Nah, but, what you really should do is just leave the server where a hacker/cheater is. Easiest way to get rid of them, too bad you must end your gaming though...

Damn cheaters, so dishonest, they even cheat in a game. C'mon, get a life mad_o.gif

Best way is a kick and #lock. Dont let them ruin your gaming, its what they want.

If you're not admin that is.

Grin, everyone is giving them just what they want. That is attention. If no one said anything about it i bet there would not half of what goes on. In anycase we just need to work to figure out how to protect the servers. If anyone from Bis was able to let us know how to validate keys or if there will be a key validation server it would reduce the problems in a short period of time. As it is there is nothing we can do. Also the key checks HAVE to be on the dedicated server. Not a client.

Even what a real key should look like, 3 digits to 12 digits. What one is a real one???

about ID (key number) changers

i think STEAMing ArmA may solve this problem as it supports at new games with 'good key' type registering with STEAM ...

for MP it would be saviour ... and if people are against PB ... then VAC2 may be used smile_o.gif

well ... maybe it happen with QG ...

I've seen this happen before, with a good game that died!

If you really want to do something about it the best you can do is disregard them, im not saying that vulnerabilities within the code shouldnt be dealt with, what i mean is dont make things sound worse than they are.

Dont go where you shouldnt go, dont make a big deal out of it, dont advertise bad stuff..

This thread alone does more harm than good, despite the good intentions.

I would advise anyone who posted names to actually remove/edit them.

IP range ban.  Good enough for me.  The ID# based bans are rumored to be beaten already, probably with a keygen.  Need to correlate ID#/name to root (or final) IP and ban that. Best way to fix this is to not let them IN the game regardless of hacks.

Just be glad these guys stick to games.  They'd be behind bars and your tax dollars would be feeding them if they did this in the real world.  Sad people who's mommies didn't love them enough..  tsk.

k. sad moment over. burn them at the stake.

IP range ban ... you mean if someone uses Chello / UPC then ban whole UPC smile_o.gif etc ?

same goes for Deusche Telecom and other ISPs all around globe with huge IP ranges ...

banning C ring isn't enough with such HUGE providers ...

so this option is dead too

btw. be happy about what ? these guys usually use warez copies (no cash to sellers, publishers,developers thus no tax income for state)

then these guys usually sell theirs cheats, cracks w/e again w/o being taxed or paying royalty to developers (use of someone work to generate profit)

You may argue some of sited don't sell cheats, yet they generate profit from advertising which is based upon visits related to cheats ...

good lawyer and 'finance office' may burn them IF THEY want

ID# ban could work perfectly good maybe, if there are database somewhere on central server of all published serials numbers. So for example if they published 1000 CDs/DVDs they put theirs ID into list, and every number that isnt in list will be ban automatically, so partially for ID key changer is fixed, except that they can hack a legal ID from people and that could be a greater problem.

Well, when it is possible to generate new IDs on the fly, don't you think your database with valid ID will get leaked sooner or later?

From my POV there is no reliable method of banning.

It is the same like copy protection - the "heavier" they "protect" the more hassles does the regular paying crowd have (look in the troubleshooting forum) while those with NoCD cracks etc. seem to play untroubled.

Start looking in other areas..... Server admins will know where to look if they have the IT knowledge whistle.gif

Can't they just make some kinda law that allows them to change the stupid cheaters lol get ahold of their info, send them a bill i dunno, something really needs to be done =/

Yup, thus I am suprised how they are allowed to play. Most other game companies have central servers to validate keys to some degree. That would ease the issues a little.

I spent a while logging people playing last night and i can detect objects being created now from outside the game and without being on the server. I think i also have figured out how to tell who really did it. So that part will help, on the server i can also provide their IP, Key, Macaddr. So i figure i will let the admin deal with things in their own way. Plus all login's, chat, voice (sounds), are being logged. It might help us out. This one is all passive so it does not require hooks into the game at all nor does it stop anything.

I'll only be concerned if i ever get back into competative play and its prevelent there! But who knows you never really can tell if it is anyway!

Since you read it and therefore know the URL for the link to TKC's forum, PLEASE file a bug report with BI. There is absolutely no reason why admin voting should be enabled all the time. Yet, we have a bad choice: Disable all voting, or allow map voting AND (shudder) admin voting. Bad, BAD security model!

well either there was some mistake done when keys were generated ...

like instead of rnd generated keys was used ranges of keys

that's ideal ground for keygen brute force attack ...

if something like that happened ... even with only some release in certain country ... then it's end game ...

correct approach is that key range is so huge that it's nearly impossible to be able generate working key

OUT OF BOX keys (generated keys used for retail) 'locked' on ultra safe place smile_o.gif

and validation server for MP is more secured than bank smile_o.gif

thanks to keygen and thus IDchange, clientside cheats, possible engine script cheats (mess with server) and so on

combined with useless IP and MAC info (dynamic)

public gameplay in ArmA is pain , same goes over public server admining ...

As far as a range ban, that's just for repeater or 'anonimizers' that mask IP.  The direct IP is for providers, and yes, I know most people have dynamic IPs.  Should send a notice of ban for (proven) illegal activity like multiple liscense use to their provider.  This would be easy to accomodate if arma's database tools could rewrite a log file and automate some of the functionality.  At least the cheat would have to waste time to reinit the modem for another IP address.

Is there a law for online harrassment in the US or anywhere?  Being told to go away and be banned should be notice enough, if they circumvent it, it should be considered harrassment IMO. *grrr*

Maybe, I have a long term solution to ban and kick people but BIS need to change some elements of the game.

Sorry for my language but English is not my native language.

My idea is based on the userhash system that is used in the P2P program emule. When you instal this program, every user gets it own identification code (userhash), this code identifies you when you connect to the KAD network, this number is for every user unique.

this sytem should be introduced in ARMA. When you instal ARMA, the game creates an unique number based on different variables, for example: time and date, serial number, operation system, location, etc. This number should be encrypted, so it's hard to crack.

When you connect to a server this number is used for your identity and it's a good method to ban and kick people when necessary because the number is for every user unique.

Serial numbers are no longer needed, so the good are not harmed by the bad and random IP numbers cannot influence this system. Your number will only change when the game is reintalled.

It does that to a small degree. The other problem is that you can see anyone's CDID in the game buy just connecting to the server. They should remove that to the clients. No need for a client to obtain that information.

It's nice to be able to record player ID's for banning purposes. Makes it a lot easier than scrolling up on the server console (which is not always possible, especially on rented servers). It's also a simple way to verify identity. Sure, ID's can be changed fairly easily by anyone with a little knowhow. It remains a method for filtering out amateurs (which are the majority of malicious users).
