dsm 0 Posted June 30, 2007 Hi I've got dual x850's running in xfire mode. There seems to be no difference to Fraps with xfire on or off. I then tried renaming ArmA.exe to AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe to force AFR as advised on another forum. When it works it's brilliant, but most of the time the screen either strobes, burns out, or fades out. Does any one know if there will be a fix from BIS or ATI to get AFR working properly? Or does anyone know any tweaks to stop the strobing? Any help would be great. thanks ATHLON 64 3500+ ASUS MVP32 DELUXE X850 x850 CROSSFIRE
AsRock+SD 0 Posted July 1, 2007 Umm did't the new ATI drivers just fix the crossfire problem ?
dsm 0 Posted July 1, 2007 It appears not. I get the same fps with or without crossfire on. Can you shed some light on what the Catalyst A.I. actually does? I'm figuring it swaps the mode of GPU sharing. Cheers for sharing an interest in my woes anyway.
Key Dutch 0 Posted July 1, 2007 man, its not ATI problem, game was dev. with out crossfire or SLI support, when u use Crossfire or SLI u get estra sharpness in details ,but lose preformence (FPS). and no drivers will sort this. game simply do not support this configurations. It IS an ATI problem....I can rename it any number of CF .exe's and it near doubles the fps. ATI just needs to make one that works with ArmA(the stobing of the HDR is the main issue)
Key Dutch 0 Posted July 2, 2007 look there is to many companys, and to many dev.teams , each use they owen enging, and if they ignor Crossfire/SLI technology, its hard for ATI/nVidea to fix they overlooked mistakes. its same with AGEIA PhysiX cards , if game do not support this future, u can do whatever u want, but its not gona work. i belive development of Arma was started B4 CF/SLI apire widely on market, that why its do not support this configuration, same with STALKER , its do not support too, couse its was in development for 4 years. memnoch 0 Posted July 2, 2007 Works here for me if I rename the .exe. Typical increase woudl be from 50-60FPS to 135+. I don't always get the strobing effect but more often than not it is there.
dsm 0 Posted July 2, 2007 So, not BIS's fault as development started before the technology was there. But it kinda works with a tweak, so I presume ATI can patch CCC to get it bang on. Does anyone think ATI will bother? Their support service is pants. What .exe names work best or does this not matter? I've named it AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe. Rawhide 2 Posted July 19, 2007 Hey all, I got a Asus ATI 1950XTX, and are considering bying the second one for Crossfire. I only use my computer for ArmA, so it's vital for me to get it to work properly. So the Q; will it work with ArmA & two 1950XTX's? And what do I gain on graphical effect (FPS/eyecandy)? The MB is the Asus P5W DH Deluxe, on a E6600 processor. Any feedback would be much appreciated! Best regards, -Rawhide

Works fine, I copy the Arma.exe to desktop rename it Fear.exe and then put it back in the Arma folder, make a shortcut on desktop and your good to go. I am using 2900xts now, seems to give 10 extra frames at minimum. But CF just about doubles my frame rate over using only one card.
evilnate 0 Posted July 19, 2007 My sys: C2D E6600 2GB DDR2 2X 1900 XTX in crossfire 2X 72GB Raptors in raid 0 I too have noticed that CF doesn't do anything to help performance. The fix for getting arma to run better is to rename arma.exe to something else?? Thanks.
Rawhide 2 Posted July 19, 2007 Thank you very much for your reply! Any difference in the producer of the card? Over to the second Q(now that I got you hooked): I got the Asus ATI 1950 XTX, but it's getting hard to find now. So, if I go for the Club3D on the second card instead if the Asus, would that be a problem? -Rawhide
Rawhide 2 Posted July 19, 2007 I've decided to order a Asus 1950 CROSSFIRE (link: http://asus.com/product....menu=1) anyway. I have lots of faith in Asus, and since the MB and the other graphic card is Asus I'm going all the way. But thanks again for your help. kklownboy 43 Posted July 20, 2007 to run CF in Arma you will need to rename, you can copy the .exe first to NOT over write it.. Also you will need a CF card/master, though there is a software hackish , but the master card is the way( for 1800,1900,1950xt, xtx versions). Dont be in a hurry the dongle on the back is way to fussy and fiddly and is a pain to set up at first. But 35fps to 70 fps is worth it. You can mix brands. Kenbow 0 Posted July 26, 2007 Crossfire doesn't do shit here nomatter what I rename the .exe to. Â two x850s, and one is gathering dust. Try downloading ATIToolTray, and then once that is installed, disable CCC to have the ATIToolTray program run your card. You should be able to get CF to work this way. And, you still have to rename it to a program that does work with CF, such as Fear.exe.
