Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

Recommended Posts

I know what I`m buying at the end of the year..OFP2 and not another bugfull crappy patched ArmA(2) xmas_o.gif

I'll second that for sure. If ArmA2 can display something by summer (1 year since they announced it) that no longer shows it looking like ArmA1, then I'll considering getting it.

I am rather impressed by some of the posters on this thread. They seem to be so confident that Codies Operation Farcepoint 2 will be so astounding and bug free that they must have some sort of secret ability to see into the future.

I am going to wait for a demo for both games before I say which is better. I suggest other people do the same instead of jumping to conclusions.

Not bug free, just less bugs then ArmA2 biggrin_o.gif

I'm rather disappointed by the majority on this forum who appear to be thinking that the ONLY game can be ArmA and the ONLY dev can be BIS and the only platform can and must be PC.

I PLAYED and LOVED Elite by BIS ... a console game slaugthered by members on this very forum. Well, that opened my eyes a little bit:( ... so i'm not surprised by the hostility towards OFP2 by CM.

And you know this how?

You are all aware there is no actual OFP2 game if you go by the latest news. A very early stage in development also counts as getting staff and planning.

You all seem to be jumping to Codemasters as if they're some magical liberators from the horrors of ArmA2. You haven't played ArmA2 so you don't know what it's like. Neither have I, so I'm only whining over old shitty footage made using a shitty hand held camera. You can't say if ArmA2 is going to have more or less bugs than OFP2, you have played neither game.

As for looks of the game, don't judge the book by its covers. The only thing that you need to look for is gameplay videos.

A bugfull crappy patched ArmA(2)?

Lets tear down that sentence.

bugfull crappy patched ArmA(2).

With bugfull you presume that it will be full of bugs, even though you have not played the game or seen anything but a few vids. Or do you perhaps have magical insight into the future? If so, would you mind telling me how the world will look after this newest depression.

What is then illogical is that you say patched. That negates the bugfull comment completely.

What's left with is crappy. Well, any game that you don't like can probably be called crappy by you, that's totally subjective. Again, you dont know if it'll be crappy, but it might not appeal to your taste and thus making it crappy to you, but not others.

So what you're left with is ArmA(2). That means you'll probably be playing the phantom OFP2 instead of ArmA2. Well good for you.

To all you naysayers, can I borrow your time machine for a while?

Which would be very nice. But what if OFP2 is not going to be the game that some people are expecting it to be and it turns out to be a COD4 clone?

Since you quoted me I'm assuming that this is aimed at me.

If that is the case read the last two sentences of my previous post very carefully and you will see I am not implying such a thing.

Just merely telling people to reserve their judgement when a demo has been released for both games. Rather than making comments that are bollocks.

sometime after year 2000 (forgot exactly when) i established one rule for PC games ...

never buy game before 3 patches released

always when i tried game before ... i regret it...

so i see no point to discuss what's better before games are out before we see demo ...

what's just discussed are myths smile_o.gif

How can you say such bull when you dont even no nothing much about Arma2 yet.

Plus OFP2 is just all talk and no proof, when is the real ingame videos/pictures to say if what there typing is true or not..

Ever heard the saying "You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?"

Wait, two military sims in the next 1.5 years? What's the argument, I'm sure both will have a lot to offer in terms of different gameplay experiences.

The internet is populated by two things:

1) Pornography, and I'm all that much happier for it.

2) People who type without thought or the fear of consequence.

Take away #2 and the Net will be awesome, but somewhat empty because the latter has overtaken the former by miles.

I'll add to that:

* Also don't buy games before reading a large cross-section of reviews. Play any demo that is hopefully available and look for community feedback.

* Never pre-order a game without accepting the consequences of that action. If you pre-order and it's a bad game, you have no right to complain and I don't want to see your ignorant, whiney little face on a forum. As much as you have a right to a relatively flawless game, you have the responsibility to take the right actions and look after your money and your time.

* Do yourself a favour and don't buy games until they come down in price, say a year after they come out. I do this most of the time except for a small handful of games I really look forward to.

I'm not arrogant enough to believe everyone should follow all these rules, however I like to consider myself in a better position than most both mentally and financially due to way I approach this hobby.

add

*don't trust in advertising and slogans like "real military simulation" or "real combat feeling" etc.

btw. CM devs are now working on 3rd "attempt" of OFP2.

Who knows OFP2 could be next "Duke".... whistle.gif

...Perhaps. Anyone remember 'Enemy In Sight'?

Last news I remember of that game was in 2005 before ArmA was announced. Seemed a lot like OFP.

I did a quick Google search. Didn't see any info newer than 2005 sad_o.gif

No real info on the developer's website

It looked good. I really hope it gets finished.

Last time I took a little intel about EiS. Illusion Softworks has been taken by 2K Games and they have been renamed on 2K Czech. 2K Czech works hard on Mafia2 and after it they are going to continue work on Moscow Rhapsody. Enemy in Sight was probably canceled for ever. Atari tore off the agreement with Illusion Softworks.

Yeah it's either totally cancelled (especially now since OFP2 and Arma II are both competition,) or it is on hold or in a very early concept stage. Perhaps after Mafia 2? Unlikely.

Not sure if this is old news or not, but at the official forum there was posted an interview with some of the developers and they mentioned a few good things like :

- PC is the mainplatform so there will be no console ---) pc port.

- Ability to play the main campaign in CO-OP

- New \ good AI ( though all developers say that tounge2.gif )

He is making reference to an old, about 2 months ago, PC Gamers interview.

For over 3 years I was looking forward to Enemy in Sight! Enemy in Sight now = Vapourware!

ALL games are Vapourware until they are produced!

Never count your chickens until they have hatched!

OFP2 = Vapourware.

ArmA2 = Vapourware.

OK I'm being harsh! But I won't be getting excited about ANY of them yet! Well not until I see some exciting gameplay footage at least!

There certainly is a difference between dead and work in progress. My bet is going to be Armed Assault 2, mainly because of tthe developers. All Codemasters have shown us so far are rendered screenshots and a video, or is there some more footage I'm not aware of?

As someone else stated, there will be two combat simulators out in a year and a half or so, play what you like to play, and you can play both if you want, nobody is stopping you.

Regarding those tips for purchasing games, they are quite good and I can definitely recommend them, not only for the games market but generally for any item you purchase. Try it, read about it and look into it before buying them.

Only every now and then should you pre-order a game when you haven't a lot of information. Armed Assault was a reason for me to anyways.

Yours,

I go with that!

Just play (and enjoy) the games currently available. Looking forward to a game is sometimes fun but mostly extremely frustrating

Personally, after ArmA I have no confidence in BIS and am happy to see someone else giving this type of game a shake.
