I was away for a couple of weeks, simply because I couldn't be bothered with, what was at the time, a painstakingly slow Forum. So I come back, and find to my great joy, a Forum that actually loads. Hooray, let's see what's going on. I guess I'll start in the "off-topic" section, that's always nice. You can talk freely, let off some steam, enjoy a generally lively spirit. You can even see women flaunting their boobs. I mean, everyone can see them....the mod's, the children, everyone.

But to my dismay, there's little but insanely moronic topic's about which ever country has the biggest penis, a bit about who has the brownest nose, a lot of hilariously bad spelling, even a topic encouraging the closure of the off-topic!

And of course the ubiquitous and incessant We-hate-terrorists threads, with endless repetitions of the same ol cr*p. I was flabbergasted (plz enjoy this word, you wont see it alot).

So I posted a "post made when someone is bored", yes, because I was really bored with the off-topic section. So what will they tell me, the off-topic section is not here for my entertainment? Wrong! That is just about the only reason it is here. If I want serious discussion about a subject, I'll go to Forum dedicated to that subject, as I will turn to the ME section of this Forum when I have a serious question about Editing etc.

And yet, every post that carries the promise of a bit of fun is deleted, every complaint stifled.

I understand the "Where U from" and "How old R U" threads being deleted, but there has to room for a banana joke once in a while, for crying out loud.

I'm sick of all the people bitching about how "crappy" the forums are! Its the same thing over and over! All the complainers sound the same! (sound familliar??)

As for the chicks "flaunting their boobs", I don't mind it. When I was 12 I wouldn't have minded it. There is no actual nudity, so whats the prob? Just about every forum I have been to allows people to post pics or silly crap in their off topic forum. Besides OFP is for people 17 years or older right? What should we worry about.

I'm glad the mods are here to keep the pointless crap to a bare minimum. There is a difference between "pointless" and "silly"...

Oh indeed there is. Pointless and silly, I love both of them.

I'm not on some sort of anti-porn campaign either.

I don't mind the boobs.

I like boobs....alot.

I just fail to see the difference between that (those) and other forms of mindless entertainment.

Oh why even bother....

its very presumptious to think that the thread will be close  i think, u made a valid point and thats not just a pointless thread.

The off topic does mention  "things relating to the army etc etc  and looking thru half the posts, none of them are war related  but definetly some good threads otherwise that have good replies to them  and an interesting read.

When  jokes are posted on the forum  and the first 3 replies are  " seen them " or  "yeah thats original  not heard that before "(sarcastically)  and in my opinion  its the same then the thread will be deleted as all it is doing iis takeing up more time to read and more pointless threads to sift thru.

And i wont even mention the posts that are repeated time and time again   pressumably because someone is bored and has nothing better to do.

Like i said last night  out of all the people on these boards  only 4 or 5 are  constantly bickering and flamin etc and putting up these pointless posts.  (not u included nordin  as it was just that one post that was deleted although should only have been closed ).

maybe its time to put democracy to the test.

perhaps its time to run a poll asking if those who flame and continue to "nonsense post"  should be banned and have topics deleted without any explination, and let the forum forum members decide.

As you can see, I've beome pessimistic about this Forum, and that is a shame.

I appreciate your post Hilandor, and now I have to figure out if I'm just taking it all way too seriously.

I think the poll is a god idea, but don't mention names. That always gets ugly.

Just ask what people think of the strictness of the Mods.

If the majority wants it harder, you can give them harder, if they think you should ban more, you ban more...etc

my point im trying to get across is that a lot of members on the forum post some fantastic topics one that jumps out for instance is L24A's topic on army life and mishaps which makes some damn good reading and funny as well.

But what happens is we then get a pile of pointless posts, that then knock the good posts of the top and they slip away into the vast history of the forums, where no one reads them and the post then becomes dead. And by the looks of the posts made, a lot of time and effort goes into the thread, which is then wasted, which is indeed a shame.

I myself like contributing as much as i can and do not wish to close and delete topics, but with so many members posting in so many different threads, the mods have to decide and decide relativly quickly if the posts are or not relevant etc.

And lately i have found it is easier to just delete a thread that is pointless without explaining why as i think most members realise its crap etc anyway.

just leaves me to say Long live the good posts =]]]

Nordin dk I think as Hil does you have a point, perhaps you just fell in the trap of having one of your threads closed and taking it just a smidge personally? I know that's something that I've done in the past, we try to be consistent in what we do as mods, yes sometimes we will get it wrong of course, we're human beings as well.

Personally yes I think perhaps sometimes I do moderate in a heavy handed way, too heavy handed? I guess some will feel that way, personally I feel that the way I moderate is in the best interests of this forum and the community.

I'm not perfect I know, but sometimes it gets hard making these decisions knowing that some people are just waiting for us to make a mistake so they can jump on us.

I'm sure if everyone is honest they will admit there are posts they make that they know and we know will turn into flames or turn into spam fests, I still firmly believe that those two things have no place on these or any other forums, we want this to be a fun place as well as a somewhat educational place but when we make a moderating decision we have to try to consider the forum as a whole, not just individuals

Well yes, I did take it personally. At least I'm glad I've gotten a reaction from the both of you.

I've always just tried to lighten up the Forum, because I believe there has to be room for other then just the serious discussions.

I haven't seem much spamming or flaming on this Forum compared to other Forums, and when it has happened, I've felt like you've dealt with it in a suitable manner.

Recent exampel being Silent Wings.

I do also think that there is a difference between that type of posting, and the ones where you see two people having an  exchange of silly one-liners. If the thread has any content, it will quikly revert to its original subject, and the witty banter will subside, but often the threads are closed before that can happen. If you allow a thread in the spirit of the mytholigical cereal thread to exist, those that want to participate in that type of posting can do it there, and they wont affect the 'serious' threads as much. I like to take part in a bit of fun like that, and you know who else does.

Although if it's allowed in a thread of its own, it probably wont happen, because then it's not bred from abstraction on behalf of the serious thread, but merely from the idea of cereal-posting in itself, and it will hard to maintain the entertainment value.

If it's a matter of keeping the 'interesting' subject high on the list, you can always pin them for a couple of days, ensuring they get the priority you feel they deserve.

Hey damn it, this is just a more in depth and less spam laden thread that the on I did yesterday that was closed down in about 15 minutes.

I'm always trying to lighten the forums up and make them interesting with my pointless comments here and there. Some times in these forums there are too many depressing topics to look at or ones that are just plane boring for all involved but the main 2 people in the topic having there private argument some times the only way to get noticed is to umm piss some one off which sort of worked for me yesterday when I called most of Southern America dumb my experiments are still continuing you lot are my lab rats.

People in South Africa are not dumb at all in fact many of them are very intelligent but there just not given the chance to develop it into anything useful at all do to lack of higher education/money etc.

Damage how do you aspect this forum to get any where if you break up every serious topic there is posted in the forums granted I break a few of them got to now and then to keep it getting to boring but you do every topic there is and can just see you coming in with a smart little comment on the holocaust sorry if you think this just a slight dramatization of you.
