victor1234 4 Posted August 19, 2007 Does this mod still exist? I read about it in the ArmA section of the BI wiki, and the description sounded pretty good, but all the links in the article were dead, and a search of the ArmA forum revealed nothing. Has the cooperative effort been dissolved (which would be a shame), or are the various mods which are taking part mentioning this in their own threads? Thanks. mr burns 109 Posted August 19, 2007 afaik G85 was put on hold due to the members being involved in other activities and the lack of tools. Had some 'official' word about this shortly after we´ve intervied them, but i can´t remember who stated anything. SniperSkull, our contact for the hosted website, hasn´t responded to any of our msg´s regarding the page (afaik), also their button has disappeared from our frontpage. Concept & story of the mod were great, but i fear that it´s gonna end up like the first Nam Mod for OFP - me sad

AfrographX 0 Posted August 19, 2007 It was a great concept, but somehow it didn't work. Another lesson about mod-mod cooperation.
mr reality 0 Posted August 19, 2007 Ah shit, i was looking forward to this mod. But some mod teams do take on way too much. Maybe its just a case of the fun being taken out of the game for these members. Or the fact that ArmA isn't that much different to flashpoint and now the excitment of it all has dwindled somewhat. It has for me  .
victor1234 4 Posted August 19, 2007 It would've still been worthwhile to have a huge mod like this for ArmA even if it isn't that much different from OFP. Since it's unlikely such a huge mod could've worked for OFP, and since OFP was pretty good to begin with. Ah well, here's hoping for the future.
JdB 144 Posted August 19, 2007 The bigger a mod, or co-operation of mods is, the more chance there is that it may fail. Different teams and individuals have different ideas of how the storyline should develop, what standards to use, what compromise of realism/fun to use for gameplay. There might be egos on the part of some individuals that drive teams apart, people might feel that they have to take care of an unfairly large amount of work compared to others, might feel that some only are in the mod to be able to say that they are in the mod for the glory while not contributing, etc. (Not saying any of this happened to G85, or that it is in fact dead (no official announcement has been made as far as I am aware of)). Generally a mod has a much larger chance of being successfull if the mod-members already knew eachother before starting the project, preferably even knowing eachother in real life, do not make the mistake of taking on more than they can chew at half capacity, and do something that they really love instead of what interests them (look at FDF and CSLA teams for example). Things like language-barrieres, egos and varying time-zones are deadly to mods.
CanadianTerror 0 Posted August 19, 2007 I think it was just a "waiting for the tools" issue.
victor1234 4 Posted August 22, 2007 So, the tools are out. Who's for starting the mod and getting the website going again?
