m0nkm0nk 0 Posted June 6, 2007 hi guys, I never played arma online before but yesterday i started with 2 other friends to play over the internet. We all have a VPN connection to each other cause this is much easyer in anyway. They connect to my server and i see them in the players list. MS 20 / 30 just good. Then mission loading and starting, after a random time ( usually really fast @ beginning ) they get error messages. Player X is loosing connection. No connection received for xx seconds. We played both the 1.05 and the 1.07fix beta -version Same probs. Does someone have these probs to? I have no idea we tryed many things to fix. Greets! shinRaiden 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Do you know how Hamachi works? If you did you would know it's rediculously silly to try and run latency sensitive traffic like games network traffic over it. 1) It's a software VPN, so all the encryption and tunneling takes CPU cycles away from your game. 2) It's a mediated VPN, so it has to get bounced through a mediation server since it's not a point-to-point VPN. More latency. When everyone else in the world decides to game off the same mediation server you're on, goodbye any connectivity. 3) VPN overhead reduces the amount of data in the packet payload, leading to more packets and/or fragmentation. There's nothing wrong with the ArmA netcode in this situation, it was never intended to be thrashed going through a clobber-masher like Hamachi.

Hamachi is ok for less latency sensitive games such as Command & Conquer, but I wouldn't use it with ArmA.
