ThePredator 0 Posted June 3, 2007 Sorry to proof you wrong Balschoiw... I experimented with that exact question. I own a handgun, a Mk23 to be precise. I also own a precision rifle, but this is another issue. If the bullet leaves the muzzle, it hits "dirty", uncanalized air, causing air turbolences and reducing the aerodynamic coefficient. Of course air has less density than lead/copper, but the air is a major factor. Air friction and aerodynamics are the reason, why many racing teams invest millions for development of bodyparts. To come back to the experiment: Firing without flash suppressor, gun resting on a support, I achieve tight groups on 25 m. With the flash suppressor, the air in front of the barrel is not just pushed aside, it is pressed through the prongs and starts to rotate and produce torque (and as a side effect in this case, the barrel won't rise as much). The groups are now pretty much the same hole, slightly larger. The same effect can be achieved with some sound/flash suppressors, depending on their construction. P.S: I can't say if this is true for military issued rifles/guns. The crown of a sniper rifle is not really considered a flash hider oder functions as an air canalizer, it is mostly for ptotecting the rifling and muzzle. Hostilian 11 Posted June 3, 2007 I'd have to agree.. The SPR accuracy is terrible - bullets have some sort of 'spread' even when prone. And no.. It's not fade. #C
Heatseeker 0 Posted June 3, 2007 I'd have to agree.. The SPR accuracy is terrible - bullets have some sort of 'spread' even when prone. And no.. It's not fade. #C Definetly, i think this was one of those balancing decisions to keep their effective range/acuracy lower than the M24. The rifles with scopes (acog/pso) have this same behaviour (random dispersion), you can hit over distance but you have to shoot quite a few rounds in order to do so. Rifles with irons feel alot more acurate.
Sevan 0 Posted June 4, 2007 SPR: I avoid SPR at all costs, it just isnt accurate, even 200 metres from target the shots end up +-1 metres from the target. Just because you can't hit a target, doesn't mean that the rifle is innacurate. I can use the SPR from anywhere from 50m to 600/700m effectively. same, there is alot of complaints about the SPR being inaccurate. I can almost always hit a man-sized target at 500m on my first shot. Edit: Do the critics understand, that the dots on the scope actually mean something? TRexian 0 Posted October 22, 2007 Thought I would resurrect this thread (after searching for the answer to my question) rather than start a new thread. When using ArmA mildot rifles, and then zooming in, it seems like the scope overlay doesn't change. That is, the mildot "size" and "distance" is static, even though the actual image is increased. So, is the unzoomed mildot range the correct one? Sorry if this is answered elsewhere - I really did search!
ArmaVidz 0 Posted October 22, 2007 Anyone interested in sniping properly, with proper velocities(or close to proper) should be using NWD Ballistics, Scope Fix and GMJ Sight Fix. Either the Sight fix or Scope fix was from GMJ - I'm at work and can't remember at the moment

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere - I really did search! In my opinion the mildots in the game are totally useless for "correct" aiming. If you mean the SPR, one thing I noticed long ago was that to a certain point the bullet always lands in middle (if you don't count heavy dispersion) if you zoom the scope so the man fits between the first dots. A little bit like M21 in OFP.
