Infam0us 10 Posted July 2, 2008 From this review I'm actually quite looking forward to OFP2 now! Seems ArmA II will have some competition!
Barely-injured 0 Posted July 2, 2008 I don't know what to make out of this. The reading was very nice and it is what we all thought the sequel should be like back in ofp days, indeed I suppose that this is even what BIS had in mind and more (dynamic campaign) when they first started out on making "game 2". Unfortunately in the end BIS had to cope with reality, their limited amount of money, technology constraints and their own capabilities. But instead of canceling everything they gave us a downgraded version of what was expected, but nonetheless great ArmA series and I respect them for that. I think it is clear by now that codemasters truly understand what a game called OFP 2 should be like, and they are just as ambitious as BIS, but it remains to be seen if a larger team, bigger budget, better technology and a horde of artists can pull it off this time. In the end I suppose whatever the result is, we the consumers are going to benefit most of this competition.

Pulverizer 1 Posted July 3, 2008 they are just as ambitious as BIS Only just as ambitious? I think, BIS is like: "hmm Hmmm... No, wait, I got it! Lets add cheap bloom gfx and butterflies to ol ofp and we'll make lotsa monies " while Codies is like: "Hellz yeah! OFP2 gonna pwn ALL, take the genre a quantum leap forward and make everyone its bitches, buddy boy "
Dogstar 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Id much rather see actual ingame pictures... At the end of the day.. ill play both on my xbox.. Its not an issue of this or that. The real question is which console game will allow modding if any?

SHWiiNG 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Well this ba raising is dangerous for CM. They have promised soo much, and made the expectations so high, if they dont deliver. . . . . . The universe will explode. Naaa, but seriously if they dont deliver, there will be alot of unhappy people out there. Me included which makes all the difference

If it comes out looking like that of course.....

Yeah and then look whats happenned, BIS went back to the drawing board and is producing a product IMO that doesnt look or sound as good as those early Articles on Game

But I am just wondering if a bigger team and more money can prevent ofp 2 from having a similar fate ? and besides IMO the current product doesn't seem to be all that bad (at least as far as we know about it till this point)
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted July 4, 2008 When I have a cd in my hands, I will then believe it's actually released. After all these years and discussions of OFP2........ pft! When it was 1st announced, there were just as many "the other game gripes".........except the defendant was OFP1.
Pulverizer 1 Posted July 4, 2008 Quote[/b] ]But I am just wondering if a bigger team and more money can prevent ofp 2 from having a similar fate ? If you listened to Ondrej's interview* on Sahrani radio, you got the impression that lack of funding and manpower are exactly the reasons why they needed to rush out ArmA and can't model stuff with higher regard of realism gameplay-wise than Operation Flashpoint (©2001, Codemasters). Anyway, will Codies be able to pull it off? They sure seem to have no doubt of it and I guess they know better than any of us. *Good stuff btw, everyone should listen that for a little glimpse of things from his perspective. rekrul 7 Posted July 4, 2008 Previews are always positive. You'll never find a negative preview. Anyways it shows us what the goal of OFP2 is and that looks nice atleast. However one thing I noticed was that the article says that the MK16 MOD 0 has an effective range of 30m. Isn't that shorter than the MP5/10? I've never heard of the weapon but it seems strange to have a 40mm attached to a rifle with 30m effective range.
Deadfast 43 Posted July 4, 2008 Even pistols have better range than 30m. It has to be a typo. BTW, I'm sure most of us will be familiar with the gun under the name of SCAR. And this is not the only stupidity in the article. "Tanks are vulnerable to Javelin missiles. They need support" *Picture of Abrams*

max power 21 Posted July 4, 2008 Well, it looks like they're going for the mix and match marmy thing too. Why AH-1z? Why not an apache? Everyone loves that thing anyways. It's like bf2 set a precedent where all army games must have the zulu cobra in them.
EricM 0 Posted July 4, 2008 These are clearly photoshopped renders of actual game models. Not to say the final game will look bad, it may be close to that, but I doubt it... The soft shadows could be baked, they may have a very cool megatexture techno for the ground and volumetric smoke effects all together, but the antialiasing and the sea are far too perfect for a game. Even Crysis doesn't have that...
