "manually" reload your weapon - so you have to take it out, put a new one in, and cock the weapon. Alternatively you could have keys that "do it" for you - so pressing "F1" takes the clip out, "F2" puts a new one in, etc. - Reloading animations and sounds are different. It's not the same animation for every weapon, and it's not the same sound for every weapon. MISSIONS: - The ability to play all the missions (or some), from the enemy's, etc. perspective. So you could play a mission firstly as West, and win it, then go play as East, and win it. - Introduce more NAVAL combat in your missions! We've all seen Black Ops, ground, air, and tanks! Let's see some sea action going on! - Allow an "arcade" mode for guys that don't like being shot a million times (in other words, hate realism). VEHICLES: - Have the player do things like actually open a vehicle door, smash a window on a locked car, open the trunk of a car and store his weapon in, etc. - In ArmA and OFP, when at the wheel, your hands didn't move but the wheel did. Some hand work would be good! - You can actually pop a tyre and hear the air coming out (I dunno if this feature was in ArmA but it sure as hell wasn't in OFP)! - Move away a bit from Russian armoured vehicles (we've seen them in OFP/ArmA). - You must use a key to open a vehicle. The enemy officer nearby might have a key - so you kill him. Alternatively, you could just smash the car open and "hotwire" it. - You have to use the gearbox in the vehicles. ENVIRONMENT: - When it's Winter, it snows. When it's Autumn, leaves actually go a different color and fall off. - When it's cold weather, the player shakes. Lighting a fire in cold weather will cheer your player up. - Things like barrels can be pushed over onto the ground if ran into, etc. And yeah... lol. Mtn Goat 0 Posted September 29, 2007 Okay, I've just updated the list with about ten or so suggestions. If anyone wants to add their suggestions then just reply and I'll update my original post. But please, you have to be real about what you say - so I don't want any suggestions like "Have a 10,000km squared island" or have "1000 different types of tanks". BTW, I chose to reply to my original post so that this will come up as a hot topic. (Yes, very cheesy of me lol.) Chris
Inkompetent 0 Posted September 29, 2007 You speak of that one shouldn't wish for unreal things and adds this? - Try and give the player a "world" when he plays online - sorta like WoW.' Sure, getting WW2 Online in a modern setting would be nice, but is that what we want to have before they've fixed everything else? It'd take years to develop, and probably decreases the realism a lot and completely removes AI since you need to strip the game of a LOT of CPU-work and data transmission to get the servers able to have more than a couple of hundred players. Lighting a fire in cold weather will cheer your player up. These are the ideas that I doubt will be added because they're either not that great, or just not neseccary. Other than that the other ideas are good, especially the ability to open premade missions in the mission editor. Great for new people.
Mtn Goat 0 Posted September 30, 2007 Actually, you've got quite a point there Inkompetent. And also smellyjelly, I was thinking the same as you as well. Some stuff ain't really necessary, like plants growing for example - that's a feature that'll take a lot of time and yet not everyone will notice it. I try to keep my ideas though consistent and realistic. I'll cross out the WoW one - not remove it though (just to show it's been considered by me in the past). xnodunitx 0 Posted September 30, 2007 I'd go with openable vehicle doors if they served a larger purpose then just eye candy. Say for example, vehicles stopped exploding so you could be safe to open the vehicles door and use its armor for cover in a fire fight, otherwise just leave that to community addons. mrj-fin 0 Posted October 1, 2007 U have many very nice features suggestions what could rly add the feel of realism. It however seems litle bit hard that BIS devs will even notice this kind of post on here.
Mtn Goat 0 Posted October 2, 2007 I think BIS will eventually come across this thread and see it (if they have not already). They've got a suggestions forum - it would be a shame not to read what we're saying. ** LIST ADDITIONS! ** - Ragdoll physics. - Things being pushed over when ran into. xnodunitx 0 Posted October 2, 2007 Some, mind you I'm saying some, not all. Some objects in Arma are dyanmic and do move depending wether or not you knock them over when you shoot/what you shoot with/where you shoot/how quickly you shoot. Its just this rule doesn't exactly apply to infantry, only weaponry and vehicles. I don't know why the didn't make most if not everything dynamic, probably to save time but I hop we see more examples of it in game2.
Mtn Goat 0 Posted October 3, 2007 xnodunitx, feel free to suggest anything to add to the list - the more the merrier! It also applies to everyone else too. =) Chris
hoz 0 Posted October 3, 2007 I'm going to close this topic because if we allow 1 person to create their own list we have to allow everyone. There are nice stickies available which cover all the topics.
