Patch 1.08 doesn't boot thread

Recommended Posts

No problem Chris.....I just want BIS/SecuRom to acknowledge that there IS a problem and that they ARE going to work out a solution that does not involve me snipping at the guts of my registry or finding some other obscure method of making this game work...that's all...nothing more. I do not think that is too much to ask as a paying customer. I do not think the no-cd patch is the answer either...at least not yet but I'm sure hoping for a quick fix ASAP.

As for my comments about pirates, I actually work for a games developer and yes there is a problem out there, but the scare mongering in the industry is over hyped, these people who DL games will never have parted with their cash in the first place, so no real money is lost, it's all vapour money, it doesn't exist.

but as has been said already the securom works fine with 1.05/1.06 and the beta, to change it after the fact when the games has been out for months and has well and truely cracked already is just asking for trouble, both the developers and publishers are to blame.

All I want is a fix to the problems we are having, this will have a adverse affect on new people who have just parted with cash in the USA.

Yeah, some people would rather not play the game at all than pay for it because they don't see it as something worth paying for..

Too bad the analysis file is crypted, it would be nice to see what's causing the issue. I expect it to be connected with Daemon Tools and its virtual drives. I tried reinstalling the game twice including removing all mentions of ArmA from the registry and the Documents and Settings folder but didn't remember to try removing the Securom entries as well. I'm too pissed off to try again because the patching takes time.

Please let us know in this thread as soon as you get some news from the Securom team.

I have the same problem and went so far as to wipe my hard drive (secure erase) and put a fresh XP install on it (SP2). I updated Nvidia drivers (158.22) and installed ArmA (1.06 DVD). It worked fine. I then installed the patch (US version) and still no dice. Just a spinning DVD and arma in the task manager for a few seconds then nothing. I did the same with a Vista Home Premium install on another HDD and I get the same results.

There is nothing that could be messed up other than the patch.

I was running the 1.07 beta just fine also and the dedicated server exe does not launch for me. I get a generic error report about how Arma has encountered a problem....

I'm running on a Striker Extreme + E6600 with a 8800 GTS 640MB.

Interesting. I did the same thing you did except the result was that mine did work. Did you happen to update your Windows XP before launching the game as well?

No.  I didn't install any updates on either OS (I did select dynamic updates for Vista during install though.)  I only installed the drivers I needed and nothing more.

I'll give that a shot tomorrow.  It's hard to stay enthusiastic after a point.

Great you got it working finally! Have fun! smile_o.gif

Just one little test, if you want to: Does ArmA *still* start up, if you remove the '-nosplash' parameter? Just copy your existing ArmA shortcut and delete it out.

Oh, and do you use additional parameters like 'maxmem=xxx' ?

Any mods(in the shortcut)?

Know the friggin' feeling. Lets keep shooting... smile_o.gif

heliosjet, one more try, 1.08, no reinstall involved.

- Set your DVD drive to PIO only mode. (Disable DMA transfer;

Windows disable in devicemanager only should suffice)

- Open Explorer and select your ArmA DVD.

- Highlight one or more *big* files from the DVD and drag them to desktop...

(do not use copy/paste;..really drag them over)

- ... immediately after the copy process begins, doubleclick

ArmA with '-nosplash' parameter.

- You may need to repeat the last two steps 2-3 times.

- Hardcore version: if ArmA still does not start up, repeat

above copy operation with two small Explorer windows...

to really saturate the copy process.

---

And yes, this try is directly related to another securom specific error.

Well, I received a reply from securom support.

Quote[/b] ]

Hello,

It seems that a software conflict is causing this error. Maybe it' the

sptd.sys device driver (usually installed with emulation tools like Daemon

Tools or Alcohol120%).

Could you please remove it with the setup form the link below and then try

again to start the game?

http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads

Best regards,

SecuROM Support Team

SecuROM on the web: http://www.securom.com

or via e-mail: support@securom.com

I followed their instrucctions(I even uninstalled DT completely) but the game still doesn't boot. I reply to them and I am waiting for another reply.

Anybody had it fixed?

I took my mouse pointer and put it on the box called "search".

All I added in the searchbox was: 7001. And guess what, 4 hits of which 1 thread directly related including a million fixes for your problem.

As I've been told by the topic starter; This thread is about "Click ArmA Icon - Nothing happens" problem.

Please dont exagerate, sickboy.

There is only one working fix for securom 7001 that works right now.

As for Symbiot, he was just a little lazy, no? wink_o.gif

Sure, but Symbiot is around longer than that.

A million fixes, maybe only 1 works sure smile_o.gif

Anyway, I Just don't like it to read some bullshit: Bravo BIS bullshit reply in the 1.08 Release thread, and then asking the question in this thread while a search for 7001 simply reveals the thread with the information to a fix; Bravo to Symbiot himself smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]sickboy GO AWAY. You don't have more important things to do?
See very little reason why I should go away. I gave symbiot the link to the 7001 thread to resolve his problem; good sickboy would be a better reply of yours.

If you keep personally attacking me like this im going to report you to the Moderators anyway; Stop disgustful replying plz!

And still Symbiot replies in this thread without seeing your link, otherwise he would not reply, would he?

Anyway, stop with these poor replies, there is really no need to attack me.

sickboy, just a quick note.

no need to bash people when they don't do a search. Sometimes we write too fast or we do not see a link. It may happens. Your message earlier is a bit aggresive or sarcastic no? do you think the guy will come back after reading your message?

I dont really think you should bother urself with politics between other persons. I'm sure Symbiot can handle himself.

Like I wrote before, he's been here a while, pre ArmA, so ofp.

My "Agressive Post" was merely a response to his own "agressive post" in the 1.08 Release thread where a fast conclussion is made instead of a search for 7001 errror.

Anyway, we're drifting very far off-topic. If you really do care to continue this I might suggest PM.

OK I give up. I have tried everything ever mentioned to do with this.

I removed the registry entries and uninstalled Arma, reinstalled and updated patches and 104 ran fine then 105 ran fine and 108 wont start, no error nothing.

This is so frustrating and nobody is willing to take responsibility which is even more frustrating.

I can't waste anymore time on this thing.

dogtags, I agree 100%

The last step would be upgrading to Vista but I don't want to buy that at the moment. A lof of money to just play a game sad_o.gif

Altough Off-Topic, you can workaround this problem by a few options, unless you are running under Vista. At this time there is afaik no real-workarounds fixes for Vista.

Anyway these are workarounds mentioned:

[*] Put Texture detail on Normal instead of Default or High/Very High

[*] add -maxmem=512 to your game shortcut or exchange 512 with 768

[*] Try first with Normal Graphics settings to see IF it helps anything, from there on you can work ur way up.

Suggestions for continued discussion:

and for Vista: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=57916
