Call of Duty Modern Warfare...

Recommended Posts

Oh, COD 4 is just plain honest, arcadey fun. Its pretty and polished, but also linear and SP plays out the same way everytime and is really, really short. Still I found it cinematic and enjoyable.

Its got a whole host of multiplay options (though no coop!wink_o.gif which make it play kinda like BF2, CS, or even Delta Force 2/Land Warrior (anyone remember the DF series?!wink_o.gif. Hardcore mode is especially fun with no hud and increased damage.

CoD4 doesn't support my processor. AMD Athlon 3000+ XP

No wonder, that's prehistoric stuff you have there.

For some silly reason I absolutely loved this game. I've been a realism fanboy for a loooong time, but I rented it for the 360 and just had a blast with it. I usually HATE games like this. I never liked the other COD games (probably just the theme), got bored quickly with B.I.A., didn't like FEAR, etc. But this one just sucked me in. It was just so well put together. The gameplay was what you would expect, but if you can get off your high horse and not worry about realism for a few hours you should like it. I don't do MP, but for a rental, the SP was pure fun and for me at least, very, very immersive. I actually got attached to a couple of NPCs. Sounds silly, but towards the end I was upset at the thought that one of them was dying.

The Epilogue mission was also just plain fun.

pretty much the same over here. It was like a little movie. It just playied so smooth and the missions where always fun and different.

Though it was a bit short. Started 1 pm finished 5:30 pm.  sad_o.gif

I am definitly going to get the expansion pack, if there will be one in the near future.

Thats why I rented it, but I'm almost wishing I had bought it. I could play the AC130 mission over and over and I don't think I would get too bored. Coolest mission I have ever played for any game. During that mission my wife was sitting next to me on the couch reading and laughing at me as I kept scooting closer to the edge of the couch and kept saying "whoa, no way."

I didn't just hate it because of the lack of realism, but because the singleplayer was more of a battle against the level designer than the enemy AI. No seriously, i spent most of my time figuring out which wall i was supposed to hide behind so that my team moves closer to the enemy.

In the TV station when you fight the arabs in the room with all the monitors and equipment, there is an exact spot you have to reach to trigger the attack. Then you run back out and take potshots at the arabs until they finally stop spawning.

Then at the last marine mission, after you reinforce the guys with green smoke, i remember that part was the most ridiculous one of all. Nothing happens, but as soon as you jump off from the construction yard the arabs start coming in like flies. All you have to do in that sequence is shoot the two arabs on the rooftop, the one RPG arab on that balcony thingie to the left and the two shooting the RPKs. Then you throw a flashbang and run to the farthest wall so that your team follows. Then you run into the building triggering a save point.

If you don't do it exactly like that, a horde of raving lunatics will jump on your head and shoot you. You try to run into the building before you trigger your allies advance? Shot. Who do you think you are, wiseguy? It was like Takeshi's Castle where there are 4 doors you have to jump through but 3 are wood. Find the right one!

I heard that dumb cobra pilot ask me whether i missed her scripted ass or not so many times... Your allies don't provide you with anysort of assistance either, don't count on them to shoot a single enemy, not one, not until you trigger their advancement sequence. Then they storm ahead and shoot everything that twitches.

Mind you that that entire firefight takes place in a space smaller than the house i live in.

Bah, just thinking back at it makes me angry.

And apparently Zhakaev is a World War Two era jew as depicted by german cartoonists.

One mans treasure is one man's trash I guess. I never noticed anything like your talking about other than the fact that if you just sit most of the time the enemy will spawn forever. I still loved it and will pick it up after the holidays as I can get past the fact that it's a scripted interactive movie and just play without having to always think. I've been a sim junkie since the early 90's and I can take a break once in a while.

I think games are becoming junk food and this one is a prime example sad_o.gif . Even those who seem to have enjoyed COD4 sound like someone who grabbed a burger with fries. CoD is what it is, i honestly never liked any of them but no point in peeing on someone elses treasure, life is too short goodnight.gif .

