monty67t 0 Posted May 15, 2007 CHAPTER ONE: Ambush In Taji Carter focused through the scope on his SPR. He could see Simpson crawling up behind the technical and placing a satchel charge right behind the back tire. As Simpson pulled back, Carter turned his attention to the two insurgents standing nearby the truck, talking and smoking. They couldn't have been more than twenty feet away. He waited and watched, if one of them made a move, he was ready to deliver the bad news. Simpson made it back to his cover, a small ditch behind the safe house the insurgents were held up in. These forge in fighters had been carrying out IED attacks on coalition convoys and Task Force Cobra had received intel that their leader was here, in this house just outside Taji. Vincent, the leader of this 8-man U.S. Army Special Forces A-Team was waiting for Simpson to come over the net and tell him that he was ready to blow the charge and start the ambush. He was thinking about how nice it would be to just use an air strike and level this house. With the other houses nearby and the recent bad media coverage of collateral damage, the brass was going to allow it. He heard Simpson in his ear, "we're ready here sir", Simpson said. "Everyone ready", Vincent said into his mic. The operators came back over the net, one at a time, telling Vincent they were ready. They had two sharpshooters with SPRs, two machine gunners with M240s, the others carried M4s. "Do it", Vincent said. Simpson hit the button on the remote detonator and rear of the truck jumped off the ground in a fire ball. The two men nearby were thrown to the ground, they probably had shrapnel wounds. The area around the house irrupted in gun fire. Tracer rounds were flying into the house through every window and door. Brown put his machine gun fire on the two men outside to make sure they were taken care of. No one came running out, no one returned fire. After about a minute of heavy gun fire, Vincent called a cease fire. They watched and waited, there was no movement. "Alright, let's prepare to enter the house", Vincent said. TO BE CONTINUED . . .
