SAS - Special Air Service Pack

Recommended Posts

The SBS are basically the Naval Special Forces as far as I know. I think they orginated as the Special Boat Section of the SAS in World War II.

The FN-MAG was refered to by the British as the GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) because MAG stands for Mitrailleuse d'Appui General. The M240 is a modified version of the MAG used by the US Military. The SAS still use Armalites instead of SA80s because of their poor performance in extreme weather.

official sources state that SBS are station in ghan...

and that video was taken during the event around mazar-i-sharif (whatever its spelled right :P).

in the end these folks COULD be sas as they wear anything not to get detected.. but these arent sas.. but sbs..

special boat service.. the naval form of the sas.

they can do just about anything the sas can but plus naval things smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Special Boat Service (SBS) - UK Special Forces

The Royal Navy's Special Boat Service (SBS) is the lesser-known sister unit of the British Army's Special Air Service (SAS) regiment. Based in Poole, Dorset, the SBS is a special forces unit which specialises in special operations at sea, along coastlines and on river networks. The SBS also have a team on standby for maritime counter-terrorism (MCT) operations. Whilst the unit specialises in water-borne activities, they are also highly skilled on dry land. Recent operations have taken place in the mountains of land-locked Afghanistan and deep in the deserts of Iraq. Previously known as the Special Boat Squadron and exclusively drawn from The Royal Marines, the SBS is now open to members of other regiments and services from throughout the UK military.

The Special Boat Service is organised into 3 squadrons : C, M & Z.

* C Squadron - specialising in the use of canoes and small surface craft

* M Squadron - skilled in maritime counter-terrorism (MCT)

* Z Squadron - experts in the use of mini-subs and SDVs

For reasons of security, the exact number of SBS ranks is not made public, however the number is speculated to be between 100 & 200.

As with all information regarding any secret goverment agency or branch, there maybe inaccuracies.

Funnily enough I can believe that, you must be sitting in something comfy when dishing out your expertise.

@Smiley. I had to test it, just to make sure it didn't have any inbuilt extreme countermeasures...

Sorry, but I just have to say, Nephilim, that official sources don't exactly talk about what the boys do, and where they are. A very good friend of mine happens to be a Swimmer Canoeist (Operator in the Special Boat Service), and he says your theory is, to quote the man, "f*cking rubbish".

Official sources say bugger-all. Operators can't talk about what they do, what makes you think the MoD will?

Don't trust Wikipedia either.

What he says is true, even a tarted up Jessica Alba could not make 'THEM' speak about what they do.

nephilim, I knew a walt who got on a train to and from Hereford with a full DPM cammo rucksack pretending to be them and every time someone speaks as if they know about the SAS it reminds me of him...

All this addon realy requires is the flying dagger pasted to the 'wana be SAS' forehead so we can all shoot the d..khead who thinks he's better for using an addon with a SAS tag.

Realy though, its such a waste of time unless your looking at a very specific addon for a very specific theatre, combined with very specific missions, probably somtime before 1993, or probably earlier. Anything else is pure fantasy...probably

The SAS stuff will only be used on rare occasion, I personaly hate being some special forces idiot in most games.

I can't wait for PUKF to start giving us some news. RKSL units will be freaking awsome too, I cant wait for the Merlin and the Lynx.

Sure, I agree on the information regarding the SAS and any other kind of SF or blackops units being unreliable at best, however if we were to all torch people that would make such units with the (unreliable) information, like Pathy and some others have done in this thread, with their "you don't know what you're talking about" attitude, then we would have missed out on a lot of great OFP addons in the last few years.

Triumphs such as the BAS Rangers and Deltas, SJB and Laser's work, RHS and ORCS's work on Russian units like Spetznatz, French SF by OFrP, Dutch Commandos by Lowlands Warrior and many others. For all these units, the information is based on hear-say or the very little information that is released by the goverment regarding any of these units or the operations they undertake.

Addonmaking is about artistic freedom. Where you lack sufficient information regarding equipment, operations, training, functioning etc, you need to fill in the gaps as best as possible (i.e. by using someone with experience in the regular armed forces), even if they might be a little off. It certainly won't prevent 95% of the players of enjoying them, even if they make a real soldier giggle. This is after all a game focused on realism, and not the real life barracks at Hereford.

Anyone that is so keen on getting things 100% right should join the real SAS for the experience of a lifetime, and stop picking on people that at least try to bring joy to players as best as possible. You cannot deliver accurate information to the addonmakers either, just like others in this thread that are trying to help anyone making, or at least planning to make, units with a secretive nature. You are only focusing on the negative, if everyone had such an attitude we wouldn't have had nearly as many addons for OFP as we do.

Do something constructive instead of trying to obstruct other people in their hobby.

Why dont you just make reg infantry with out helmets and ECBA /Osperay, Give em soom personal kit ie diffrent smocks, shirts, webbing and headdress. No berrys.

Basically go of comfort and what you know how to use and it works.

Weapons wize i have no idea just give em gucci toys.

NO

DZ FLASHES

Union jacks

Looks; well you have to bearin mind the NBC threat level.

Will they need to shave so they can get there wellys on?

What are the local populas like?

But at the end of the day I dont know f all about that side of soldiering im just a dumb grunt.

So your best just lookin at refferance pics and what ever and what makes sence.

Like i said I dont really know all that much so there aint no point in askin me might aswell drop the hole SAS tag and just give em more of a universal name.

Further information (what is done, pics, wip...) would be nice.

Yep, let's stop the "You can't do this addon because you have no sources" crap and talk more about the addon.

I've seen you made some new weapons (c8), have you made the L96A1? thumbs-up.gif

Beacuse there is no set model for the SAS except from the falklands war soldier and the iranina embasy seige.

And TBH i think i gave some good pointers there.

Oh and for the reacourd its not a "C8" its an L119A1

Did you read my last post?

And seeing as you don't like the addon why don't you just leave the thread alone, no one's forcing you to read and post in it are they?

Can we stop this yet?

Never said i dint like the addon i just offerd some advice and it was jumped on as for being negative.

Constructive Critersisum is being confussed with bitchyness here.

Any whoooo.

"Why dont you just make reg infantry models with out helmets and ECBA /Osperay, Give em soom personal kit ie diffrent smocks, shirts, webbing and headdress. No berrys.

NO

DZ FLASHES

Union jacks"

That would be a description of a low profile highly mobile group of soldiers would it not?

"Looks; well you have to bearin mind the NBC threat level.

Will they need to shave so they can get there wellys on?

There would be the description of the addons uniformaty

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7278/bh062ya8.jpg

I mean look there in Ghan were there is no threat of NBC so there permitted to wear beards

There wearing Personal kit IE

an old windproof smock not the latest one.

NI chest rigs

All arms vests

Arktis 95 pattern webbing pouches.

Notice how alot of them dont wear ECBA or OSPERAY.

But like I said im not in the know about this im not SF.

I also think you should get rid of the 'berrys', make them be half casual, half camoflauged with ammo belts e.t.c, make sure they all have scruffy hair like you always see SAS having...