I downloaded the demo a few days ago and completed the level on all difficulties. I liked COD and CODUO for the singleplayer and multiplayer. Me and a couple mates would join a server and just have some fun. The multiplayer was excellent.

However I'm not really warming to COD4. It just felt like a well made mod for COD/UO to me. It was almost the same with some differences ie the setting, reload anims etc. Even the demo level reminded me of a mission in COD where you run through that French village blowing up AA guns. I was expecting it to be different.

I don't know what MP is like. Can anyone fill me in on MP?

What keeps me playing any CoD game is the intense multiplayer.

But you guys will just think I'm just a st00p!d cs k!dd!3 n00b cause this is the OFP/ArmA forums.

Dont feel bad there Youngin', I'm darn near 37 and the only reason I'm gonna drop my hard earned money on this is (as is ever was on any game but OFP ) the palm-so-sweaty-it-slips-off-the-mouse-and-knocks-my-beer-over-into-my-external-hard-drive-

costing-me-4-times-what-the-game-is-worth-and-a-years-worth-of-elicit-porn-downloads-hardc

ore MP Gaming fun stuff. pistols.gif

Thou I do think I'll wait till it hit's the bargain bin as COD2 already has a modern weapons mod or 3 out for it. (We do get wiser with our money as we get older, no? Oh wait, I bought a Pontiac....)

Must say is was quite fun while it lasted, especially the Pripyat and AC130 mission.

Wouldn't play it again though except replaying missions mentioned above. smile_o.gif

I think that games are replacing books for me, in that I play games for the story that they offer. CoD4 had a pretty fun story. As most people said, it did feel like playing a movie, but if it was anything else, I think I'd hate it. Imagine CoD4 pretending to be a simulator. Blegh.

I think it is a great game...definitely one of the better ones I've played in a while.

Aye. The way the story evolve as you play is just great. And the more cinematic parts of the game are just awesome. I've played very few games that have done it as good as CoD4 (Namely the Half-Life 2 episodes).

Ok, I realise this is rather off-topic, but Ti0n3r: if you seek a similar cinematic experience, may I suggest Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)? The best story-driven/cinematic games I have ever encountered.

Although COD4 certainly has a very similar feel.

I fully agree to this.

I started the game on Hardened, thinkin I would have more fun doing my best to shoot more targets.

Well I did shoot more targets. but they jsut KEEP SPAWNING.

If I hate anything in a game its unlimited spawning of enemies.

Just as you say, I had to find the trigger point, get my ass back to cover, watch the enemy die and advance.

Then there is this another thing: enemies have inifinite grenades and ammo, and they really like to grenade-snipe you.

In the mission where you wait for extraction with the wounded sniper, I hid in a shed, and grenades kept going off near me for the whole time. while there were only 5 soldiers near or something.

plus AI knows where you are all the time, wich can be pretty desturbing.

I played on normal difficulty because it is just impossible to dodge all the grenades AND not get shot. Its the same every time you load, thats not fun

Ok end of rant: I really enjoyed the game and its cinematics. gameplay was fair, except for the trigger points.

Another good point where a lot of games can learn from (ArmA2?) Is the briefings during the loading. Well its not really briefing, but you are entertained, so it feels there is no loading at all.

I had a good time, but dont try to be smart in this game. It will not do any good to the experience.

It's a laugh. Hardly realistic, but that's not really the point I suppose. It's probably the most consistent CoD game that I've played; the first seemed to peter out in terms of set pieces around the middle, and the second was fun, but didn't have as much "wow" factor. This one keeps throwing up interesting stuff, whether they be set-pieces or little features, like being able to pick up and throw live grenades, or having to break an attack dog's neck before it tears your throat out. Just a shame you can play it through in one sitting if you've nothing better to do for a few hours.

I wouldn't recommend buying it at full price, but the sociopath in me recommends that you try it at some point, because throwing people's hand grenades back at them is hilarious.
