300

Recommended Posts

So, have anyone seen the movie 300? It had world-premiere 2 days ago.

Many reviews I read, said that the movie contained alot of blood, unneccesary alot of blood. Nothing that I really noticed.

But, it had gotten 4/5, 5/5 etc from most newspapers anyways.

So my small review:

I liked the movie, especially the ending, and it was awsomely filmed, the perspectives in battles gave you the feeling like being there.

The plot was good too, which gives you the feeling that is something that could had happened.

But it's not 100% historically correct, but based the Battle of Thermopylae. So, for historylovers, I would probably not reccommend it, but actionwise, it's great.

My score

What do you think?

I've only seen a trailer on youtube, and it seemed just like that. Inaccurate and adjusted to attract a vaster amount of people with action and stuff.

I am not going to watch it.

Your loss. It was a seriously cool movie. Not a History Channel documentary, but man o' man was it a fun fun movie to watch. It's like Sin City and Gladiator rolled into one movie, but add more action. I freakin' loved it inlove.gif

I personally loved the film. It's an adaptation of a graphic novel so of course it's not going to be historically accurate.

It is incredibly silly but then again I guess that's the appeal. It's a good laugh and if you don't go in looking for an education then you'll love it. I even went to see it twice.

I thought it was a great film, the action sequences were really well done. The cgi was very impressive too.

It wasnt meant to be a 100% historical film and they never claimed it was, it was based of the graphic novel.

The reason things were exaggerated was because it was told as a story by Dilios to encourage the soldiers of the full spartan army, thats why xerxes was so tall, etc.

Reference to Sin City couldn't be more correct, since the movie is based on a graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller, the same guy who did Sin City and has also done some very good Batman and Daredevil comics...

Haven't seen it myself, but it seems interesting. Although I found it rather... confusing, I did really like Sin City. And since the story is "90 percent accurate. It's just in the visualization that it's crazy" (Zack Snyder, the director), I'm eager to see it... due to which one, is up to you to figure out. tounge2.gif

I thought it was a decent enough movie. I felt that there wasn't enough history to show why the Spartans and the Persians were fighting (it would have added to the story), plus I didn't like the way the movie unfolded like a really bad computer game (first, they sent the weaker warriors, then they got progressively stronger, etc...). The CG were excellent, and the fighting was indeed superb!

The first couple minutes- I hated it. I wondered if anyone in that world spoke normally - "FOR SPARTA!!!!!FOR VICTORY!!!!FOR GLORY!!!!" howabout "CREAM IN ME COFFEE, PLEASE!!!!!"

Also loved how everyone inluding the 90 year-old hermit and houseboys had 8-packs for abs. Felt a little queesy and had to double-check i wasn't in a gay-porn theatre.

Once you resign to this, actually a very enjoyable movie biggrin_o.gif

I've only seen the trailers so far and they've done a great job at turning me off. Sparta? Freedom? WTF, someone has confused Greek cities. And all that yelling... dear lord. And all that slowmotion, come on! That was interesting in the 70s when Peckinpah did it, but right now it's just annoying.

Sin City was a very poor film, despite its stunning visuals. 300 promises to follow in its footsteps. I'd much rather spend my money on The Inland Empire, thank you.

Oh, I believe this picture sums up the film pretty well:

My wife found that yellin' to be sexy, despite she don't like the macho craps. *sigh* Womens ...  icon_rolleyes.gif

It's not my preferred kind of film, so after less than 30 minutes I leaved the cinema and I went to a nearby pub and....... "SPARTAAAAAA??" ..... no thanks! "CEEEEREESSSS??" yes, thanks! tounge2.gif

The movie was based on a comic called "The 300 Spartans", which was based on the Battle of Thermopylae.

Not sure of how much is in the movie and so on.

It`s only a movie, and has not much in common with historical events.

I saw the US premier on March 9th and saw it 3 times in theaters. I liked it a lot being a fantasized version of the story most told to me by my father during my childhood.

It is a very cool cinema feature at its best.

ABout the story:

Film is about a battle basically. It is not a Henry V movie with Kenneth Branagh, so people expecting briliant dialogs, please go home.

Also, it isn't a Lars von Trier movie so go think your way home too.

It isn't a Gladiator or Troy style film either. This isn't even a Sin City type of movie.

The story is as simple as a broom stick and they left it that simple. Good choice.

This movie is a visual masterpiece and should be treated accordingly. It represents a brilliant connection between a comic (graphic novel) and a cinema. It was like a visit to a museum, just without going to museum. Each scene was like a painting, telling a story.

It could be without any dialog as well for me.

I wish people would let their "ok, lets see this TOP of the POPS crap, which I'm gonna hate anyway" attitude stay home and just enjoy the show just as it was intended.

This movie was about a visual story not a "thinking" movie, so if anyone got there and expected sth different..., well, it's your problem you got disappointed.

I got what I wanted as well as many others like me.

I love it. My kind of action movie. notworthy.gif

I kind of compared it to Black Hawk Down (Battle of Mogadishu) in a modern day aspect. Heavily outnumbered but not outskilled.

Errrr... nope. The film is based on a comic of the same name ("300") by the well-known (i.e. whole of Sin City, various Batman stories) artist Frank Miller. He, in turn, based/was inspired for his comic on "The 300 Spartans", a 1962 movie which he saw in his youth. Which, in turn is based on the actual battle.

From Wiki I've managed to gather that the events themselves are quite close to the actual stuff, but of course with some coloring, especially on the visual side. And apears that the "Free Greek" attitude is from the '62 movie, which in turn is Cold War era if you get the point...

Now, since I still haven't seen the movie... I'll just shut up. biggrin_o.gif

Correct, I got confused by the Wiki tounge2.gif

And just as a note, some people said that it's crap and unrealistic. But those who did probably only watch historical movies, based on true events, so close to the real thing, you wished you would have starred in the movie, so you could have been a part of the happening, even if you weren't born in those times tounge2.gif

But if you, like me, just love seeing warriors screeming "To waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and so on ( tounge2.gif ), then I reccommend this action-movie.
