Why is it impossible to find this game in Canada?

Recommended Posts

I think people are worried about the delivery method and attached obligations of downloading their copy.

As with EA Games, you have that retarded EA Delivery method where you have to have this program to download the game/expansion pack and the program has to be running constantly in order to play the download in question; which eats system resources etc. It was a pain in the ass, I'd never buy via that method again. I downloaded Armored Fury for BF2 via that content delivery system and it gave me nothing but grief. Sometimes I'd have to restart the program (manually kill the .exe). I'd also have to go into the download folder and backup the install I downloaded (which can't be installed without the EA Games program).

Downloaded content delivery with controls such as these are garbage. If Atari just gives you a RAR or EXE to install, great, but if it's "content delivery" per se, avoid it like the proverbial plague.

Quote[/b] ]My local retailer says you can't purchase from her distributor unless you are a bussiness. Minimum orders as well...so you'd have to purchase from the local retailer.

Same in Australia, bloody things disappeared from the shelves already ...... about time a new demo was released and got included on magazine DVDs. ..... seeing no ones spending any friggin money on advertising.

Atari looks to have really dropped the ball on distribution of ArmA, at least in Canada. Only one retailer in Canada carrying it (EB Games) and even they only had a handful of copies to sell.

All of this is translating to missed sales and revenue for BI, which will ultimately mean a poorer quality product for those (few) of us who managed to find a DVD version they could buy - meager sales will mean meager patch support throughout the lifetime of the product.

Atari dropped the chalupa here in the US as well.  In many places Arma still isn't on the shelves.  Best Buys and some EB Games didn't have it on the shelves until 10-14 days after release.  And not even all those chains got copies at all their stores.

I know in my case when the game was supposed to be there on the 1st I spammed phone calls everywhere.  In most places I was told the 8th if at all.  I figured WTH, if I order the DVD online, it will take that long anyways (I don't trust downloading).  I kept note of those stores and on the 8th I called them again.  Again I was told "maybe this week or next".   I finally just broke down and bought 4 copies of the game at EB online and they arrived in a day and a half.  I'd probably still be waiting.  S&H was minimal and didn't change no matter how many I bought, and I wanted to secure my friends copies.  Before everyone asks to be my friend, they did pay me...hahaha.

My advice to BI is to sever all ties with this useless gaming entity ASAP.  They killed your North America profit by providing 0 publicity.  I saw one add in one PC mag and nothing on TV or the radio.  I didn't even know this was coming until I tripped over it 1 month prior to release.  Embarrassing.  I have seen far worse games pumped more than this.

I agree, Atari has been very disappointing in getting this game out in the open. It's like they are scared of really investing in this product, which is unfortunate.

BI should approach Steam as an online distrubutor. They're reliable, and simply having the game on their systems will get the word out to the masses.

I hear that.

My wife goes nuts in Walmart. I thought I'd at least get the game while shes putting me in the poor house.

Nope. No game.

But I did pick up Stalker to make the trip worthwhile. biggrin_o.gif

At least you can still buy it from atari.com/us as a box or a download. Buying the box from atari is a good last resort I find if you don't want to download and you can't find the box anywhere else.

Maybe Atari is trying to in a sneaky way, kill the profits of Armed Assault in retallation for their game "Enemy in Sight"..

But yeah, I'm not at all impressed with Atari's "publishing" talents for this right now. Yet oddly enough supposedly they were the only ones or only ones that didn't demand much of Bohemia in turn...curious.

I also have a friend in Canada who has been trying to get this game for some time, even reserved a copy a few weeks or so ago, the staff were pretty much clueless there as well.

I finally found it! I bought it at an EB in a small towm in Southern Ontario.

Luckily I looked behind the counter at the stack of games, and there it was 2 copies. i said "you have Armed Assault!"

pimply faces boy replies'....um..er...yeah,..you want it?"

YES!

Now my current rig runs it at a steady 15fps LOL, but I am building a rig right now, should be done in about a month.

Unfortunately for me I started with a Athlon 64 3800 x2. I am reading how ArmA does not care to much for duo cores. Hopefully a future patch addresses this.

until then FFUR2007 will do.

I believe its more the Intel version that has issues. Although ArmA doesnt take advantage of the duo core at all.

I have an AMD Athalon 4600 x2 and it runs pretty good on very high setting considering all the "issues" the game has with lods.

Its the Vid card as well that seems to be a weak link for me even though its a decent one (8800 GTS 640MB)

I thought that was a great vid card. I hope I don't have to overpay for a GPU to run ArmA. $300 max is what I would consider reasonable.

Let's try and keep this thread on topic...like where the heck can you get ArmA in Canada?

Latest answer just a few posts above. wink_o.gif
