Mobious 0 Posted April 18, 2007 @Kiljoy Thanks for 1.4 I am uploading it to the IMO server now. Can you explain the param settings and how I could set them in the server.cfg? Does the 1 hour day mean every 60 minutes it goes through a 24 hour cycle in game? and for param 2 how do I set the time? 12:30? Thanks!

SlipperyJim 0 Posted April 18, 2007 @ CaptainMurphy The creator of the map asked for you to respect his wishes but instead all you have done is justify why you feel you don't have to show him common courtesy for his hard work. Mod and map thieves can always justify their actions in their own minds because nothing with stop them from doing what they really want to do. If this is how mod and map makers are treated in this community I will keep my projects private. Out of respect for the rules of this forum I shall back away from the conversation since I can see it turning ugly quickly. It is Kiljoy's baby and it is up to him really to defend his rights. @ Kiljoy Thanks for version 1.
Mabes 0 Posted April 18, 2007 I don't see what the big deal is about CaptainMurphy editing the mission and changing a few things to how he thinks they should be. It's not like he's doing that and then rereleasing it to the community and calling it his own. It's also not like the mission is copy righted or anything. Get over yourselves. Any material released to the internet is by default copyrighted, all rights reserved, to their respective owners unless there is some intellectual property violation inherent in the work itself. At least last I heard, BIS releases all rights with regards to mods and other materials generated for this game. So actually, yes, it is like it's copyrighted. Panko-31stMEU- 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Except for the simple fact that with the BIS intent for users to create their own missions... there is no legal merit with what you are saying so it's pointless to bring it up. Â Look up "fair use" and don't be a know it all. Â He's (CaptainMurphy) not claiming it's his and he is not trying to make a profit. What are you saying, that he is going to sue someone? Â He would have to register his work first of all before doing that. Â And I'm pretty sure by registering it he would want to be making money off of it, and I don't believe that would be legal. Â Good try. By the way, great mission. Â But I do agree that we should appreciate his work and not do anything against his will. Â I would not want him to stop his tireless efforts because people are getting antsy.
Dwarden 1125 Posted April 18, 2007 naming convention with info that it was modified is absolutely fine ... imagine the mess each time You join new server You download same mission again just because server owner modified mission e.g. to "no air" "no vehicles" "less air" etc. any mission maker should be aware such tweaks are gunna happen ... fair use of someone else mission is to give credits to these who made it and standard BIS EULA applies any time ... btw. i don't want see any crack discussion here ... Dr. Mojo- PhD 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Unfortunately, the missions still auto-complete. What SlipperyJim is saying is purely silly, of course, and private forking is wholly acceptable (modding the mod, as it were). People who add custom skins to Counter-Strike are no more taking credit for the mod than CaptainMurphy is taking credit for KilJoy's work by adding private tweaks to suit his own tastes. Frankly, I'll riff off your "I'm taking my toys and going home" threat and go ahead and say that any mod or mission maker that has problems with people adjusting his freely-licenced missions isn't invited to the party in the first place. The only reason I didn't proceed with our fork is because given enough nagging, Kiljoy's progressively implementing everything I bugged him about in the first place. Except for these damn missions auto-completing.
stobbsy 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Its an unwritten rule (bit like honour) amongst mission makers not to edit other peoples missions. Im sure the same is thought of reguarding addons. As a mission maker, I would be severely cheesed off at people ripping off my hard work, hours spent testing the thing, then somone coming along changing stuff and passing it off as there own or modified version of. This is the reason my maps will be only available on the dedicated server I play on and not be distributed publicly. The same can probably be said of the other 5 or 6 mission makers who play on the server. I would like to see pbos able to be encypted, so people cant rip or modify, much like the addons of VBS1

Mobious 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Humm woke up this morning and found that the Arma server had crashed with only 642 meg used.
KilJoy -SFG- 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Yes the missions do auto complete, also i think i may have found the cause a of a crash which is good, still testing but it looks like if you join the player to a null group in a local to player script that does not create a new group globaly like it should. I will have missions none auto completeing by the end of today in a small update i think. Bug only shows up when a lot are on the server hard to detect early. more soon.. CaptainMurphy 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Well, we got the Mission Complete bug last night with only 3 on the server. It worked correctly on one player but the other two got the bug. After several hours the server started to seemt o work correctly but on some of the missions it would issue the mission but not generate the AI enemy on location. On the hostage rescue it created the hostage but no soldiers. Same with WPAT, no boats, no soldiers, but the mission was not showing complete for some reason. After a restart it all started working right again.
Dr. Mojo- PhD 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Not quite. I Hopped into our public server and started up Evo as the only player on the server. WPAT would auto-complete every time. Funniest thing was, I took a bird out over the water and the boats were still spawned in. Even weirder, if I sank any of them I was credited with an enemy kill, but a negative hard target kill. B-Stard 0 Posted April 18, 2007 A lot of arma.exe errors with new 1.4 version, for me and other players
satexas69 0 Posted April 18, 2007 A lot of arma.exe errors with new 1.4 version, for me and other players Can we assume you're all using the "cracked" exe? (Read: Using an exe that's not native to the legal copy itself, but instead a downloaded cracked or no-cd aftermarket one...) My legal/normal/default one works just great. Nobody's having issues. B-Stard 0 Posted April 18, 2007 LOL We're all having original, been playing now 16hrs and 8 crashes. We're g33ks man
BroK3n 0 Posted April 18, 2007 yea ive exprienced the mission auto-complete bug in 1.4 for every single time i played that map. This after skipping through three servers. One server claimed i was "bugging" and required me to change my name and rejoin and that went ahead to kick me out. Nv going back there again lol. This auto-complete happens on whatever missions i click on, too. One mission however, a DSTR 10 points one, pointed me beyond north east sahrani to another island starting with A. Is this meant to happen? I thought only 20 points missions are located on North Sahrani. btw i liked the new mission interface. nice work. A bit of a problem there in the mission details though. It shows some scripting text thing instead. MH6s dont respawn anymore. Nice to see that only pilots can fly birds and planes and we're able to fly the sidewinder harriers at 100 points. guerilla -MCY- 0 Posted April 18, 2007 yeah i was there too with that Bastard lol jk, we crashed mostly at the same time or just some of us and woot ? choppers (MH6) don't respawn anymore ? that's a nogo if this shouldn't be a Hummer Rally. my wish would be a blackhawk, able to transport damaged vehicles back to the airbase
KilJoy -SFG- 0 Posted April 18, 2007 I just posted version 1.4a in the first post, in testing I could not get a mission to fail. Please let me know how you get on. Thanks.
