Awesome photos Aimpoint. Pin-Sharp, and well panned and composed. Nice IS / VR Zoom lens you have there too?

Indeed, great photos Aimpoint! I only wish I had some faster glass (the Sigma 70-300 is great, as some of the following photos will show, but no where near as sharp or as fast to focus)

So anyho, I went to the first airshow of the "season" (for me at least) yesterday, at RAF Cosford. The weather didnt clear until ~15:00 so the first 3 hours of flying were mainly flat displays, I'll start with some of the ground based displays tho:

Not really a "display" the entire RAF Jaguar fleet now resides in a "graveyard" at Cosford. I didn't notice the 2 letter code on the center Jaguar until I looked at the pics on the PC. Perfect I should say tounge2.gif

An E-3D Sentry arrives from RAF Waddington, and sets up a pattern overhead at about 6000 feet.

Unfortunately I dont have photos of the rest of the "attack" (was transfering some pics from the memory card at the time) but 2 Tornado F.3's arrived and set up contra rotating racetracks around the airfield at ~4000 feet.

Then a Chinook HC.2 arrived and dumped ~30 troops onto the field. They were "pinned down" by some enemy fire, and called in a Tornado GR.4A for CAS (was meant to be 2, but one was unseriveable)

Now, this next lot of photos needs its captions first.

The foolowing pics are of a "new" display team, formed last year, called "The Blades". The whole team are former RAF Pilots, and all have been part of the Red Arrows. These guys fly Extra 300's, and are INSANE. Proof:

Nice pics DM. Cosford's just down the road from me. Didn't go this year though unfortunately. Only just arrived back home that day.

Kind of a shame since your photos show stuff I've not seen flying before, like the Skyraider, Sea Fury and the P-40. Never knew there was an SA-8 at Cosford either.

Had a few of the displaying aircraft fly over my house though; pair of hawks, and a pair of F3 Tornados, the chinook and the Red Arrows (who flew over very low) so I didn't miss out completely. Also heard loads of other stuff fly past but couldn't see anything at any reasonable height as the sky was a bit hazy, as your pics of the Sentry show.

I kind of miss the sounds of jets buzzing over, takes me back to when I was a lad. biggrin_o.gif

Did you check out any of the museum? The Cold War Exhibition's pretty nice.

Never knew there was an SA-8 at Cosford either.

There isnt, its from Spadedam, just there for display during the show.

Yeah, the poor weather at the start of the day was a bit naff, but was worth it. First airshow I've been to for like 5 years, which is FAR too long. Just love the smell and sounds of an airfield biggrin_o.gif

Yeah, I had a quick wander round the museum (a good time killer whilst the bulk of the traffic subsided) - was packed ofcourse, so I shall be going back at a later date to enjoy it (and take pics) properly. A LOT of cool stuff in the new Cold War building, especially since thats my preferred era (these old warbirds are nice and all, but give me a Vulcan or a Phantom or a Lightning ANYDAY biggrin_o.gifwink_o.gif )

Some shots I took when a fire artist performed at a wedding I attended to:

JB20070609_3341.jpg

JB20070609_3345.jpg

JB20070609_3352.jpg

JB20070609_3376.jpg

JB20070609_3377.jpg

JB20070609_3379.jpg

All shots taken with only the flames as the light source, exposure was actually reduced ( not increased! ) in all shots during raw development. They could be sharper, but then at f1.4 the 50mm is quite soft anyways. Add to that ISO 1600 and the long exposure times of ~1/40. I'm quite amazed how well they turned out!
