Colossus 2 Posted June 2, 2007 Sweet.. The only thing that bothers me is that I have to use the C:\ station to install and use Red Orcestra (Steam). I have no space left on that station. What were Valve thinking about? Â
Dwarden 1125 Posted June 2, 2007 huh ? u can install STeam anywhere on any HDD ... i got it on F drive ... also works with both NTFS junctions and symlinks ....
Tovarish 0 Posted June 2, 2007 Just reinstalled RO, and this time 'round for some reason I had the same issue as colossus - it would not let me select any drive but C:\

FriketMonkey 0 Posted June 6, 2007 I was thinking about buying this game... Can you recommend it? Or is it just a sort of battlefield 1942 like game?
BlackScorpion 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Well, let's just say that the thing doesn't even have crosshairs (use irons unless in CQC or you know where you're pointing... just like in OFP ) and no ammo counter, except for the tanks. Switchable barrels for MaschinenGewehrs, and you can support most if not all guns against surfases like ground, sandbags and window frames. Stamina, big recoil, tanks driven by keyboard (you adjust the gas pedal... you don't just "push it"). Rangeable tank optics, (fairly) realistic hit effects, in-built comms... churnedfortaste 0 Posted June 7, 2007 It's completely realistic apart from the weapon ballistics...
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted June 7, 2007 ...and the AI. I'd say it's for MP use only, the bots are bloody atrocious.
Tovarish 0 Posted June 7, 2007 ...and the AI. I'd say it's for MP use only, the bots are bloody atrocious. It's meant for MP use only! Complaining about the AI in RO is a bit like complaining about the plot of a porn flick.
Heatseeker 0 Posted June 7, 2007 No ballistics must be one big UE limitation, Americas Army is the same... thats what turns me off from RO, its unreal powered.
somebloke 0 Posted June 7, 2007 But it has Bayonets, BAYONETS!

ebns72 0 Posted June 9, 2007 Have any of you actually played the game? RO has far better ballistics simulation than even OFP. I don't know what everyone is complaining about ballistics for - they are definately there, and they are excellently modeled as far as I can see. Ricochets, trajectory, the whole nine yards. Tank armor ballistics are the best I've ever seen in a game. The round's effectiveness and penetration depends on the angle you shoot it at and the armor thickness; you can often see your own tank rounds deflect or bounce off the armor if you have poor aim. Yeah, I was wondering about that too, because as far as I know, its pretty damn decent in RO. What exactly is there to complain about? Its more decent than in ARMA or any other game so far. Tovarish 0 Posted June 9, 2007 Agreed. I've been killed by ricocheting MG rounds on quite a few occasions. And watching a tank round bounce off the armour of another tank is a sight to behold.
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted June 9, 2007 Haven't played RO since it became a commercial product but I enjoyed the mod from its first release. I'm fully intent on buying Ostfront through Steam within the next few weeks though. It's been far too long since I've played it, and it can only have gotten better. And for 8 quid it's a steal! If anyone has a guest pass going in the meantime however, I wouldn't mind having a go at checking out how far I can push it with my current hardware setup, before I invest. Luciano 0 Posted June 10, 2007 I had 2, but gave them all away the other day, so.... What are you specs, I'll let you know how well you can run it.
Dwarden 1125 Posted June 10, 2007 No ballistics must be one big UE limitation, Americas Army is the same... thats what turns me off from RO, its unreal powered. ofc ROO got balistics ... both tank and infantry weapons actually the only thing missing in ROO is material penetration ... and that's happened due to multiple reasons when game was reaching deadline, penetration was on 'todo' list but it needed rework of all maps and lot of additional CPU resources in the end it was decided it's not worth it as it would delay release  ... yet there is chance it may be implemented in future
scruffy 22 Posted June 10, 2007 I sent mine, too. But one decided not to use it and the other one didn't manage to get it to work. If you give me your steam mail account I can resend them.
Luciano 0 Posted June 10, 2007 I might be able to resend one of the passes again. If anyone wants a pass, PM me your steam email. I'll give it on a first come first serve.
Monkwarrior 0 Posted June 10, 2007 I have 1 guestpass left. pm me if you want to play RO for 10 days, you'll love it. I need your steamname to send it to you. Monk.
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted June 11, 2007 $cruffy was kind enough to let me use one of his Guest Passes, so I downloaded the game last night and have spent this evening getting re-acquainted with it. I've yet to regain my marksmanship abilities with the bolt-action rifles, (they were pretty good by the time I stopped playing the mod) but I bloody love it! It's everything I remember and more; the effects when coming under suppressive fire from an MG is probably the best new thing I've noticed: everything goes blurry and tracers whiz and bounce around you, makes you actually think "Oh shit!†when you're pinned down behind a tiny scrap of cover. The fact that your stance shifts up above cover when looking down the ironsights is great too. Only bad thing I have to say is that it's a shame some of the old infantry-only maps are gone, but thankfully the ones they kept have improved somewhat. Glad they got rid of Rostock though, used to hate that map. Big thanks to $cruffy, I'm definitely purchasing this ASAP. Problem is I now have to decide whether to spend time playing this, or the newly patched ArmA.
Gisen 0 Posted June 13, 2007 I am really interested in RO but having to have steam puts me off. I haven't played anything on steam for maybe a year, so maybe it's better now- maybe someone could give the answers to these questions: 1) Can you stop steam from starting up every time you start your computer? 2) Does it still pop up all those annoying notifications when it's running but you aren't actually using it? 3) Does the friends list actually work for more than 30 seconds now? I've heard the infantry combat in RO is excellent but that the tank's aren't nearly as realistic- any truth in this or is it just the normal whining about sides? I'm coming from a long background of games like OFP (with WGL), Arma, Combat Mission and Day of Defeat (before it got arcadified) so I think RO would suit me.
