FFUR-SLX 2007 2.0

Recommended Posts

Bug report:

I'm not sure if this applies to FFUR+SLX or not, since I have a lot of Marine units installed, including the ones via the GRAA mod, which I installed separately.

Just in case, I'm putting it here.

When I use the Mission Editor, I go to place a SEF humvee, and the gunners spawn with their legs protruding through the bottom of the vehicle. Both the Marine driver and gunner are wearing the kinds of gear and are of the same quality as the ones that came with FFSX.

These humvees are some of the best ones yet released for OFP, and it'd be a real bummer if there isn't a workaround for this situation.

Its a old FFSXbug. Cause some animations of those addons inherit from OFP classes or something.

@ Oct. 08 2007,15:32)]Are you remodeling and retexturing the faces? For example how GRAA face pack?

Tnx biggrin_o.gif

I feel like strangling you. TBird has converted all the models faces from the rather crappy facestex/llauma heads (As used in GRAA) back to BIS models.

Go play GRAA if you want a bunch of plastic GI Joe/Action Man heads.

Next person to suggest plastic fantastic heads gets a slap with 12 gauge buckshot.

WHAT BLAZIN!

The original BI heads are crap (no offence to BIS), they don't fit the the models, the Facestex2 head is a more realistic shaped head, it looks more human. I suggested the use of them also before the mod was released, I'll be waited for that 12 gauge rofl.gif

I'm just getting the shotgun...

They look like actionman figures. Plus with BIS heads you can still use cutom faces in MP and SP, and they dont look that bad.

Teufelhund1985,

Quote[/b] ]Is there going to be another update on this or can we call this mod finished? smile_o.gif

Please, whatever you, or anybody else does, don't utter such awful thoughts again! rofl.gif

I can't imagine playing OFP without FFSX, and I "shudder" just thinking about its growth halting (not really, lately I shudder because it's getting cold around here, lol).

We should all be very, very, VERY grateful that Thunderbird's as dedicated to this mod as he is. He has taken on a very challenging task, the culling together of the community's best work, and fusing them together into the best OFP upgrade that we can get.

I simply cannot imagine the long hours, dried out eyes, and sore fingers this man has endured on our behalf. I've just started getting into mission making, and my head spins with the thousands of addons that have been made for this game. If he's taking the best element out of this mod, and combining it with the best from this other mod, and then ensuring that all runs smoothly when they're put together, that takes a ton of patience and the willingness to make mistakes in the hopes of making something even better.

In light of the numerous disappointed reviews I've read about ArmA, and then seeing how many people have specifically cited FFSX as being the mod that brings them back to OFP in spite of the fact that they own ArmA, well, I certainly hope that the answer to the question stated above is one that always indicates that progress is being made on something.

I say let the good man take a break when he decides he needs it, and let us do everything we can to try and assist him in his endeavors, after all, they bear so much fruit for all of us in return.

Now in case you missed it, Thuderbird stated that he had to step away from the mod for a bitof time due to having to deal with Real Life Issues. I hope that whatever they are, that they're something that can be readily coped with. And I wish this for the man because, well, why would anyone wish anything different for any other human being on the planet?

I say long live Thunderbird's passion for OFP, because after playing the Call of Duty 4 demo, my head and heart sank at the utter mindlessness of where pseudo-tactical shooters are taking us. Do I complain about how OFP's AI keep doing silly things, such as never being able to sidestep (strafe), that they seem to always pull their pistols out at the worst of times? "Yes," but after playing CoD4 last night I can say this with all certainty: that game is graphically brilliant, yet it's a mindless war-gore porn fest so tightly secured to scripted events that I doubt that the AI is capable of doing much "real" virtual thinking at all when compared to OFP's AI capabilities. That doesn't keep me from hoping that mods such as FFSX can still keep trying to elevate OFP's AI behavior, but games such as CoD4 certainly put it all into a much clearer perspective, and keep me grateful for community members such as Thunderbird.

Whatever we think, this mod was called "final" for so many times already, that it's just a matter of time until some update pops-up. And hey even if it dosen't, it's still better the most of the "Tactical" games out there today.

TBird,

When or if you get back to enhancing FFSLX2007 please take a look into the AI suppression and close combat model, the issues I have seen are:

1. When engaging in close combat <100m I could stand in front of the OPFOR AI for extended periods and no action would be taken against me, also if they shoot, the dispersion values are so high that they will usually miss even if standing 30m away.

2. The suppression values seem a little high where the player/AI are effected for a protracted amount of time when not directly under fire.

What may also help is increasing the default skill level for west/east units, say middle scale, especially for marine/spec op forces.

I went back and tried ECP 1.086 with SLX 1.1 and observed that the AI was better at close combat and the suppression model was a lot less aggressive, also the AI seemed to fall back and drop smoke more so than observed in FFSX2007.

P.S. One thing I forgot to try was disabling the melee combat in the GL3 setting in FFSX, maybe that will help.

I looked at the setting in the SLX_GL3.SQF and noticed that there's discrepancy in the retreat ratios: the stock SLX has a retreat ratio of 1.3 and FFSX2007 has 0.0.

This would attribute to the fact that the AI rarely retreats in FFSX, I will modify to stock SLX and test. Just wondering though if there was a reason to modify it to zero.

Yeah, there was. So the retreating enemy didn't break BIS missions and campaigns. The SLX file is editable to your liking and tastes, so if your bugs are with the SLX settings, just try changing a few settings before posting on the forums, you might just solve your problems without any support from the forums.

Modifying the melee and retreat ratios solved the issue of the AI falling back, but my initial observations stated earlier regarding the close combat model and suppression still hold true, at least for me.

Can't you just put up with the flag? It's such a small issue. You can't say it's for relaism giving the fact that you wanted HYK's ACU's instead of FacePlant which was the more realistic choice.

How about we just give thunderbird a break instead of filling this thread with requests for x and y?

Open the config.cpp and find

class Man:Land

Find

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">extCameraPosition[]={0.25,-0.1,-1.4};

And replace it by

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">extCameraPosition[]={0,0.3,-3.5};

Convert the config to .bin format.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the long delay, I have been quite busy lately finishing a bunch of administrative papers since I made the very difficult decision to leave the military life and join the civilian sector again.

Although things haven't been easy the last weeks, I'm still trying to organize my life a little better.

Regarding the modding scene, I must admit that I slightly lost the thread but I hope things would get better within the next incoming days.

Nonethless, my head is full of ideas and I hope time would be in my side.

smile_o.gif

To be honest, I was expecting to see a completely empty OFP forums but surprisingly and happily, things didn't turn out as I had imagined, heh.

Thank you very much for your ongoing support.

FFUR is not dead... yet.

Sincerely, yours

TB

YAY!

Not dead.

Sort of ironic with Halloween right around the corner, eh? biggrin_o.gif

I'm happy to hear that there's some degree of normalcy coming into your life. I have a friend that's probably going to retire from the Marine Corps in another 5 years or so. I honestly cannot imagine what he's going to be satisfied doing in the civilian world when he returns to it full time.

I have no doubts that you'll excel in whatever it is you take on Thunderbird.

Before I go, try not to feel too overburdened with all of our wishes we've tossed the way of this thread. Although from the sounds of it, it looks like you're happy that FFSX is still drawing all of this attention. The comments here only reflect how connected the community is to this mod, and that's definitely a good thing.

Yours!

Kyle
